A unique special edition Crusader is one of the final incarnations of Ford’s iconic Cortina MkV, sometimes known as the Cortina 80 being the facelift version of the MKIV. Finished in striking Caribbean Blue, (Code J2) the paintwork is glossy with the smart twin pinstripe running the whole length of the car and across the centre panel of the bonnet adding a touch of style. The bonnet has two light chalking marks and a small section of the wheel arch line to the N/S/F paint has worn thin through over polishing. The car displays fabulous originality with Ford branded halogen headlamps crystal clear and dealer supplied rear number plate. The wheel arch apertures and door shuts are beautifully clean thanks to fair weather use and classic car show exhibiting. A rare survivor.

INTERIOR
A factory fresh 1980’s Ford interior, unique, refined and well specified. The dark Durham and light Velour plush fabric trimmed reclining two-tone seats match the colour keyed thick pile carpet normally reserved for Ghia models only. Carpeted lower sections on the doors raise to a light crushed velour topped by unmarked but slighted faded wood veneer door cappings adding luxury to this impressive livery. With such low mileage covered all switchgear and gauges function correctly and the dashboard wood effect facia is perfect. The four-spoke steering wheel displays prominent veins and the pedal rubbers are unworn. The original push button radio has been disconnected and the boot area remains unused with jack and wheel brace in situ. Impeccable pedigree.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Ford’s time tested and trustworthy 1600 OHC unit with single variable venturi carburettor has power output of 73bhp a top speed of 93mph and a 0-60 time of 13.0 seconds. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard sports road wheels have been repainted and the bright embellishers remain correctly attached. New Uniroyal Rain Expert 165/80R13 tyres have been fitted but the factory supplied from new Michelin XZX items are supplied with the car. The spare wheel remains unused and immaculate with the Michelin tyre. Hydraulic dual line brakes with servo assistance and uprated callipers offer ample stopping power and complete assurance.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealers, Norman Reeves Motors Ltd and first registered on the 5th January 1983. The very last Cortina made was a Silver Crusader 1.6 Saloon on the 22nd July 1982 which remains in the Ford Heritage Centre in Dagenham. Both Fords own heritage car and this example share the same ‘CM’ chassis prefix proving the July 82 factory build and therefore being one of the last cars to roll off the factory line! Fords own car was actually registered on the 14th December 1982 and before this car despite being the last one made. The first owner, a Mrs Janet Reeves, reputedly a family member of the Dealership group, who disliked the jellymould appearance of the new Ford Sierra, opted for the Cortina. It has since remained enthusiast owned with just four former keepers and membership to the Ford Cortina Owners Club. The previous owner Mr Manning has collated a mass of Mk5 Cortina adverts in the quest to acquire one of the best and last available and this car is a credit to his efforts. A collection of old MOT certificates, all the vehicle handbooks including the service book and even a new car sales brochure makes this car a prized Cortina for the collector.

EXTERIOR
To state that this astonishing Mk1 1600XL won the Concours Mk1 trophy at the Capri National Day in May 2016 offers an insight to just how special this car is. Finished in its original shade of Light Grey (code D), Ford produced the colour for just six months from August 1971, and this is the only one known to the Capri Mk1 Owners Club. The paintwork is exceptional having been subject to a documented restoration including a fully detailed and painted underside, even down to zinc plated nuts, bolts and fixings. A beautifully smooth and polished shine is worthy of its praise from Concours Judges and original trim pieces such as the weather strips, rubbers and brightwork have taken preference over inferior aftermarket replacements. Incredibly, this example still wears its factory panels including the front wings displaying the unique upturn to the wheelarch edge as well as the original rear arches with factory welds visible. Custom Plan XL Pack specific features such as the irreplaceable fluted tailpipe trim and the twin reversing lamps below bumper have been retained for absolute accuracy. Unconditionally outstanding and one of the best existing examples.

INTERIOR
The interior of this award winning example is truly fascinating not only in condition but more so that it is completely original! The factory super grade vinyl seat coverings are amazingly well preserved with no damage or visible wear and the loop pile carpeting has been protected superbly. The dashboard and fascia are remarkable with no cracking or fading and the steering wheel still features the often deteriorated or removed leather covering. The boot area houses the original jack and complete Ford toolkit, and factory markings and the original delicate plastic rear lens covers remain undamaged. Blue oval royalty.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The standard 1600cc Crossflow engine offers modern traffic competing capabilities with a top speed of 96mph and 0-60 in 14 seconds. The correct oil fitted shock absorbers and strut tops also feature along with a genuine original Ford exhaust. A further unique item is the long and narrow Lincon battery sited on the left side of the engine compartment, specific to the auto models only whereby a revised battery tray design was required. The factory optional automatic transmission performs exactly as it should.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The optional sports road wheels remain in the correct silver with black infils. This Capri was manufactured with Goodyear radial tyres and the previous fastidious keeper with accuracy in mind has ensured that only the same brand should be fitted. The servo assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums bring the car up straight and true.

The original Michelin XZX 165 SR13 tyres including the spare are still fitted to further add to the unspoilt appeal. However, subtle suggestions towards the robust commercial vehicle range are in the form of wipe clean vinyl door cards and sparse equipment levels to include a coin box in place of the digital clock and an analogue clock instead of the tachometer. This Special Edition model featured comforts such as Chequers cloth trim (code 2P), grey velour carpeting and a Ford Keycode 2015 radio cassette. The upholstery is pristine with no wear at all and the carpets, roof lining and switchgear are clean. The dashboard has no cracks and the vinyl door cards have suffered slight shrinking. A few tiny holes remain from the optional Ford Cellular phone and CB system. A truly spectacular time warp interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the 1.8 turbo diesel version developing 74bhp at 4500rpm this vehicle is best described as a workhorse! The engine bay is remarkable with Ford labels still attached to cables, original identification plates and stickers and even factory wax! A full service and cam-belt change has been carried out by renown specialists Harvey Gibbs at Supreme Car Services. The 5-speed gearbox is light and easy to use and the clutch is positive.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 14 X 5½J steel wheels are immaculate and still have the small black Ford centre caps and wheel nut covers fitted. Ford factory weights remain on the wheels and the Firestone CV2000 185 R14C tyres have masses of tread remaining. As the tyres have been on the car from new it is advised if regular use is intended to remove, keep and replace with a new set. Diagonally split dual-line servo assisted brakes feature a load apportioning valve along with 9.5” ventilated front discs and 10” rear drums to bring the vehicle up safely.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 24th November 1993 by Main Dealers, Premier Ford in Newport Isle of Wight, this fabulous example would have been one of the very last to roll off the production line. Purchased by a Mr Derek Hatcher as a retirement gift but with clearly little use it has covered a mere 8,042 miles from new. Inspection will simply amaze and the claim of cossetted ownership is clearly upheld amongst the three former keepers. The history file contains the dealer supplied plastic A5 wallet with the original P100 handbook, operating guides, point of sale literature and even the first 1500 mile service voucher! A collection of MOT certificates completes the history file. One for the Ford collector who has almost everything!

EXTERIOR
This excellent RS2000 finished in vibrant Venetian Red boasts a marvellous deep shine and uniform finish. This example has avoided the common modification and lowering tendencies and remains exactly as Ford intended. Minor paintwork imperfections are notable under scrutiny but certainly do not spoil the appeal. Worthy of mention are a small amount of paint lift to the lower nearside door which has not penetrated the original door skin. All trim sections, RS decals and badges remain intact and are in good order. Unique Custom features such as the Bronze tinted glass and black back panel remain. A sunroof has been neatly installed from new and security deadlocks to the doors. The boot floor is very clean with factory markings visible, and the underside is free from excess application of underseal to allow an honest inspection. A very usable and attractive RS2000, one for the avid blue oval enthusiast wanting to exploit maximum enjoyment from classic Ford ownership.

INTERIOR
The interior of this example has remained absolutely original in every respect. The Black fabric (code A8) to the Recaro ‘fishnet’ front seats and rear bench still wear the original coverings which will require a re-trim for those seeking perfection. This task thankfully can be undertaken by renowned and trusted experts, Aldridge Trimming Ltd to factory specification. The fascia and undamaged padded dash top houses fully functional gauges and rocker switches and the original leather bound three spoke steering is undamaged. The heater fan is functional on both speed settings but the clock has stopped. The cut pile carpets and fully trimmed door panels are in excellent condition and Ford labels can still be seen on the seat belts. The headlining is perfect. A classic Ford interior displaying wonderful originality.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1993cc SOHC engine remains fitted to this matching numbers vehicle with standard features such as the Ford plastic air box cover. The engine bay is clean and factory metal data plates and the black plastic bulkhead cover are still present. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are more than respectable, even for modern standards. The standard 4 speed transmission remains fitted and is light and exact.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS alloy road wheels have just been refurbished to perfect standard with matching quality Kumho 185/60 R13 tyres showing plenty of tread. The spare alloy wheel is housed in the boot area alongside the original jack. Vacuum servo assisted front disc brakes with rear drums brakes offer fair braking but fall short of modern standards.
