Ford Escort RS Cosworth

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

The most incredible Ford Escort RS Cosworth with only 217 miles from new.

MODEL HISTORY
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship. It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), Group. It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann. In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth. A very rare car with only 7,145 examples being produced with this example being one of the last. (Source Wikipedia, 1995 Edition One RS Brochure and the RS Owners Club).

EQUIPMENT
Body colour front bumper with black lower extension, louvred bonnet air intakes, wing air extraction grilles, headlight electric wash, integral driving lights and fog lights, driver airbag, padded armrest with cassette storage, anti-theft alarm, delayed courtesy light, oil pressure gauge, turbo gauge, voltmeter, quartz digital clock with ambient temperature, electro-luminescent dials, Ford 2007 RDS radio/cassette.

EXTERIOR
With 200 hours detail development in Fords own Cologne wind tunnel the rally-bred innovation of this Standard Edition model is unmistakable and outwardly exhilarating. Finished in unmarked Radiant Red, (Code P 2), the finish can be described as impeccable thanks to the ultra-low mileage and indoor storage. The black lower bumper extension is unmarked still with PDI chalk marks and a front air splitter and wheelarch deflectors have never been fitted from new. All glass, lights and trim are factory fitment and in perfect condition. The underside of this 217 mile wonder is astonishing. Every label, sticker, tag and paint dab is visible. The light application of wax applied at the Rheine Assembly Plant have never been removed and this example is absolutely the blueprint to Fords scintillating Escort RS Cosworth.

INTERIOR
The interior of this late production Escort RS Cosworth is as new and exactly as Ford intended. The body-hugging Recaro seats finished in Raven with Pimento Red Hexagon Cloth, (Code 09), are sublime with complete fullness. Graham Goode carpet mats were fitted by Graham himself protecting the carpets and all trim, door cards and headlining is perfect. Turning the ignition on reveals all electrics operational including the Ford 2007 RDS radio/cassette still with the Keycode P1COS. The rare Standard Edition model has none of the Luxury Edition specification so manual windows, manual door mirrors and other equipment omissions are correct. Incredibly special and a collectors dream come true!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The powerful and well proven Cosworth 2.0 litre 16v turbocharged YBT engine features the Garrett T25 hybrid turbocharger. Its lower rotor inertia, higher gas velocities and revised overboost strategy reduces turbo lag and improves drivability. 220bhp is quoted with 0-60mph obliterated in 5.7 secs and a top speed of 140 mph. It must be noted that this example has remained untouched and requires a full recommission. Please see options in the History section. The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is a proven combination.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS 8 X 16” five soft-spoke alloy wheels built by Ronal are pristine and still shod in the specially formulated and factory Pirelli P Zero tyres developed for the Escort RS Cosworth. The tyres are not cracked or perished. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
This iconic Ford Escort RS Cosworth Standard Edition was built in October 1995 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new on the 1st August 1996. It is one of the final examples made and was supplied to the first of only two keepers, Mr Graham Derek Goode by main dealers, Brooklyn Ford of Redditch. Mr Goode, (Managing Director of Graham Goode Motors Ltd in Leicester and renowned RS Specialist), purchased the car as an investment and it was one of the last ones available that could registered on a ‘P’ registration. He immediately put his personalised registration number on the car P1COS, a Graham Goode Racing sticker on the tailgate and Graham Goode carpet mats, all still present except the personalised plate. The car was displayed a few times and owned by him until 2010 when purchased by the only other owner and serial Ford Collector. There is an invoice in the file from the sale in 2010 and a photo of Graham Goode himself with the car when new. A recent email dated 2nd March 2022 from Graham confirms his ownership and all the detail.

It must be noted that this example will require fully recommissioning as it remains untouched with 217 miles. KGF Classic Cars are fully prepared to absorb the cost of this with Graham Goode Motors should the new owner wish. We are sympathetic that this may not be desired and the choice will be entirely the new owners.

All keys and all Ford handbooks are supplied and tax disc from 1996 along with a new car sales brochure and original Graham Goode key fob. KGF Classic Cars are honoured to be associated with this historically significant Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

A fascinating history. Registered on the 2nd October 1980 and fanatically owned by Francis Rossiter Derwant Ucha from 1985 until 2015. With two scholarships and graduating at the Faculty of Engineering at Liverpool University in 1947, Mr Ucha was conscripted for two years National Service in The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) providing engineering support and responsibility for maintaining and repairing the Army’s vehicles. With this background and passion, no one was allowed to touch his pride and joy with upkeep exclusively his responsibility. In March 1991 Mr Ucha booked his vehicle into Drayton Mercedes-Benz main dealers for an inspection where they conclude with a speedo reading of 24,250 and on letter headed paper by the Director and General Manager, Chris Hughes that, ‘the vehicle was in as new condition’. The car moved with him for 30 years with various professional job roles and only used in perfect dry conditions for Sunday best and strictly garaged at all other times. This history is recalled in a six page hand written letter when the car was sold to the next custodian, Mr Terry Lacey.

Two original Mercedes keys are present along with a sales brochure and complement a file of historic MOT certificates, invoices, Mercedes-Benz Club literature and Agreed Valuation Certificates with the last in 2017 when the car was valued at £9000. There are no number plate holes in the front bumper. The black canvas hood is immaculate with the fully intact factory fitted Perspex rear screen perfectly clear. An instant success from Mazda upon UK launch in 1990, this very early example is one of the first and will delight the collector wanting the purist version.

INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior remains precisely as Mazda intended, and everything is co-ordinated perfectly. The high-backed seats offer great comfort and support, and show virtually no aging to the fabric. The seat structure including the bolsters are firm. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal-clear instruments that function precisely as does the factory removable Clarion CRH-70 radio cassette. The original leather trimmed steering wheel with white stitching is fully intact. Dealer accessory chrome vent bezels have been fitted. The original wheel brace, jack and toolkit are all present, as is the tonneau cover for which even the storage bag has been kept. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a low mileage and unspoilt Mk1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight. The lightweight 1.6 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. With 114bhp available, a top speed of 121mph and 0-60mph time of 8.7 seconds is achieved. The factory exhaust system with OEM stampings to the silencer and bright exhaust tip spot welded to the exit pipe remains fitted and in excellent condition. The engine bay is very clean with all factory plates and stickers intact, including the often-lost bonnet underside stickers. The thrilling close ratio five speed gearbox provides short and positive gear changes. Huge grin motoring guaranteed!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This unmodified example has its factory fitted 14 x 5.5j alloy wheels and correct Mazda centre caps, affectionately known as the ‘Daisy’ style. The wheels have never been refurbished and retain the correct textured inner spoke finish and clearly defined stampings. All rims are in excellent order with only a few faint markings, barely visible. Brand new Premium brand Dunlop SportBluResponse 185/60R14 tyres have just been fitted in February 2022. The unused space saver spare tyre still has the coloured banding visible. Ventilated front and solid rear discs install maximum braking confidence.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 11th April 1991, this early build UK example was supplied by Main Dealer, Lodge Garage Aylesbury Mazda. The first owner, Mr Davies, purchased the car and was offered the choice of either a front registration number sticker applied to the nosecone which was standard or an optional number plate and plinth. Mr Davies chose the sticker which still remains applied today! Mr Davies sold the car after 19 years of ownership at which point it had covered just 6,631 miles and an email in the history file confirms as such. Having the purchased the car from the latest owner, KGF Classic Cars contacted the first owner and spoke to with him about the car whereby he was pleased to hear how well cared for it remained and how low the mileage still is. His personalised plate is still fitted to the car.

The vehicle has covered a genuine 25,806 miles from new with full comprehensive service history to fully verify the mileage. The Mazda document wallet houses all handbooks, radio guides, manuals and dealership point of sale literature and the original service record booklet is present. A large folder contains Mazda Main Dealer and specialist service and maintenance invoices as well as previous MOT certificates. Completing the history is both original Mazda keys with supplying dealer fob and there is even an original January 1991 Mazda MX-5 sales brochure. Triumph Bonneville Silver Jubilee 750

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A stunning Triumph Bonneville Silver Jubilee 750 T140V with 3,592 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
To mark Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, Triumph who were otherwise known as the Meridan Motorcycle Co-operative, manufactured a special Silver Jubilee Edition of the Bonneville, technically the T140J, the J suffix denoting Jubilee. Only 1,000 units were produced for the UK, with a further 1,000 for the USA market following huge demand from the Americans. Demand still had not dwindled after 2,000 bikes had been produced and 400 more were made for international markets. All featured a colour scheme of metallic silver of course to correlate with the Jubilee with hand finished red, white and blue detailing to celebrate the Union Jack Flag. External engine covers were also chromed. An obvious difference between the US and home market machines were the fuel tanks whereby a slim teardrop tank was fitted to the US bikes while UK bikes had a 4.5 gallon ‘square tank’ with rubber knee pads. Each bike was issued with a Certificate Of Ownership and such was the success of the Silver Jubilee Edition that further special editions were produced including even the 1981 T140LE Royal Wedding Edition.

EQUIPMENT
All-welded oil-bearing large-tube backbone frame, unique Silver Jubilee Edition upside-down telescopic fork front suspension with 2-way hydraulic damping, swing arm rear suspension with twin Girling dampers, Silver Jubilee paint scheme with red, white and blue detailing, 4.5 gallon ‘square tank’, special edition side faring plaques and tank badge, offside mirror, engine stop switch, twin ‘King and Queen’ seat, chromed rear grab bar, steering lock, Smiths speedometer and rev counter, chromed choke lever, chromed lamp bowls, main and reserve fuel feeds.

EXTERIOR
One of only 1,000 UK bikes, this incredible example is preserved in factory original condition and has covered just 3,592 miles from new. The unrestored paintwork looks fantastic with only light natural aging commensurate with a low mileage and cosseted example. All hand applied red, blue and white detailing and pin-striping remains as per factory application and looks superb. The frame is in fine order with no visual evidence of repair work and the original stock frame number stamping is clearly legible which in turn correlates with the engine number of this matching numbers machine. Original pedal rubbers and grips have been retained after accurate replacements were sourced by the previous owner and absolutely all light fittings are original Lucas items. The unrestored chrome is very bright and in superb order aside from some very faint tarnishing to the rear grab handle and the light shroud stickers have faded. The side panel plaques proudly display the Silver Jubilee one of a thousand writing correct for an earlier build bike and the special ‘King and Queen’ dark blue vinyl seat with red piping is preserved factory fitment. A wonderful celebration of the Queens 25 years on the throne.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The beating heart of this formidable machine is the air-cooled 744cc OHV vertical twin with twin 30mm Amal carburettors and Lucas ignition developing 54hp at 5000rpm. Matching number credentials are verified with the engine number stamping clear. Correct for an earlier build example is the J (for Jubilee), stamped aside from the raised VIN block where the main number was sited as initially engines only stamped with the ‘J’ when fitted into a Jubilee frame whereas later Jubilee destined engine were stamped with the ‘J’ within the raised VIN block at the time of manufacture. Both twin exhausts are factory fitment with part number and Meridan Motorcycle Co-operative stamped into the attachment plate. The engine and transmission are totally standard and the five-speed gearbox operates well.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Unique chromed rims feature blue central painted band with white inner and red outer pinstriping. The rims are in excellent original condition with expected patina and correct Dunlop ribbed Roadmaster TT100 tyres show plenty of tread and are sized 4.40 H19 front and 4.10 H18 rear. The standard braking system feature front and rear single 254mm discs with one-piston calliper. The front disc is a replacement item and front calliper still has the original chromed Triumph shroud.

HISTORY FILE
Factory build records confirm that this UK example was made in March 1977 as denoted by the ‘CP’ prefix to both the frame and engine numbers, which in turn correlates with the bikes early build features. First registration was on the 11th November 1977 to Mr Talbot as confirmed by the original V5 registration document as well as the Certificate of Ownership naming Mr Talbot which importantly remains in the history file. The certificate was signed by the then Chairman of Meridan Motorcycles Limited, the much respected and now late Mr Denis Crowder Johnson, who joined Triumph Motorcycles as a 16-year-old in 1959.

The history file contains the original handbooks and a folder of invoices, MOT certificates and spare keys. The previous owner enjoys a collection of bikes including a Yamaha RD400 and modern Norton and after a long search for an original and unspoilt Bonneville Silver Jubilee Edition found this example. With the 2022 celebration of our Queens Platinum Jubilee, why not mark the occasion with this stunning 45-year-old celebration to mark her Silver Jubilee?!

HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in Swindon, England and build number R-10412, the car was first registered on 4th December 2007. Supplied as a UK car by Main Dealer, Holdcroft Honda of Stoke-on-Trent, this example has covered just 38,352 miles from new in the hands of enthusiast Father and Son owners from new. Mr Thompson Senior purchased the car new immediately after his first Type R was taken from him by thieves in a car park robbery. Unperturbed by his short-lived experience with his first car and despite protesting from his family, Mr Thompson defiantly ordered another example and this time ticked virtually every factory option, a true enthusiast! Upon acquiring a company car and wishing not to part with it, the car was retired to weekend usage and in 2016 the car was passed to his son who has owned it since.

A further history folder contains invoices and MOT certificates and the most recent service was carried out in February 2022 using genuine Honda parts.
