This delightfully nostalgic Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 Convertible is a genuine example factory converted from new by German Coachbuilder Voll under the Hammond and Thiede brand. One of only 1,283 UK supplied cars and 2,873 produced in total, this is a is a rare survivor indeed. Finished in Anthracite Metallic, (Code E 107), the paintwork boasts a deep polished shine and uniform finish. Light touched in markings are visible upon close scrutiny but do not detract from the overall appearance. All factory panels are damage free with straight shut lines, and the factory finish underside free from excess underseal allows easy structural inspection. A brand-new quality hood and rear screen have been fitted and remain in perfect order, and the original tonneau is present. This unmolested example even retains supplying dealer branded number plates. Hugely nostalgic, this is the perfect retro open-top family tourer!

A clean, functional and period Vauxhall interior is sure to delight fans of the Griffin badged cars! The original Grey Twill Sport cloth trim is clean and in good order. Only slight loosening of the driver’s seat base material and a neatly repaired nick to the outer bolster are points worthy of mention. The matching colour scheme door cards are in excellent order and the fully carpeted interior is clean. The dashboard is fully intact with no cracks and all functions and controls operate with exception of the factory fitted Philips DC 752 radio cassette, (A modern head unit is available should this be the new owner’s preference). A deliciously retro and very comfortable genuine four-seater convertible interior.

This Cavalier features the 1.8i torque-optimised engine with Bosch LE-Jetronic injection developing a lively 113bhp and 151Nm of torque. This robust, reliable and free-revving unit offers a fun driving experience and a maximum top speed of 115mph. The engine bay is very clean and unaltered with factory plates and stickers as well as the all-important Hammond and Thiede build plate confirming this as Commission Number 19 1866. The five speed all synchromesh gearbox feels light and precise.

Genuine GM BBS Intra 5Jx14 alloy wheels are upgrade items in fantastic condition with nothing other than tiny scratches, visible only upon close inspection. Matching 185/65 R14 tyres have masses of tread remaining. Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with servo assistance feature 9.3in ventilated front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.

Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers, J & G Bland (Motors) Ltd of Haverfordwest on the 20th August 1986, this excellent example has covered just 56,559 miles from new. A new car sales invoice in the history file made out to first owner, Mr J V Grossey, illustrates the purchase price of £11,446.47 less a part exchange allowance for a 1984 Vauxhall Astra 1200 3-door! Amusingly, there is a letter in the history file from Mr Grossey to J & G Bland (Motors) Ltd to complain about being overcharged for ½ Litre of oil following a service. The reply from J & G Bland (Motors) Ltd is also in the file where a credit of 90 pence + VAT is offered!

The huge history file includes the full book pack with stamped service book as well as all handbooks including the original Cavalier Convertible supplement. A further colossal history folder contains a huge collection of receipts, Vauxhall main dealer invoices and MOT certificates dating back throughout the cars lifetime to fully verify the mileage and evidence devoted upkeep. This well preserved and unmolested Cavalier is a credit to its former keepers and offers capable, practical and comfortable retro motoring, a guaranteed hit at shows.
