EQUIPMENT

Dealer options; Mud flaps, Vauxhall rubber floor mats.

EXTERIOR
This original Astra GTE is finished in Vauxhall Crimson Red, (Code 76L), and boasts a brilliant bright shine all over with a uniform finish. The vehicle is structurally outstanding and retains all factory fitted panels including original front wings with inner stamps and rear arches fully intact. There are some small frontal stone chips that have been carefully touched in and the black decal to the tailgate has lifted slightly. All factory fit glass is etched with the vehicle registration including the front screen and lights are correct Carello and Hella fitment in superb order. The original GTE decals and badges are fully intact. Virtually impossible to find such a straight, genuine and preserved example.

INTERIOR
The interior of this example is exactly as it left the factory and very well presented. Trimmed in Laser cloth trim with matching door cards, (Code 821), the standard specification for the GTE. The seats are beautifully clean and have retained all shape and integrity and even the large protruding seat bolsters have mostly avoided the common wear seen on many examples. The door cards have some slight shrinkage and the headlining has loosened slightly towards the rear. The dashboard and incorporated switchgear are perfect and fully functional, including the factory fitted Phillips 752 security coded stereo cassette. Further GTE specific equipment extends to the fantastic Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) instrument cluster and additional separate 7-function check control panel, both of which perform exactly as the manufacturer intended with all pixels fully functioning. The colour keyed carpet has been protected by rubber Vauxhall tailored over mats. A wonderfully preserved and period 1980’s Vauxhall interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1998cc eight valve four cylinder SOHC engine is renowned for its lively nature and robust reliability. Producing 122.3BHP and maximum torque output of 127.6 lb.ft, the 8V was a truly strong contender in the ultra-competitive 1980’s hot hatch era. Fitted with a sympathetic to the original, stainless steel exhaust system, this otherwise factory standard example performs impeccably and produces an exciting rasp from the brilliant free-revving engine. A top speed of 127mph is achieved whilst 0-62 is dealt with in an impressive 8.7 seconds. The engine bay is beautifully presented with factory plates and labels intact. The 5-speed manual gearbox with final drive ratio of 3:55:1 feels positively tight and allows spirited progression up the range.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original alloy road wheels fitted as standard to the GTE are in excellent condition with only the faintest age-related markings. Brand new premium brand Pirelli Cinturato P1 185/65/R14 tyres have been fitted in May 2022 and have covered zero miles. The braking system incorporates 10.1in ventilated front discs and 7.9in rear drums offering ample stopping power under even the most enthusiastic use.

HISTORY FILE
This superb unspoilt example was registered new on 30th October 1987 through the Vauxhall Dealer Sport network. The car has covered a warranted 76,100 miles from new and remains in original unrestored condition, a very rare claim for a Mk2 Astra. The comprehensive history file is neatly filed with services invoices and MOT certificates dating back to the very first in 1990! All original handbooks, radio guides and manufacturer point of sale literature is present in the plastic wallet along with two sets of keys. A service and cambelt change were carried out in May 2022 at 76,100 miles. Completing the history file are two period brochures featuring the model along with copies of the Practical Classics magazine where this exact car was featured in a comprehensive buyers guide as the benchmark for someone wanting to find an unspoilt preserved Astra GTE. A highly prized classic Astra GTE, just as Vauxhall intended and ready to enjoy.
