Porsche 928 GTS

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A formidable and highly coveted Porsche 928 GTS with just 46,238 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
Produced from 1978 to 1995, the Porsche 928 was initially developed as a replacement for the quirky and sometimes difficult to drive 911. However, the characteristics of this V8 Gran Turismo, Porsche’s first production V8 model, were somewhat different to the 911 and direct replacement did not come to fruition. Porsche’s design and development efforts paid off during the 1978 European Car of the Year, where the 928 won ahead of the BMW 7-Series and the Ford Granada. The final and arguably the most coveted 928 models was the GTS as presented here.

EQUIPMENT
2 door 2+2 coupe, aluminium front wings, doors and bonnet, front and rear deformable polyurethane body panels, integral front spoiler, rear boot spoiler, retractable halogen headlamps, front and rear deformation zones, driver’s airbag, heated windscreen washers, high pressure headlamp washers, fibre optic instrument panel, air conditioning with climate control, cruise control, electric adjust to front seats, driver’s memory seat, heated front seats. Factory options; Electric sliding steel sunroof.

EXTERIOR
This late and very desirable 928 GTS is finished in stunning Slate Grey Metallic, (Code L23F), boasting a beautiful deep shine and high polished finish. All panels and large polyurethane trim sections are in excellent order and the factory glass remains with all rubbers and lights in prime order. There is a very small faint paint blemish around the nearside door mirror and another almost undetectable paint imperfection below the nearside rear window. An epic muscular Porsche Gran Turismo.

INTERIOR
The unique interior of the 928, a masterpiece from the Porsche Design Studio, is both functional and wonderfully elegant. The sculptured, anatomically correct seats are trimmed in the original hand-stitched draped leather in light grey, (Code GZ). The upholstery is spotlessly clean and in excellent order with no undue wear or crazing to the hide. The matching colour scheme carpets have been protected from new by expensive Porsche tailored over mats. The fibre optic instrument panel has all elements working perfectly with just some light crazing to the instrument backing. The rear seats fold completely flat to create a spacious luggage area and the pristine boot space housing the original space saver spare wheel with Vredstein tyre and factory jack in the original sheath. Factory build stickers to the driver’s door shut and the factory options code sticker to the boot floor remain, essential for originality seekers. The ultimate GT interior, built to cruise the Riviera!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The powerful heart of the 928GTS is a 5.4 litre, V8 engine. This quad-cam 32v alloy engine produces 350bhp at 5700rpm and maximum torque 500Nm at just 4250rpm. An intoxicating engine soundtrack invokes you as you achieve 0-60mph in just 5.7 seconds and a possible top speed of 170mph, as quoted in the original Porsche marketing literature. Porsche originality aficionados will delight at the clean engine bay displaying all factory plates, stickers and even the original Shell Fuel and Lubrication sticker! Effortless cruising is offered by the 4-speed automatic transmission which operates perfectly with Porsche Dynamic kickdown.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Forged alloy ‘Cup Design’ wheels of size 7.5J x 17 front and 9J x 17 rear are in excellent condition with original Porsche centre caps and only very light markings to the outer rims. Porsche 550 Spyder Replica

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A Porsche 550 Spyder Martin & Walker replica professionally built

HISTORY
The limited number Porsche 550 Spyder was introduced at the 1953 Paris Auto Show and was quickly recognised wherever it appeared due to outstanding race success.  It dominated the US and European championship circuit even against more powerful cars not even in its class and was the race choice of privateers earning a reputation as the Giant Killer.  The beauty of the 550 was that it could be driven to the track, raced and then driven home, which showed the flexibility of being both a road and track car.  Perhaps the most famous Porsche 550 built was James Dean’s “Little Bastard” which Dean fatally crashed into Donald Turnupseed’s 1950 Ford Custom on the 30th September 1955.  Original examples rarely appear on the market and always make headline prices when they do.

EQUIPMENT
GRP bodyshell, tubular steel chassis with steel rear bulkhead, De Dion axle located with four trailing arms and a Panhard rod, adjustable coilspring damper units, aluminium fuel tank, aluminium floor, perspex wind deflector, headrest fairing, Spyder and Porsche emblems, bonnet catches, wing mirror, wooden Nardi steering wheel, Willans seatbelts, passenger grab handle, passenger foot brace, push button start, rev counter and combined fuel/temperature gauge, dash mounted rear view mirror, kill switch, moulded door pockets, horn, tonneau cover.

EXTERIOR
Finished in vibrant period Porsche Blue there is absolutely no hiding in this incredible machine.  The sleek low slung appearance is gorgeous at any angle drawing much admiration from onlookers who marvel over the flowing yet purposeful lines.  The light weight bodyshell is free from stress fractures and has a deep gloss coat.  The gumballs positioned front and rear and on the doors just like the originals are blank.  The gold Porsche and Spyder lettering reveals the heritage and the stainless rear grilles and headrest faring leave no doubt of the fun lying ahead.  A must.

INTERIOR
Once in situ the Speedster style seats trimmed in black vinyl offer amazing support and looking over the wooden Nardi steering to the replica instrument set will start the pulse racing.  Securely fastened by the Willans racing seatbelts the driving position is near perfect and lack of creature comforts is soon forgotten once the starter button is pressed!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Rear mounted and running a VW Type 4 engine displacing 2 litres built by Microgiant this power plant had been on the rolling road at BD Engineering and produces 110bhp and 122lbft of torque.  Sucking fuel through twin 40 Delorto carbs and barking through a custom stainless steel exhaust built by Aldens the sound is like no other!  A 4-speed rebuilt gearbox is controlled by an expensive American Janmar Shifter kit to utilise the power.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Authentic Porsche 550 reproduction steel wheels are shod in quality Yokohama A539 195/65 R15 tyres. Front discs and rear drums on a dual circuit with a master cylinder provide ample stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Martin and Walker offer a Spyder Replica both as kit for self-assembly or as turnkey vehicle individually built to customer’s specifications. The Technic 550 Spyder as witnessed here is a true mid-engine replica of the original car and has been produced by M&W since 1987.  This example is number six of a run of 11 built by highly respected Paul Foreman in Kent.  Correctly registered as an historic vehicle on the registration document it passed to its current owner, John Litherland from Paul in 2007.  Known as Sacrebleu and even supplied with matching clothing this example has been enjoyed for local rallies and European trips to Le Mans and to Spa in Belgium.  Sacrebleu is reluctantly offered for sale due the owner’s arthritis.  A collection of invoices and old MOT certificates breaks down the 3,544 miles since being built.  A real motoring icon guaranteed to excite the fun loving petrol head or the 1950’s appreciating classic sports car fan.
