This fantastic and extremely rare Mk1 Astra is a real 1980’s throwback and has thankfully remained unmolested and free from the all too common modification trend.  Finished in China Blue (code 17L) this wonderfully preserved example presents extremely well with a bright uniform shine throughout.  Minor markings commensurate with a 1983 unrestored example are understandable and utterly inoffensive.  Worthy of mention are tiny pimples to the finish on the roof and a barely detectable shallow indentation to the front nearside lower door.  Structurally excellent, the vehicle still wears its factory panels.  All trim sections and original badges are superb, and even the supplying Vauxhall Main Dealer front and rear screen stickers and rear number plate remain in place.  A spotlessly clean engine bay and inner wings display factory plates sand stickers, ready for bonnet up show exhibiting.  Delightfully nostalgic.

INTERIOR
A clean, functional and retro Vauxhall interior preserved just as the manufacturer intended.  The original Blue Chevron Tweed cloth trim is incredible and every inch commensurate with the cars low mileage credentials.  The upholstery is clean and shows only very minimal wear, and the matching colour scheme carpets, door cards and dashboard are typically Vauxhall!  All functions and controls operate perfectly including the Phillips push button mono stereo cassette.  The dashboard and internal trim pieces are exceptional with no cracks or damage whatsoever and an almost impossible to replace rear parcel shelf is pin straight and free from speaker cut outs.  An altogether very pleasing interior, guaranteed to stir up fond memories!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This 1300S incorporates the 1297cc OHC unit with a Varajet II carburettor producing 75bhp at 5800rpm and 74.5lb.ft of torque at 3800 rpm.  Performance from this well maintained example is excellent and surprisingly spirited.  The factory optional three speed GM automatic gearbox operates superbly and offers a more relaxed driving experience with proven dependability.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five factory standard 13in steel rims remain fitted and feature original and now very rare Vauxhall plastic centre caps with the Griffin badge proudly on display.  155/80 R13 tyres have good tread but renewal due to age may be prudent if regular use is intended.  The spare wheel is housed alongside a complete tool and jack assembly within the moulded foam holder.  Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with servo assistance feature 9.3in front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers F. Twells & Sons Ltd of Lincoln on 30th August 1983, a new car sales invoice confirms a purchase price of £4,395.62 including options of automatic transmission (£378.00) and mudflaps (£21.00).    With just three former keepers, this remarkable example clearly displays the hallmarks of a cherished car.  A very comprehensive history file illustrates the exceptional upkeep this car has enjoyed with the original service booklet showing thirteen stamps and two cambelt changes, the most recent at 31,941 miles.  A further colossal collection of receipts and invoices are chronologically filed and accompanied by virtually every MOT certificate from new to fully validate the 35,429 miles covered.  Completing the history file is all the original handbooks, operating guides, radio instructions and dealership literature.

Very scarce on today’s roads, the Mk1 Astra represents a versatile, practical and tremendously nostalgic entry into modern classic car ownership.

HISTORY FILE
Registered on the 9th March 1972 this UK RHD specification Type 2 was converted to a camper by Dormobile when new and enjoyed in this capacity since.  In 2010 the owner embarked on an incredible journey to produce, at vast expense, a show stopping but useable motor caravan.  Bills in the history file amounting to tens of thousands will absolutely reassure the next custodian that no area escaped scrutiny and refurbishment.  Such was the high standard of finish that on the vehicles first outing after the long restoration a second place award at Blenheim Palace Show was won.  Also included in the history file is a wonderful four page feature in VW Camper & Commercial Magazine.  A full complement of keys are present.
