The Limited-Edition Mazda MX-5 Berkeley was introduced right at the very end of the production of the original Mk1 or NA Series of MX-5 and prior to the launch of the Mk2/NB Series. Available to the UK market exclusively and with just 400 limited edition cars produced, the model was a marketing collaboration with The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, London. All cars were finished in Sparkle Green metallic paint and the list price was £17,600 with little chance of a discount! Indeed, Mazda ran a competition whereby a weekend for two to stay at the famous Central London hotel could be won and the marketing literature featured a tear off competition entry slip to be posted off by eager entrants!

The Sparkle Green metallic paint, (Code 11R), boasts first paint credentials and presents in flawless condition with a stunning deep shine throughout. All bodywork panels are arrow straight and the underside displays an untouched factory finish with PDI dabs intact and even fragile paper labels to the suspension components, inner wheel hubs and lower bumper, long lost on most examples! Absolutely all Berkeley Limited Edition equipment is present and correct with the boot rack even still wearing the maximum load caution sticker! The original hood is as new and further total originality is found in the factory etched glass and supplying Mazda main dealer number plates. Quite probably the best remaining of the original 400 produced, in fact of any Mk1 Mazda MX5!

INTERIOR
Standard and unique to the Berkeley Limited Edition is the Black and light Grey leather seat facings with matching light Grey door panels with black top stitching, (Code NA3). Commensurate with the almost incomprehensibly low 1,905 miles covered, the interior can justifiably be described as perfect or as new. Again, absolutely all Berkeley Limited Edition interior features are present including the numbered plaque (346/400), Momo leather steering wheel and carpet mat set in amazing order. The dashboard wears the original dark burr wood trim and further special features such as the suspension brace bar and stainless steel scuff plates are immaculate. Even paper stickers to the seat belt buckles have been left intact! Simply astonishing in every respect.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Welcome to the experience of driving a virtually new Mazda Mk1 MX-5. The Berkeley Edition was based on the 1.8i model and the lightweight 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. The engine bay is spotlessly clean with factory plates, panel stamps, PDI dabs and stickers all present and undamaged. Even the gold anodised engine components have a deep lustre. The phenomenal close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes. Brilliant!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This exceptional Mazda has factory fitted 15” alloy wheels which are unrestored and in near perfect order with a minuscule touched in scratch to one rim and original Mazda centre caps as new. To the delight of those seeking total originality, the factory fitted Dunlop SP Sport 2000 195/50 R15 tyres remains fitted and the temporary spare tyre remains unused. The servo assisted braking system is factory standard and with just 1,905 miles usage the discs and callipers are super clean.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Mazda Main Dealer, John Wilkins Cars of Cheltenham, the car was registered on the 30th April 1998 making it one of the last Mk1 or NA Series MX-5’s. The first keeper was a Mr Rackley who owned the car for 17 months at which point the second owner, Mr Simms, purchased the car. Mr Simms was an avid MX-5 enthusiast who recognised the importance of this very special car and knew that preserving such a low mileage example was going to result in a true modern classic in years to come, and of course he was absolutely correct! The car was then placed in a substantial collection by KGF Classic Cars and is only being made available due to an expanding Fast Ford fleet and limited space! It has not had its first MOT but of course KGF Classic Cars will undertake this should the next owner wish.

A separate history folder contains Mazda main dealer service checklist and invoice for the previous service as well as the original blue V5 document. There are three Mazda keys and an original Mazda MX-5 Berkeley Limited Edition sales brochure. Preserved to the highest original order and as close to a new MK1 MX-5 as you are ever likely to find, truly outstanding and for the most discerning collector.

HISTORY FILE
This amazing example was registered new by Mazda Main Dealers, Robinsons Garage Ltd of Leicester, on the 17th September 1999. The first owner, Mrs Nicola Heatherley, owned the car for over 20 years until in 2020 she advertised the car for sale. Mr Michael Chawner, a Mazda MX-5 Owners Club member and avid enthusiast contacted her and promptly bought the car. With his vast knowledge of these iconic cars, he knew when he had found a good one! In January 2021 Mr Chawner saw a low mileage Mazda Mk1 MX-5 1.8iS being advertised here at KGF Classic Cars and knew straight away it was the exact model and colour he had coveted for years and so had to have it. The difficult decision to part with this Mk2 example was sweetened by the arrival of his Mk1 which became his tenth MX-5!

The history file consists of absolutely all handbooks, manuals and dealership point of sale literature along with three sets of keys neatly contained in the black leather Mazda wallet. The original service booklet is present and the most recent service entry was in 2020 at 18,595 miles and a documented cambelt and water pump change was carried out at same time. A further folder containing invoices and MOT certificates further document the care and attention this example has enjoyed through its life with just two owners and the 19,571 miles covered. Completing the history file is an original Mazda MX5 range brochure and price list. It is virtually impossible to find such an original, low mileage and low owner MX-5, and KGF Classic Cars are delighted to be able to present this stunning example ready for a new lucky custodian.
