HISTORY FILE
A car with quite a story. Built in September 1973 and registered new on the 8th October 1973, the car has covered just 25,105 miles from new in the hands of only three owners. The first owner, Mr Brian Searle, worked for the supplying Ford Main Dealer, H. C. Smith & Son Ltd of Tadley, and instantly fell in love with the 2000E when it was launched to replace the GXL in late 1973. This Sebring Red car was one of the first 2000E’s received into stock and Mr Searle simply had to have one! These early launch specification 2000E models still had GXL stamped on the identification plate and other unique features. In a twist of perhaps veiled fortune, Mr Searle received a promotion the following year and gained a company car in the form of a Ford Granada. Not willing to part with his beloved Cortina, it was placed into hibernation in his Mother in Law’s heated garage where it remained for 24 years! In 1998 the reluctant decision was made to sell the car to colleague, Mr Neil Blaxhill, who cherished the car for 19 years with sunny day usage only. In 2017 the car was sold to the third and final owner, Mr Mathew Perkins, a car collector who embarked on tours of North Yorkshire in the car and even France! KGF Classic Cars are immensely proud to have acquired what is quite possibly the best unrestored Mk3 Cortina 2000E in existence.

The history file includes the original handbook and 1973 Cortina range sales brochure as well as a folder of receipts, invoices, previous MOT certificates and the Ford Main Dealer tax disc holder, original key and keyring. This is the ultimate collectors Mk3 Cortina in exceptional original condition that is virtually unheard of.

The desirable and optional fully trimmed detachable hardtop is included and remains in excellent condition.

INTERIOR
Reclining contoured seats with head restraints are finished in Beige Hounds Tooth patterned brushed nylon fabric trimmed in expanded vinyl fabric, (Code 079). The interior is divine and displays the amazingly low mileage credentials perfectly with unmarked fine walnut veneer facia and plump spotless full width moulded pile carpets. The drivers seat back panel was replaced due to a tear and all the gauges, switches and stalks operate with crystal clear digits and logos. This really is an excellent Triumph interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The simple 1493cc four-cylinder engine develops a spirited 71bhp at 6500rpm enabling a top speed of 100mph and 0-60mph in 13.2 seconds. The engine bay is an exhibitionists dream with gleaming components. Those who enjoy tinkering with their classic car will have unrivalled access due to the huge front bonnet lifting clear and amazing parts availability and Club support. The four-speed gearbox with synchromesh to all gears has the desirable and factory optional overdrive fitted which is fully functional.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed steel disc type wheel are immaculate with perfect Triumph centre caps. Firestone 155/80 R13 tyres are fitted to all wheels with excellent tread remaining. Front 9in disc brakes with 7in rear drums stop the car safely and quickly.

HISTORY FILE
This car has a fascinating history to warrant the tiny 11,403 miles covered. Registered new on the 1st January 1979 to a Mrs Constance Miriam Simpson by Westridge Garage, she owned the car for 15 years. The singed new car purchase invoice and letter to the DVLC by her sister, Mrs Styles in the file, reveals that she unfortunately died in a house fire. The Spitfire parked in a separate garage remained untouched and escaped the tragic fire. A few months later on the 5th July 1994 a detailed AA Vehicle Inspection Report was carried out on the vehicle whereby the examiner Mr Skilton, (MIMI), writes ‘I have found it to be in an excellent condition which suggests it was mothballed very well indeed with no hint of corrosion problems commonly expected for its age.’ The car had covered 10,113 miles at the time of the inspection. Mrs Styles decided to have the vehicle fully recommissioned and shortly after it was sold to Nissan Main Dealers, West End Motors of Bodmin who subsequently sold it to The Triumph Sports Six Club, (TSSC), for £5,500. The vehicle remained in their care and on display in their museum in Lubenham as a benchmark of originality for the model for 17 years. Since this time it has been owned by just three respected Triumph enthusiasts.

Rarely does such a pristine, low mileage Triumph Spitfire become available and this example will satisfy those seeking the best of the marque.

EXTERIOR
The instantly recognisable ‘coke bottle’ shape of the Mk3 Cortina is every inch a 1970’s icon and this example looks stunning in the original colour of Ermine White, (Code B). The paintwork looks fantastic with a uniform finish and all panels are in good condition with remedial work carefully undertaken to uphold the appearance. The original black vinyl roof is in superb order with no lifting and only a very small shallow ding to the nearside edge. The unique GXL badges and trim sections are factory fitment and all trim pieces are fully intact with only light tarnishing to some chrome sections around the rear lights. One of the rarest and most sought after of all Cortina’s, this range topping 2000 GXL presents very well indeed.

INTERIOR
The super stylish Mk3 Cortina interior features special extra padded GXL seats which in this example are trimmed in factory optional Black Fabric, (Code A1). The seats are in very good order with firm structure and only minimal wear. The upholstery is damage free aside from a slight thinning of the fabric to the driver’s seat upper bolster. Matching door cards with simulated wood veneer are fully intact as are the trim sections, handles and perforated headlining. The dashboard is completely free from cracks and houses fully functioning equipment and switchgear with exception of the non-functioning radio. The centre console houses the four extra gauges, unique to the GT models and range topping GXL model. Slight fading to the toggle switches is a minor observation to an otherwise brilliant 1970’s GXL interior.

Ford’s time tested and trustworthy 2000cc OHC ‘Pinto’ unit needs little introduction. With a power output of 112bhp, a top speed of 103mph and a 0-60 time of 10.2 seconds all allow the car to match the pace of modern traffic with ease. The engine is very quiet and smooth and performs just as it should. The four speed all synchromesh manual gearbox feels light with a positive clutch action and relaxed motoring is effortless.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five styled sports road wheels have been refurbished and look great, and the chrome embellishers are mirror bright with only the lightest of markings. Four matching branded Falken Sincera in the factory size of 185/70 R13 have ample tread remaining. Registered new on the 30th June 2003 by Ford Main Dealers, Chris Allen Garages Ltd this example has been impeccably maintained by them from new! A total of 15 service entries with corresponding invoices detail every visit and along with the annual MOT history, warrant the very low 10,937 miles covered. The last visit was in March 2020 for a full service, cam-belt and water pump. The vehicle has only been registered to a retired Mr Anthony Lee who paid £19,995 as documented by the new vehicle invoice. Personally handed over by the garage owner, Max Harper-Allen who asked Mr Lee to give him first refusal if ever he sold the car due to its limited numbers and knowing Mr Lee was fanatical about his Fords! True to his word, Mr Lee sold the car back to the garage in 2016 where it has remained in Mr Allen’s care and in his private Ford collection. Working in the industry with trade insurance, Mr Allen has never registered the car in his name so it remains, one registered keeper on the registration document. A letter in the history file confirms this ownership.

All original handbooks, guides and special RS supplement are contained within the Ford leather RS wallet. Two keys with RS fobs are present. This car is not only amazing in its condition but in its history too making this what must be, one of the finest Mk1 Focus RS examples currently available.
