Ford Cortina Mk1 1500 De Luxe

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An award winning Mk1 Ford Cortina 1500 De Luxe with awesome performance.

EQUIPMENT
All steel unitary construction, safety glass all round, zero torque anti-burst locks, air extraction vents, bright metal exterior ornamentation, single-tone horn, sealed beam headlamps, painted fascia and upper door cappings, front bucket seats, padded dashtop, aluminium scuff plates, Aeroflow heating and ventilation, engine temperature gauge, twin sunvisors, seat belt stowage points, cigar lighter, 3-spoke sports steering wheel.  Factory options; 1500cc engine.

EXTERIOR
The iconic Mk1 Ford Cortina is instantly recognisable and draws much attention and affection from onlookers.  Being no exception, the exterior finish of this incredible example is simply breath taking.  A fully documented 2007 bare metal re-spray in the original colour of Ford Ermine White (code BA) was carried out as part of a full restoration program and was to include underside paint detailing.  A four door vehicle was intentionally chosen as an alternative to the majority two door cars, and the common Lotus Cortina recreation was avoided.  The paintwork is close to flawless with imperfections traceable only upon the most fastidious scrutiny, namely a hairline crack to the paint on the seam joining each front wing to the windscreen scuttle, utterly insignificant.  Huge expense and countless hours of devotion are clearly evident with the resulting finish scarcely bettered.  The chrome bumpers, brightwork and rubber trim sections are perfect and the original bonnet and rear badges display only the faintest natural patina.  A spotless detailed engine bay upholds the condition of the exterior and features expensive re-plating and refurbishment of all components.  A stunning Mk1 worthy of much admiration and pride.

INTERIOR
The original interior of this classic Cortina is wonderfully nostalgic!  The sculptured front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in vibrant Red PVC (code B393) and remain in remarkable condition.  The seats have retained all integrity and shape with only very faint crazing to the top of the driver’s seat worthy of mention, incredible considering nearly 50 years have passed by!   The matching door cards are pristine as is the washable headlining and matching twin sunvisors.  All gauges and controls housed in the stunning painted fascia are clear and fully operational, and a period optional accessory Sharp Solid State radio remains in place.  A TIM tachometer discreetly located on the dash underside offers a hint to this cars exhilarating nature.  The stylish three spoke sports steering wheel is simply stunning, a real design piece.  A fantastic classic Cortina interior, true to Fords intentions.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The factory optional 1500cc engine was an upgrade from the standard 1200cc unit.  The original pre-crossflow engine in this example has benefited from a mind blowing program of improvement, largely from renowned Burton Power of Ilford, Essex.  An exhaustive specification list that includes, to name but a few, many Lotus components, twin 40” carburettors, Ashley manifold and stainless exhaust system and Kent 244 camshaft.  The result of this no expense spared devotion is a driving experience that will excite any enthusiast immensely.  A four speed 2000E Bullet gearbox completes the package and is light and precise.  Fast, fun and fantastic in every respect.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Wonderfully period Minilight wheels with polished outer rims are simply perfect and are shod in nearly new Yokohama 185/60 R13 tyres.  Tastefully lowered using fully adjustable GAZ shocks give this Cortina the ultimate imposing stance to go with the epic handling.  To ensure the car stops as well as it goes and upgrade braking system incorporates vented front discs with Capri 2.8i callipers and 8in rear drums.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 6th December 1966 as a humble mid-range 1500 De Luxe, this example led an unassuming yet cherished existence throughout its first four decades.  It wasn’t until 2006 when despite being a relatively sound useable example, Mr Stephen Greenwood thankfully saved the car from a ludicrous plan to scrap it!  Therein began an incredible quest to build the ultimate Mk1 Cortina with a twist.  A colossal history box file contains literally hundreds of receipts and invoices evidencing thousands of pounds worth of parts from renowned specialist suppliers, as well as many restoration photographs and previous MOT certificates.  The no expense spared mentality was clearly infectious and the overall build cost grew to an eye watering amount!  In 2011 Mr Barry Payne a friend of Mr Greenwood purchased the Cortina knowing what a fantastic opportunity it represented.  Mr Payne a very well known character on the classic Ford scene has owned countless classic blue oval marques and the Cortina sat nicely alongside his existing collection.  His fastidious nature and cherished ownership means the car remains presented in impeccable order, a real credit to them both.

A truly heart wrenching decision for Mr Payne to part with this car is born from the acquisition of a new project and KGF Classic Cars are delighted to offer this brilliant Mk1 Cortina to its next very lucky owner.

This incredible Ford Anglia 105E is finished in two-tone body painting of Shark Blue and Pompadour Blue and is flawless in every respect.  A painstaking approach for perfection by the second current owner is demonstrated by arrow straight panel gaps as a result of many hours applying lead loading.  Respected restoration specialists, Jules Bodycraft in Wolverhampton satisfied the owner’s desire for a 1960 Ford showroom experience and recently dated invoices totalling £16,075.63 prove this.  Every millimetre of chrome brightwork sparkles having been rechromed in 2014 at considerable cost and the underside is nut and bolt spotless having removed all the old paint and underseal.  The engine bay will amaze onlookers and has been meticulously detailed and the glass, rubbers and lenses are as new.  Truly breathtaking.

INTERIOR
The spacious interior of this remarkable Ford Anglia is a collectors dream.  The two-tone PVC seat trim matches the exterior beautifully and both owners have amazingly never removed the clear plastic film protecting the rear seats from new!  The door cards, headlining and ornamental metal dash is pristine and only the driver’s seat shows slight aging.  All controls, gauges and switches function perfectly including the optional for 1960, fresh air heater and demister.  Simply devine.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 4-cylinder, water cooled 997cc was new at the time and introduced the famous Kent code name to Ford.  Technical innovations allowed 39bhp and 53lbs/ft of torque to be produced while returning 40 plus mpg.  The original matching numbers engine has been completely rebuilt at Willenhall Engine Services at a cost of £1,200.  It is fully converted to accept unleaded fuel without the need for additives.  The close-ratio 4-speed gearbox with a snap-through change is fabulous.  As factory standard, there is no synchromesh on first gear.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed steel wheels with wide base rims have been powder coated as part of the no-expense-spared restoration and are fitted with immaculate and original bright metal hubcaps.  New matching Uniroyal RainExpert 135/80 R13 tyres are fitted .  Hydraulic internal expanding 8” drum brakes with two leading shoes up front stop this light car admirably.

HISTORY FILE
First registered on the 16th May 1960 and bought brand new by Mr William Berry from authorised Ford Dealers, Rumsey Limited in Bristol.  Cherished by him for 21 years until the second and only other custodian, Paul Guinness (now a well-known classic car journalist) purchased the vehicle in June 1981, as Mr Berry ‘upgraded’ to a new Fiesta. Paul was just 16 at the time.  The car had covered 56,000 miles at that point and the current low mileage of 69,210 has been reached during the 33 years that Paul has owned the car.  Although Paul learned to drive in this Anglia as soon as he passed his test he bought another Anglia for everyday use this example was used only sparingly for shows and club meetings.  Paul co-founded the Ford Anglia 105E Owners’ Club in 1982 where this car was a regular exhibit on the NEC club stand.  The car was kept on the road during the summer months through to 2005 when Paul decided that in 2013 it should undergo a full strip-down and rebuild to make it one of the world’s best examples.  Undoubtedly whoever buys it now will be getting the best-presented Anglia of its type, its restoration having cost more than three times the asking price alone.

The car comes complete with a professionally made plaque display board showing some of the events it attended in the 1980s, as well as a ‘silver’ plate that it won at a MkI Cortina OC event for Best Visitor’s Car.  Supplied are the original framed sales invoice, a host of old tax discs, plus a selection of original Anglia brochures, a parts book and much more.  An amazing opportunity.

HISTORY FILE
With only around 2,500 Mk2 Ford Mexico’s made, (source Ford RS Owners Club), this car represents a rare breed!  Positioned awkwardly in price and specification between a 1600 Sport and an RS2000 when new the Mexico had a very short production run and therefore is now a highly sought after model amongst collectors.  Supplied new to the first of just seven former keepers by Ford Rallye Sport Dealer, E.Hodgsons, in May 1978 this vehicle has been enthusiast owned throughout.  The new vehicle invoice reveals a total price paid of £3,325.32 including £20.21 for Signal Yellow and £46.75 for a vinyl roof!  An A4 folder containing numerous invoices and MOT certificates help demonstrate the care devoted to this example.  A separate file relating to restoration work in 2002 totals £10,423.25 and is accompanied with photographs.  This actual vehicle is also comprehensively featured in Classic Ford magazines Mk2 Escort Mexico Buyers Guide in December 1999 revealing the features of a genuine Mexico and helping to reassure the next buyer of this rare Fords authenticity.
