EXTERIOR
The sporting yet highly equipped Ford Sierra XR4i boasted an equipment level that matched the luxury Ghia models, and at the time was Ford’s most sporty Sierra prior to the launch of the original Cosworth. Distinctive ‘Six light’ body shells were unique to the XR4i with six panes of side glass with opening rear quarters, a variation to the Four-light shells used in the Cosworth and lesser three door base models. This outstanding example is finished in stunning factory original Ford Black (Code A9), an option specified upon order at a cost of £80.68. A deep glossy shine and uniform finish give this car fantastic presence and real show pleasing appeal. All factory panels are pin straight and the underside is structurally perfect and unspoilt. The extensive moulded trim sections including the polycarbonate lower side panels are flawless and the red piping to the fittings is bright and free from fading. The sunroof, whilst totally intact and watertight does show mild delamination to the inside glass edges. Perfect XR4i decals and badges proudly stand for power, comfort and sportiness.
INTERIOR
This superb classic 1980’s Ford interior has been preserved impeccably. The fabric sports seats are trimmed in Oxford Grey (code QP) with matching door cards and colour scheme carpeting. The supportive high comfort seats are spotlessly clean and free from wear, and the upholstered door cards are factory fresh albeit for a tiny nick to the passenger side piece. The carpeted areas are very clean, as is the headlining which shows only very light and minimal discolouration, visible only upon very close scrutiny. The perfect dashboard and fascia is free from cracks and remains absolutely as Ford intended, even down to the factory ECU1 stereo with speaker direction control wand. The multifunction digital clock computer holds date, time and stopwatch functions. Bright red pin-striping to the instrument binnacle, horn push and door cards emphasise the raciness of this perfectly unmolested interior. Ford magic at its best and almost impossible to find this good.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 2792cc V6 unit closely matched to that of the 2.8 Injection Capri features a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system and viscous coupled fan to produce 150 BHP at 5700rpm and 216Nm torque at 6000rpm. Capable of 130mph and 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds, the rapid performance is smooth and quiet whilst producing an unmistakable exhaust burble. A pristine engine bay featuring a correct Motorcraft battery and factory stickers ticks all the boxes for the enthusiast and collector. The 5 speed gearbox is light and progression through the range is precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five aluminium alloy 14 x 5.5in wheels in ‘Pepperpot’ style are in fantastic order with only very light and minimal scratches to the outer rims. The quality Fulda Y2000+ tyres have masses of tread remaining and the spare wheel remains shod in the original Dunlop SP Sport item. Hydraulic dual line brakes with vacuum servo assistance offer ample stopping power and complete assurance.
