This outstanding Ford Sierra XR4x4 is simply incredible having covered just 22,404 miles from new with only two owners. The factory optional and original Flint Grey Metallic paintwork, (Code T9), is exceptionally clean with a deep polished and uniform shine throughout. Close scrutiny will reveal nothing other than miniscule markings and a virtually undetectable ding to the boot lid. Remaining in completely standard form, all trim sections and coloured coded body styling remain in near perfect condition and the original glass displays factory etching. The headlamps are correct Carello fitment and all other light clusters original Ford items. The underside is completely untouched and a welcome absence of excess applied underseal allows easy inspection to see just how clean this car is. Very special and certainly one of the best remaining examples.
Representative of the incredibly low mileage is this beautifully clean and unspoilt interior, again in totally standard form. The plush Shadow Astral upholstery, (Code L1), is in fantastic order. The door cards in matching Astral/Starline fabric have virtually no shrinkage to the fabric, an otherwise very common occurrence, and there is a tiny nick to the driver’s door arm rest. Protected by genuine Ford carpet mats, the colour-keyed velour carpet is very clean and free from wear and the special soft cloth headlining is excellent with no sagging whatsoever. The fully intact dashboard has no cracks and all switchgear is functional and intact, including the original Ford stereo radio/cassette (Model 2007) and power amplifier. The spotless boot area has immaculate carpeting, an undamaged circular ply-board wheel cover and unused jack and all factory build stickers are intact. A very rare modern classic Ford remaining exactly as intended.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Only the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth in the range boasted more power at the time than brilliantly sounding 2.9 EFi V6 engine fitted to this XR4x4. Featuring the robust EEC IV engine management system, the power output was quoted at 150bhp at 5700rpm and 233Nm of torque at 3000rpm, achieving a top speed of 127mph and 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds. Remaining in totally standard specification, the engine bay is spotless and displays factory plates, stickers and slam panel stamp and the original inner wings with Ford emblem and date stamps clearly visible. Even the green PDI dabs haven’t worn away! The permanent four-wheel drive system offers real sure-footedness and the five-speed gearbox is light and effortless.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory standard 14” X 5½in seven spokes alloy wheels are barely marked and display prominent raised spoke stampings and emblems. Virtually new and quality branded Firestone Firehawk 195/60 R14 tyres are fitted to all four road wheels and the spare wheel has the original unused Uniroyal Rallye tyre still fitted with knobbles intact! The dual line servo assisted G-Valve brakes with ventilated 10.5” front discs and solid rear discs feature factory optional anti-lock assistance (ABS) to bring the car up to a steady, straight and assured halt.
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer, Taits of Hemsworth Ltd, and registered new on 1st August 1990, the vehicle was purchased new by Mr Peter Seymour. A new vehicle sales invoice in the history file made out to Mr Seymour confirms the price paid of £15,271 including optional extras and even the dealership welcome letter sent to him has been kept. Mr Seymour kept to car for 25 years at which point in June 2015 the second and only other keeper, Mr Alan Roberts, purchased the car. Mr Roberts is a Ford Collector with an eclectic mix of Granada’s, Cortina’s, Scorpio’s and early rare Mondeo’s.
The history file consists of the original document wallet with the service book, handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as two sets of keys with dealership keyrings. There is a further history folder containing some supplying main dealer invoices and many MOT certificates. Wearing the iconic Ford XR badge and with credentials of 22,404 miles with two owners, this prized example will delight the enthusiast and collector alike. A very special car.
