Owned from new by husband and wife, garage stored and truly cherished throughout the 21,763 miles covered, this example is certainly one of the best in existence. An exceptional example throughout.

INTERIOR
The term ‘time warp’ can often be misused but is absolutely suitable in this instance. It is difficult to detect any aspect of this quality interior that cannot be described as showroom. The ‘Granite’ Velvet Black upholstery, (Code EK), is perfect with no visible wear or markings to the seats and matching door cards. The interior plastics, fascia and trim are as new and items such as the steering wheel and gear knob display prominent veins found only on low mileage cars. The high specification equipment and controls operate perfectly and the switchgear has a satisfying quality feel. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original 1598cc four-cylinder petrol engine develops 75bhp and 135Nm of torque to achieve a top speed of 107mph and 0-62mph in 12.2 seconds. Far quieter and effortless acceleration and cruising capabilities are achieved over the smaller engine models and the 5-speed manual transmission feel tight and precise. The engine bay is super clean and original features such as factory stickers, plates, panel stamps and factory protective wax remain untouched.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard GL specification ‘Indianapolis’ 6J x 14 alloy wheels are in superb order with only very light markings to each front wheel and some delamination to the VW centre caps. Quality branded 185/55 R14 tyres show ample tread. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were specified as a factory option by the safety aware first owner and they operate perfectly.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 13th March 1997 by Volkswagen Main Dealer, Nigel Grogan Ltd of Colchester, the car has been owned from new by husband and wife, Mr and Mrs Armstrong. The original order form and sales invoice made out to safety conscious Mr Armstrong illustrates the price paid of £12,700 including comprehensive factory options costing £1,480.17. Purchased in retirement and used sparingly, the car was strictly garaged when not in use and in 1998 the car was registered to Mrs Patricia Armstrong upon her husband’s passing.

The history file is quite remarkable with the original service booklet containing 15 stamped entries (eight Volkswagen Main Dealer), incredible for such a low mileage car. The most recent entry was June 2020. Absolutely all handbooks, manuals and dealership point of sale literature is included in the leather document wallet and there are two Volkswagen keys with code tags. A further large history folder contains every corresponding service invoice and MOT certificates to fully verify the genuine low mileage. Morris Mini Mk1 Cooper S 970cc

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A rare homologation Morris Mini Mk1 Cooper S 970cc with previous FIA Passport.

MODEL HISTORY
The Cooper was introduced as a high performance model in October 1961. The Cooper name came from racing car constructor John Cooper, well respected in tuning the BMC A-series engine. The 970cc Cooper S was the lowest production British-built Cooper S, and was manufactured alongside both the 1071cc and 1275cc Cooper S at the Longbridge plant in the UK. It was produced for a 10 month period and was a special-order homologation derivative produced by BMC to allow the Cooper S to compete in Group 1 racing events. Although the performance of the 970cc Cooper S is inferior to the later 1275cc models, the rarity of this model and its ability to race in the under 1000cc racing class make it very collectable. It is stated that just 963 units were made of which 482 were Morris derivatives. (Source: Factory Orginal Mini Mk1 & Mk2 by James Taylor and the classicregister.com)
