Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 SRi

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A virtually extinct Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 SRi with just 37,394 miles and two owners.

EQUIPMENT
Laminated windscreen, Bronze tint shadeband, safety crumple zones, rigid passenger safety cell, deep front air spoiler, rear spoiler, burst-proof locks, halogen headlamps, twin rear fog lamps, electric door mirrors, Recaro rally style front seats, upholstered front seat headrests, folding rear seat, rear wash/wipe, Phillips push button stereo cassette, quartz clock, cigar lighter, centre console. SRi special equipment; 2-tone horn, Anthracite coloured mouldings, body-striping, 3-spoke sports steering wheel, carpeted load area, additional sound insulation. Dealer options; Front driving lamps, mud flaps, tailored rubber floor mats.

EXTERIOR
This incredibly rare Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 SRi was once a common sight on UK roads but now represents a hugely nostalgic piece of sporting Vauxhall history. This early SRi on an A prefix in Hatchback guise is finished in White Gold/Anthracite (code E421 & 303), a two tone paint scheme unique to the SRi model. The paintwork presents very well with a bright polished shine, however, areas of paint rectification undertaken by the previous keeper although not unsightly are not to professional standards. All factory panels are straight apart from one which has a small ding and inspection of the underside reveals the structural integrity. Factory stampings are clearly visible along the inner boot shuts. All glass, lights, badges and trim sections are in fantastic order and this totally unmolested example even retains its supplying dealer plates and rear screen sticker! Hugely sentimental to many individuals who owned examples in the 1980’s.

INTERIOR
A clean, functional and retro Vauxhall interior is sure to delight fans of the Griffin badged cars! The original Highland Check cloth trim in beige colour scheme is incredible and every inch commensurate with the cars low mileage credentials. The upholstery is clean with only very minimal wear to the sporting Recaro driver’s seat. The matching colour scheme door cards and headlining are pristine and the carpets are beautifully preserved having been protected from new by tailored Vauxhall rubber floor mats. All functions and controls operate perfectly including the Phillips push button mono stereo cassette. The dashboard and internal trim pieces are exceptional with no cracks or damage whatsoever and the rear parcel shelf is free from speaker cut outs. Prominent natural veins to the steering wheel and gearknob are an obvious trait of such a low mileage example. A true time warp interior complete with period scent, worthy of any show stand.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This top of the range for performance SRi model features the powerful 1800i OHC four cylinder engine developing 115bhp at 5800rpm and 111.4lb/ft of torque at 4800rpm. A top speed of 114.2mph and 0-60 in 9.4 seconds affirmed this Cavalier as a real performance contender within its sector. The engine bay is clean, unaltered and displays factory plates and stickers. The five speed all syncromesh gearbox with 8.5in diameter mechanical clutch feels light, precise and tight.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five factory standard 5½ J sports alloy wheels are hugely retro and the black infill sections remain correct. Whilst presentable, the finish to the wheels is average owing to amateur attempts at refurbishment. Branded 195/60 R14 low profile tyres are of the correct size and have plenty of tread remaining. Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with servo assistance feature 9.3in ventilated front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers Charles Warner Ltd in Lincoln on the 8th June 1984 to first keeper, Mr Francis Harsley, who kept the car for over 25 years until the second and only other keeper, Mr Armstrong, purchased the vehicle to add to his classic car collection. A mere 37,394 miles has been covered and the original service booklet contains several Vauxhall Main Dealer stamped entries up to 1997 whereby the first keeper ceased driving due to old age. This service work was carried out predominantly by the supplying dealer. A folder of previous MOT certificates and invoices cover the period with the second keeper after the car was recommissioned immediately on purchase in 2009 when the car had covered 36,429 miles. With little use since, it would be prudent to complete a full service if regular use is intended. The original Vauxhall plastic A5 wallet contains all book packs, radio guides and dealership literature. A very real and formidable Sierra contender throughout the 1980’s, the Mk2 Cavalier particularly in SRi guise has survived in far fewer numbers and now represents a very special and rare modern classic car.

Factory options; Metallic paint. Dealer options; Mud flaps, Phillips push button stereo cassette.

EXTERIOR
Finished in factory optional Sapphire Blue Metallic, (Code L218), the original paintwork is beautifully preserved. Minor blemishes, truly insignificant, are entirely forgiven on this factory fresh unrestored example and do not detract from the simply amazing condition this Cavalier is in. Factory panels remain fitted and panel stampings are clearly visible in the boot area and engine bay. All trim sections, rubbers, badges, lights and GM Securit glass are virtually as new. The original number plates are fitted, as is the supplying dealer sticker in the rear screen. The conscientious owner paid extra to have rust protection when new which remains in isolated areas. Truly a one off and a must see to fully appreciate this outstanding unrestored Cavalier.

INTERIOR
A spotlessly clean, functional and retro Vauxhall interior is certain to amaze fans of the Griffin badged cars. The original ribbed velour interior trim in Blue, (Code NN371), is preserved in as new condition, commensurate with the exceptionally low mileage. Devoted Father and Son ownership is clear to see with all trim pieces, carpets and door cards in pristine order. Light scratches can be seen to the inner door catch bezels. The matching blue dashboard and switchgear are perfect and all functions operate flawlessly including the Phillips push button stereo cassette. The headlining is fully intact. All gauges in the ‘six pod’ dash exclusive to the GLS Coupe and Sportshatch models show healthy readouts. A real time warp interior, worthy of any museum exhibit.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This top of the range 1900GLS model features the punchy 1897cc OHC four cylinder engine developing 90bhp at 4800rpm and 105lb/ft of torque at 3800rpm. The engine bay is beautifully clean, unaltered and displays factory stickers. Panel stampings are clearly visible on the inner wings and slam panel, and protective wax is evident having clearly served its purpose. The four speed all syncromesh gearbox feels light, precise and tight, just as you would expect from a 17,115 mile example.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory fitted Sports Road wheels still have the original bright wheel trim rings and Griffin badged centre caps. These unrestored rims have only faint markings and the manufacture stampings are clearly defined, a feature lost upon even light refurbishment. Incredibly the factory Goodyear Radial 185/70 SR13 tyres remain fitted and whilst in good visual order with ample tread, renewal prior to regular use would be a wise safety precaution. The pristine boot area houses the matching spare with vinyl cover along with the jack and wheel brace. Dual circuit brakes with servo assistance feature 9.7in front discs and 9.1in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.

HISTORY FILE
KGF Classic Cars are proud and privileged to present the holy grail of the Mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier. This outstanding and range topping 1900GLS Coupe has remained in the ownership of Father and Son from new and has covered an incredible and genuine 17,115 miles! Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers Forsyth & Ferrier Ltd of Stamford on the 1st February 1978 to first keeper, Mr Graham Rudd, who kept the car for over 38 years! Upon his passing, ownership passed to his son, Michael Rudd, with whom it has remained since. Mr Rudd Senior was a fastidious character who cherished the car. Hand written notes by him reveal the regularity of service work and how even Vauxhall Main Dealer servicing didn’t meet his standards! He even purchased a cheap van for the work commute in order to keep the Cavalier for Sunday best! A Forsyth & Ferrier Ltd new car sales invoice confirms the price paid of £4,964.13 with Mr Rudd’s 1976 Cavalier in part exchange. The original GM ‘Service Your Vauxhall’ wallet contains the handbook and service record along with dealership supplied literature. A large folder contains neatly filed invoices and receipts as well as a collection of previous MOT certificates dating back to the first in 1981! Previous tax discs are mounted in the file and there is a receipt from Peterborough Kwik-fit in 1984 for a stainless steel exhaust system. A very rare find in this condition and provenance, stop here for one of the best remaining Mk1 Cavaliers in existence.
