This exceptional and original Mazda MX-5 finished in British Racing Green, (Code HU), looks incredible thanks to a mere 24,664 miles covered with two fastidious owners. The condition of this top of the range MX-5iS model is a credit to its former keepers who clearly cherished their pride and joy. The factory panels are undamaged and all trim sections are virtually as new. Meticulous scrutiny will reveal some miniscule dings to the lower bonnet edge caused from pushing the bonnet closed. The underside shows only factory underseal to allow easy inspection of the perfect structure and superb sills. The original hood is as new and the previous conscientious owner even fitted a rear screen protector to keep the plastic clear and scratch free when the roof is folded. All glass is factory etched fitment and completes this totally unspoilt exterior. The epitome of a modern classic sports car, preserved to the highest order.
INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth trim, (Code NA3), this interior of top specification 1.8iS model features creature comforts such as power windows, electric outer mirrors and leather steering wheel as standard. The spotless high-backed seats have adjustable integral headrests offering maximum comfort and support and the unique to this model, stainless steel scuff plates and stainless-steel door speaker trim. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal clear instruments that function precisely and retain a new car feel. Genuine Mazda carpet mats remain in place with even a second set of rubber over mats to protect the immaculate black carpeting. An expensive tailored full tonneau is just one of many welcome accessories purchased the previous enthusiast owner.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a well maintained and cared for Mk1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight, especially in the most powerful 130bhp version. The lightweight 1.8 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. A top speed of 123mph and 0-60mph in 8.6 seconds is quoted. The engine bay is beautifully clean with factory plates, panel stamps and stickers all present and undamaged. The phenomenal close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes. Brilliant!
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This exceptional Mazda has factory fitted 14 x 6.0 JJ alloy wheels which are in superb order with only very faint marking to the outer rims, barely notable. MX-5 Owners Club recommended Toyo 195/55 R14 tyres with excellent tread remaining are fitted all-round and the temporary spare tyre remains unused. Standard only on the 1.8iS is 4-wheel ABS with 255mm ventilated discs at the front and solid 251mm at the back for ultimate in ride stability and steering control under hard braking.
HISTORY FILE
An immense history file awaits the lucky new owner of this low mileage two owner cherished MX-5. Supplied new by Mazda Main Dealer, Bel Royal Motors Ltd in Jersey, the car was registered on the 29th September 1997 to the first owner, Mrs Day. After nearly six years of ownership Mrs Day sold this example back to the supplying dealer at which point the car had covered 11,550 miles. Bel Royal Motors Ltd once again sold the vehicle to the second owner, a fanatical MX-5 enthusiast who has cherished the car ever since. His love for the car is quite apparent with many accessories purchased to preserve his pride and joy along with carefully handwritten notes and maintenance diary. He was an avid member of the Mazda MX-5 Owners Club and attended the various club events including the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the plaque proudly displayed on the centre console.
The history file itself is very comprehensive with the original Mazda document wallet housing all handbooks, guides and dealership literature including the service book containing 15 stamped entries, the first 9 being the supplying dealer, Bel Royal Motors Ltd. The most recent service was in 2020 at 24,064 miles and a documented cambelt change was carried out at 19,946 miles. Also, the all-important body inspection record has been stamped in the service book. A separate history folder contains a huge file of Mazda service invoices and checklists as well as later servicing invoices from an independent specialist. There are three Mazda keys and an original MX-5 range sales brochure. This car is sure to delight the collector and is perfectly suited to an enthusiast wanting to experience fun and reliable classic motoring, just as Mazda intended when new 23 years ago!
