‘Loads better’ as the original sales brochure boasts for the all-new Maxi 2 in 1980 which is certainly the case with this period Russet Brown phenomenally low mileage example! The stunning Russet Brown, (Code AAE), paintwork is simply incredible having had some remedial paintwork due to storage damage and is reflective of the super low 9,989 miles covered. All factory panels are original with minor imperfections, probably as it left the production line, and the tailgate has a few dings. The door shuts and seam lines are in superb condition as is the underside of this amazing preserved example. The Kennings supplying dealer number plates and Supercover windscreen sticker remain fitted. An almost inconceivable rare survivor against unfavourable odds, very special.

The fully reclining front and rear seats are famous for transforming into a double bed with vast luggage space and the seats are upholstered in Marle knitted nylon cloth, (Code AAL), in pristine condition. The PVC door cards and deep-pile wall-to-wall carpets are spotless as is the headlining. Traditional British Leyland craftsmanship is evident with the matt walnut veneer fascia and crackle finish plastic as well as the instantly familiar BL switchgear. The steering wheel displays the prominent factory veins found only on such low mileage examples. The boot area is clean with some light damage to the side panels caused by a British Leyland typically ill-thought-out design of the parcel shelf removal! Wonderfully nostalgic and guaranteed to amaze onlookers!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Powered by the British Leyland ‘E’ Series 1748cc overhead camshaft engine fitted with a single SU HS6 carburettor producing 72bhp at 4900rpm, the mechanics are simple and cost effective to run and maintain. All stickers, plates and stampings are clearly visible and a very clean and presentable engine bay is factory original with some ageing to the slam panel. A full stainless-steel exhaust system is fitted. The optional automatic gearbox suits the car well with the unit operating perfectly having been fully reconditioned in September 2020 at a documented cost of £1,920. Splendid!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Full width L specification styled wheel covers are in immaculate order with no cracks and matching 155/80 R13 tyres show masses of tread. The servo assisted braking system with discs upfront operate well and the Hydragas suspension underwent a full refurbishment and recharge in June 2020 with Hydragas specialist invoice to evidence.

HISTORY FILE
The 1980 Maxi 2 was the final incarnation of the model before production ceased in 1981, 12 years after the Alec Issigonis design was first introduced in 1969. This very late 1981 model was supplied new by British Leyland dealer, Kennings Ltd of Colchester, on the 1st September 1981 and has covered just 9,989 miles from new! The first keeper Mr Norman Roe of Colchester, a registered Disabled driver, owned the car until 1998 covering just 5,568 miles in that time. Ownership then transferred to good friend and neighbour, Carol Thompson who put the car on the road after an extended period of storage before herself placing the car in storage with continual SORN acknowledgements from 2004 until 2012. A letter from the Secretary of the Austin Maxi Owners Club to Mr Thompson confirms this car as being only a handful of automatic Maxi 2 being produced. The vehicle was then sold to an Austin enthusiast who sold the car in February 2020. An Agreed Valuation of £6,500 has been issued.

The original Austin service booklet contains eight stamped entries with the most recent being a major service including the Hydragas system at a cost of £868.90 in June 2020 and at 8,772 miles. Absolutely all handbooks, guides and dealership literature are present along with two original sets of keys with Kennings fobs and a 1980 Maxi 2 sales brochure. Even the Kennings Leycare service card still hangs from the rear-view mirror! A separate and neatly organised file of invoices illustrates expenses. An unrepeatable opportunity to buy surely one of the best examples of British Leyland motoring history.

Such was their passion for the car, used only sparingly and in dry conditions, it was kept underneath a soft tailored cover, in a Carcoon, in a double garage! Mr and Mrs Causer’s keenness for an automatic vehicle has persuaded a very reluctant sale but one which will certainly benefit the next appreciative owner.

The original leather Porsche document wallet houses all handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as the Porsche Guarantee and Maintenance booklet containing seven Official Porsche Centre stamped entries. A file of receipts, Porsche Main Dealer invoices and MOT certificates accompanies both remote keys. The original Porsche build label remains with the service book. HISTORY FILE
A fascinating history. When Mr T Ibbott visited his local dealer, Sycamore BMW in Peterborough to order his unique specification 330iSE he was disappointed with the insistence that he would be well advised to order the 330 MSport model instead due to the options chosen. The importance placed on the chrome window surround, a N/A option on the MSport, was ignored and he left disgruntled. On discovery that he could order exactly what he wanted with no quibbling direct from a German BMW main dealer to UK specification and save a considerable sum of money on the list price too, resulted in the order being promptly placed and this example being first registered as a new car on the 5th April 2002. A specification printout confirms all the unique options and importantly, Option Code 0812, National Version Great Britain. Mr Ibbott cherished the car and on his passing ownership transferred to his wife who remained the custodian until 2015 when she eventually part-exchanged the car at Crowsons of Spalding, a main VW Dealer believing a smaller car would be more suitable. A vehicle much older than VW would normally retail as an Approved Car, the condition and mileage of just 13,625 resulted in an exception being made, and the car was soon snapped up by enthusiast, Daniel North once on the forecourt. Daniels dedication for the car was unrivalled working full-time at a prestigious franchise as a valeter, his knowledge on how to keep the car immaculate is clearly evident!

All handbooks, spare keys and MOT certificates are present along with a number of service sheets. The previous keeper has written his account of ownership since 2015.

The engine is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable burble through a period Janspeed stainless exhaust. Correct factory under bonnet identification plates are intact with the ‘Brooklands’ inscription clearly visible. Exhibitionists will be proud to lift the bonnet for spectators to marvel at. The 5-speed gearbox is light and progression through the gears is precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This 280 Capri is fitted with the factory correct and unique 7-spoke 7X15 inch alloy wheels in excellent condition. Brand new Dunlop SportBluResponse 195/50 R15 tyres have been fitted in July 2021 and the spare wheel is present but has some damage. The hydraulic dual-line servo-assisted brakes with ventilated front discs unique on the 2.8i stop the car quickly and in a straight line.

HISTORY FILE
Coveted by collectors the limited-edition Capri 280 is the most difficult ‘car you promised yourself’ as only 1038 were produced to celebrate the last of a famous line. GG11211 is build number 353 and has covered just 50,332 documented miles from new. Registered on the 31st March 1987 the car was supplied by Ford Main Dealer, John Grose of Ipswich. The original tax disc holder is still in the document wallet along with the original service book, operating guides and manuals. A large history file is neatly organised chronologically and begins with a letter dated May 1987 from John Grose Ford to the first owner, Mrs Betty Tax, apologising for incorrectly registering the car in a Mr Brown’s name! Including the incorrectly registered first keeper, this example has only has five former keepers from new. The file of invoices and service checklists date back to the very first interim service and MOT certificates date back to the first in 1990! The previous owner, Mr Mead, purchased the car in 2006 and in 2010 he commissioned respected professionals, Restore-A-Ford to undertake a full restoration at significant expense, the invoices for which are also in the history file. Photos to prove how sound and original the car was prior to any work exist and the owners quest for perfection created a double edged sword, a visually stunning car that he was too precious to drive anywhere. The decision to sell after 15 years was a difficult one but now presents a new owner with a fantastic opportunity.

EXTERIOR
Ford Motor Company’s ‘New Edge’ design language began with the original Ka as the first production Ford to adopt the radical exterior styling mostly recognised with its use of intersecting arcs and crisp lines. This exceptional Ka has covered just 7,141 miles from new and is finished in factory original Colorado Red, (Code M0). The bodywork and paint finish are simply outstanding with no markings worthy of mention. Cosseted by husband and wife from new, this garaged Ka has none of the common bodywork issues often found and the amazing underside still displays factory labels, long lost on most examples. All trim sections and the Torque Grey bumpers are perfect and Ford main dealer number plates and rear screen sticker are fitted. Far superior to the usual offerings and without question, one of the best low mileage cars in existence.

INTERIOR
The interior of this cossetted example is beautifully clean and free from wear. The original Tic Toc fabric upholstery in Plum colour scheme, (Code PT), is spotless with no wear or damage to the fabric whatsoever. The carpets are pristine having been protected from new by Ford floor mats and the headlining is perfect. The steering wheel and gear knob display a total lack of wear due to the ultra-low mileage and ownership. The funky blob style fascia and incorporated switchgear is as new and all functions operate seamlessly including the original Model 2050 stereo cassette. Likewise, the spotless load space boasts an unmarked carpet underneath which the boot floor is as new. Clean, fresh and totally unspoilt.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The dependable and frugal 1.3 Duratec four-cylinder engine as fitted to all non-sporting Ka’s produces a power output of 70bhp and 106Nm of torque to achieve a top speed of 104mph and 0-60 in 14.1 seconds. The engine is quiet and performs faultlessly and all fluids are clean. The pristine engine bay features all factory stickers, plates, PDI markings and even fragile paper labels fully intact. The five-speed gearbox is light, precise and effortless to use with a perfectly comfortable motorway cruising manner.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Ka seven-spoke wheel trims in perfect condition remain fitted to 5x13in steel wheels and brand-new premium brand Firestone Multihawk 2 tyres have been fitted in July 2021 to replace the originals. The tyre fitted to the spare wheel has never been used. Diagonally split dual line brakes with Anti-Lock assistance (ABS) bring the car up straight and steady.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 31st July 2006 by Main Dealer, Evans Halshaw Ford of Bedford, the car was purchased by Mr Dobinson who used the vehicle sparingly in retirement and kept the car garaged at all times when not in use. In 2015 following his passing, ownership transferred to Mr Dobinson’s wife with whom the car has remained with since. Having now covered just 7,141 miles from new, the condition of this time warp Ka is a credit to them both. The original Ford zip wallet contains the handbooks, guides and radio booklet as well as the service booklet containing 12 stamped entries, 11 of which are from the supplying Ford main dealer, Evans Halshaw. Every year without fail from new to 2017 the car was taken to Ford for servicing and a further independent service was carried out at 7,022 miles with corresponding stamped entry and invoice. A history folder contains service and maintenance invoices from Evans Halshaw as well as MOT history records to fully verify the ultra-low mileage. Completing the history file is an original Ka sales brochure along with two original Ford keys with Evans Halshaw fobs.

Debate over the pronunciation of the name Ka has continued since launch and whether it is to be said with a long or short “a”, or with the letters pronounced separately. Even Ford’s confused press office has used all three but the official Ford stance is with a short “a”! Whichever way you may wish to say it, the first examples are now 25 years old and the humble Ford Ka represents a superb value entry into classic car ownership, even more so with this incredible preserved example with just 7,141 miles from new! Be quick before too many people catch on!

EXTERIOR
In the late 1960’s Vauxhall were keen to shout about their new Space Curve Design which was a feature of this 1967 Victor De Luxe finished in Oyster Grey. This amazing survivor is an unrestored example boasting largely factory paint credentials and the panels are straight boasting linear even shut lines. The paintwork has a lovely polished shine which has drawn much admiration at classic car shows and Vauxhall Victor Owners Club events for decades! The previous retired owner since 2013 has lavished much care and attention to preserve this example which does include some obvious touched in marks applied with the intention of preserving the car. The factory chrome shines beautifully with some age-related marks and the Griffin front wing emblems, rear wing Victor 101 badges and De Luxe boot plaque are all present. The underside has been protected and has survived remarkably thanks to conscientious owners who knew the fate of those cars that had not been cared for! A delightful classic Vauxhall from a bygone era and proven show circuit success!

INTERIOR
The interior of this wonderful car is simply remarkable and remains in original condition. The Ambla upholstery in Casino Red has been preserved in amazing condition with no rips or tears whatsoever and the luscious red retains full deep colour. The matching door cards are in superb order as are the deep pile carpets and near perfect headlining. The brilliantly period and original fascia is overflowing with 1960’s nostalgia including the huge thin rimmed steering wheel with horn ring and the band speedometer. Unique to the De Luxe model was the walnut veneer panel trim which has some minor hairline cracks. The colossal luggage area still has the original black vinyl floor mat over the rock-solid boot floor and the vertically mounted spare wheel is present. Hugely nostalgic for anyone who experienced these cars when they were new and a wonderful insight for all to see just how simplistic motoring used to be!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The factory fitted 1595cc OHV four-cylinder engine with down-draught carburettor produces 76bhp at 4800rpm and 128Nm torque at 2600rpm. The crisp engine sings into life effortlessly and the driving experience is delightfully charming especially with the 3-speed all synchromesh column mounted gear selector, which once familiarised is very easy to use. With factory plates and stickers still intact, the engine bay is clean and has been hand painted in areas for protection. Hugely simple to maintain and with excellent parts availability, thanks partly to a very active club scene, this Victor is a perfect family classic.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original steel wheels have been painted in body colour and still wear the stainless-steel full wheel covers which were again unique to the De Luxe model. The wheel covers are fully intact and in excellent condition and the matching premium brand Firestone 155/80 R13 tyres have plenty of tread. The rather antiquated 9in drum brakes all round with hydraulic service ‘umbrella’ handbrake is factory standard and the system is well maintained and in good working order.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers, K.J. Motors Ltd of Bromley, on the 8th March 1967, this superb example has covered just 42,424 verified miles with four traceable owners from new. The history file begins with the new car sales invoice and loan agreement made out to first owner, Mr Dyer, who paid £743.12 and also included is the original loan letter from United Dominions Trust (Commercial) Ltd. The first issue buff log book has been kept and also records this information accurately. Remarkably, Mr Dyer owned the car for over 20 years until in 1988 it was sold to the second keeper, Mr Hughes. Mr Hughes also owned the car for almost 20 years and in the 1990’s began showing the car at classic car shows and Vauxhall Victor Owners Club events, the car being known to them ever since. In 2009 Mr Maley became the third owner and continued to show the car at club events, as did the fourth and final owner, Mr Osborn, who purchased the car in 2013. Now in his senior years, Mr Osborn was still using the car for shows as recently as summer 2021 but has now made the difficult decision to sell and allow the next owner to enjoy.

The history file is quite incredible with every MOT certificate carried out since the very first in 1970! There is also a handwritten mileage log for each of the cars 54 years including the mileage covered by each owner! The original owner’s handbook is present along with the large file of maintenance and service invoices. There is a display board which mounts on the centre console and holds trophies and awards including 1st and 2nd place at Vauxhall Victors Owners Clubs judging events, the first place being awarded at Billing in 2016. Despite MOT exemption for many years, the previous owners have still taken the car for the MOT each year, a further assurance of dedicated ownership, and the next owner will certainly benefit from this well cared for Vauxhall Victor who will hopefully continue to show the car.
