EXTERIOR
This delightful, early and unmolested UK Mazda MX-5 is finished in rare Crystal White, (Code U C), which looks fantastic contrasting against the black hood and boasts brilliant uniform shine. Only very minor age-related chips and touched in markings can be seen upon scrutiny, not detracting from the overall excellent appearance. A welcome absence of excess applied underseal allows easy inspection of the very good underside condition and all factory stickers remain affixed to the door apertures. All trim, exterior rubbers, glass, lights and badges are in brilliant order, even down to the front nearside Mazda bumper sticker, an item lost on many examples. Supplying Mazda Main Dealer number plates front and rear remain fitted and Mazda MX5 Owners Club stickers are proudly attached to the front screen. The black canvas hood is immaculate with the fully intact factory fitted Perspex rear screen. An instant success from Mazda upon UK launch in 1990, this 1990 built example is one of the very first and will delight the collector and enthusiast alike.

INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior remains precisely as Mazda intended, and everything is co-ordinated perfectly. The high-backed seats offer great comfort and support, and show virtually no aging to the fabric. The seat structure including the bolsters are firm and retain correct shape. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal-clear instruments that function precisely as does the factory fitted Clarion CRH60 radio cassette. The original leather trimmed steering wheel with white stitching is fully intact and just a very small seam split to the driver’s door inner handle is worthy of mention. The tonneau cover and original wheel brace, jack and toolkit are all present. Even the factory supplied touch up paint tins have been kept and the original sticker remains attached to the boot carpet! The no frills driver focused concept perfected by Mazda is simply wonderful, and this example upholds that notion exactly.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a low mileage and unspoilt Mk1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight. The lightweight 1.6 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. With 114bhp available, a top speed of 121mph and 0-60mph time of 8.7 seconds is achieved. A Mazda MX5 Owners Club and specialist recommended stainless steel exhaust rear section has been fitted and it sounds subtle yet superb! The engine bay is very clean with all factory plates and stickers intact, including the often-lost bonnet underside stickers. Even factory wax has been preserved! The truly delightful close ratio five speed gearbox provides short and positive gear changes. Huge grin motoring guaranteed!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This unmodified example retains its factory fitted 14 x 5.5j alloy wheels and correct Mazda centre caps, affectionately known as the ‘Daisy’ style. The wheels are in excellent order with only a few faint markings to the outer edge, barely visible. Premium brand Michelin 185/60R14 tyres fitted show ample tread remaining. The space saver spare tyre is the factory supplied Bridgestone which has the coloured banding still visible. Ventilated front and solid rear discs install maximum braking confidence.

HISTORY FILE
Purchased new by Mr Stephen Dawes on the 28th May 1997 through Mazda UK Ltd on the Special Forces programme, the car was subsequently driven to Belgium where it had its 600 mile inspection at Mazda Main Dealers, Garage Aldo.  An accompanying invoice and service stamp act as verification.  Both Mr Dawes and the car returned to the UK just four months later whereby the owner continued his international military career having little time to enjoy the Mazda.  Despite this, carefully and chronologically filed documentation reveals virtually every MOT from the first in 2000, when the car was three years old to the latest advisory free certificate, enabling the mileage to be warranted.  Sold in 2016 to his brother, Mr Richard Dawes, this car has only ever had two family owners.  A major service was carried out in September 2016 and all documentation, handbooks and a new car sales brochure remain.  A full spare set of keys remain unopened in a polythene bag with leather Mazda key fobs.

Virtually impossible to find in such original, low mileage and unmolested condition, this car is sure to delight the fanatical collector and is perfectly suited to an enthusiast wanting to experience fun and reliable classic motoring, just as Mazda intended when new 20 years ago!
