EXTERIOR
The automotive symbol of America must be the Ford Mustang and this 1966 2dr Hardtop embodies everything that is great about this design classic. Finished in the original colour of Nightmist Blue Metallic, (Code K), the paintwork boasts a deep glossy shine and uniform finish. The iconic lines are unspoilt and this car gains much admiration on every journey. Remedial paintwork has been carried out over the years in order to uphold the beautiful appearance. There is a repaired chip in the windscreen and usage markings throughout the car but these are only minor and do not detract from the overall impressive appearance. The extensive chrome work has a stunning mirror shine with the faintest pitting to the small pieces such as the boot lock. The Pony emblem and all other badges are intact. Correct for a 1966 revised design are the front Mustang Corral badge without emanating spears and the three fingered side scoop which identify this car from its older and younger siblings. This cherished and unspoilt example is simply wonderful.

INTERIOR
The interior of this Ford muscle car is preserved in amazing condition. The Black Pleated Vinyl seat trim, (Code 26), is original factory fitment and remains in superb order. There are no rips or holes to the upholstery, carpets or side trim. The headlining is fully intact and the fascia remains just as Ford intended with the factory fitted Ford radio (non-functioning) and the four central vents. The five-pod gauge cluster and controls operate as they should and the ornate deep-dish steering wheel with three spoke horn bar is a work of art. The extensive chrome switchgear looks great with only light tarnishing to some pieces. Front and rear seatbelts are also standard fitment for a 1966 car and this original example even has the factory tyre pressure label inside the glove compartment! Comfortable seating for five and a clean capacious ‘trunk’, this American legend is the perfect family classic!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Simplicity, ease of maintenance and fantastic parts availability were part of what made the Mustang so unbelievably successful and this mantra has never changed, a muscle car for the people. Cross referencing factory records and the vehicle identification number confirms this example is fitted with the correct 289 CID V8 engine which has benefitted from subtle upgrades to include a 4 barrell Holley carburettor, (4V), and Edelbrock manifold. The V8 burble and intoxicating roar is simply wonderful and everything you could desire from a classic Mustang. The engine bay is clean with factory labels and stickers as well as original Fomoco components. Fitted as a factory option is the Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed C4 automatic transmission operated by a floor mounted T-bar handle which operates exactly as it should.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Rally chromed plated wheels with black inserts and red Mustang centre caps look great and have some aging evident. Matching branded classic style P215/70 R14 tyres with whitewall pinstripe were fitted new in 2020 and are virtually unused. Hydraulic self-adjusting and self-energising brakes feature grooved drums and operate well.

HISTORY FILE
Information from factory records confirms that this Mustang was manufactured on the 26th August 1965, (one of the first of the 1966 Model Year specification cars), and registration took pace in the district of Los Angeles. Further decoding of the VIN confirms the build specification; body type – 2 door hardtop with standard buckets seats, colour and trim, axle and transmission. The factory fitted VIN plate remains attached to the rear face of the left door. The supplying dealer was Don Hartunian’s Hollywood Ford on Hollywood Boulevard and the car was first registered to Werner Salomen, M.D. Remarkably the new car sales literature has been keep including the original sales invoice confirming the order, options and a price paid of $3,365.99. The service booklet is present. The car enjoyed long term ownership while in the US with the first owner, Angelika Salomen, owning the car well into the 1980’s! The current owner viewing many Mustangs and even commissioned a new build which was terminated in the early stages due to poor workmanship when eventually this example was discovered and snapped up.

A huge history file is a joy to read and thorough perusal of such would take hours. There are masses of invoices, many of which date back throughout the 1970, 80’s and 90’s. In March 2018 the car was imported to the UK whereby full DVLA registration took place.

The car is a wonderful example of an unspoilt 1966 Ford Mustang, wanting for nothing and ready to enjoy. A guaranteed wide-smile slice of Americana!
