Full Description

A sublime supercharged Jaguar XJR with only 42,319 miles and 14 service stamps.

Zinc coated body structure, side impact bars, longitudinal crumple zones, auto twin-halogen headlamps, electric heated door mirrors, driver and front passenger air bags, stability and traction control, driver door switch pack, automatic climate control, LCD display, trip computer, analogue clock, spectacle pouch, engine immobiliser, factory fitted alarm, remote central locking, eight speaker sound system. Factory Options; Electric tilt/slide sunroof, cruise control, 12-way electric memory seats with electric steering column, rear sunblind, tool kit, carpet mats, detachable towbar and electrics, full size spare wheel.

The XJR is certainly one of the most charismatic and exciting cars and this prime example is finished in stunning cost optional Sapphire Blue, (Code JHE). A uniform deep gloss shine is immediately evident with only a few touched in marks, most noteworthy is one to the rear lower bumper. The unique wire-mesh grille and window and screen surrounds in black give hint to the power and all other trim, chrome and light lenses are in excellent condition with factory fitted glass retaining all stickers and etchings. There is a tiny chip to the very top of the front screen. Jaguar main dealer number plates remain fitted and the underside is clean. Graceful, sleek and with a low-slung stance, this car simply exudes sporting elegance.

A sumptuous and luxurious interior is thoroughly commensurate with the low mileage this performance saloon has covered. The beautiful upholstery is trimmed in premium Oatmeal Leather Hide and Warm Charcoal, (Code AGD), and is virtually unmarked. Distinguishing features are the XJR’s wood and leather steering wheel with wooden gearknob and wooden veneers in Birdseye Maple, all perfect. The driver has no shortage of equipment and safety features all of which work perfectly, including the climate control. The headlining is perfect with no sagging and the deep pile carpeting is clean and retains its fullness due to carpet mats fitted from new. There is a small mark to the ‘J’ gate decal. All factory options function including the electric sunroof and cruise control. Sheer automotive indulgence with classic pedigree.

The source of the XJR’s dynamic versatility is the 4.0 litre AJ-V8 32-valve quad overhead cam engine powered by an intercooled supercharger boosting output to 370bhp. This is a 27% increase over the conventionally aspirated engine and enough to reach 60mph in 5.3 awe-inspiring seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. The engine bay is spotlessly clean with all factory plates and stickers present. The optional tool storage compartment is complete and still includes bulbs and fuses. A dedicated electronic five-speed automatic transmission, uprated for strength is refined and responsive. The perfect combination.

At the time the XJR had the largest wheels and lowest profile tyres ever seen on a production Jaguar saloon and all four Penta alloy wheels are immaculate with crystal clear growler badges. Premium Michelin Pilot tyres with ample grip are fitted. Powerful large ventilated discs front and rear have anti-lock braking and combined with stability control and traction control offer safe braking, stability and handling. The XJR is also fitted with Supersport suspension combined with CATS – electronically controlled electric dampers with are unyieldingly firm under stress yet smooth and comfortable under normal driving conditions.

This tremendous Jaguar XJR was supplied new on the 18th March 1998 by Paramount Jaguar Swansea to Mr Gardener. The new car invoice reveals a whopping price paid of £55,016 with a part exchange allowance of £7,500 for the new owners BMW 635CSi Highline! Owned by Mr Gardener for next 15 years, the car has enjoyed expert main dealer servicing up to 2011 and 31,193 miles with Jaguar Specialists since. A total of 14 service entries are documented, the last being in July 2021 at 41,654. An A4 file of neatly filed invoices catalogues expenditure and helps reveal the care bestowed on this low mileage car. Recent works include replacement of coil springs, new braking components and auxiliary belts and supercharger belts. All handbooks, fully stamped service book and spare keys still on Paramount leather key fobs are present. A cherished XJR number included in the sale.
The ultimate V8 Jaguar XJ when new and one of the few supercharged performance saloons with low miles and documented histories. Becoming very difficult to find.
