EXTERIOR
This fabulously frugal yet fun Nissan Micra epitomizes everything it was designed for, simplicity and basic economy motoring from a bygone era when even a passenger door mirror was a cost considered option! Once Britain’s best-selling one litre hatchback this prime example is finished in factory original Blue, (Code BG5). The paint finish looks amazing with a deep polished shine and only a few minuscule marks after 36 years. All factory fitted panels are straight with perfect panel seams and the underside and wheel arch apertures are very clean thanks to minimal use and indoor storage. The wrap around bumpers, colour keyed radiator and all trim is largely unmarked and the glass is number plate etched. Resplendently retro and utterly ordinary!
INTERIOR
Truly astonishing and near perfect in condition and function. The higher grade Grey Tricot seat trim, (Code G), is in pristine condition and entirely commensurate with 8,355 miles from new. The interior trim and door cards are in amazing condition as are the carpets and headlining. Remarkably the often-discarded sunroof stowage bag and sunshade panel remain with the car. The wonderfully basic dashboard houses a full array of working warning lights to detect such things as oil pressure and low brake fluid and the dealer optional Philips AC760 radio cassette functions. The boot area looks virtually unused with a bagged pouch for the wheel brace and handle and factory paint stamp marking on the spotless boot floor. Even the spare wheel plyboard cover is undamaged! The Micra may only be 12ft long but the cleverly shaped interior affords ample room for adults and their luggage for reliable retro outings!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Tremendous fuel economy and unfaltering reliability are assured with this 988cc engine producing 50bhp and 72Nm of torque. First flick of the key and the instantly recognisable engine note will stir up nostalgia and the driving characteristics of this fun little car which will certainly draw a smile! The under-bonnet area is very clean with all stickers and bulkhead chassis number stamping intact. The 4-speed gearbox is light, precise and an absolute joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory fitted steel wheels with delightfully miniscule Micra chrome centre caps are in immaculate order and brand-new premium Michelin MX 145 R12 tyres were fitted in July 2024 at a cost of £380. The spare wheel remains shod in the unused factory Dunlop tyre with chalk bands still visible. The servo assisted braking system with front disc brakes do an admirable job of stopping this car quickly and safely.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 13th June 1988 by Nissan Main Dealer, Surrell (Cambridge Limited), this delightful Micra has remained in the same family from new and covered a genuine 8,355 miles. Registered to husband and then wife, Mr and Mrs Berry, the car was then passed into ownership of their son Stephen Berry. A new car sales invoice confirms the price paid of £4,657.76 less part exchange allowance for a Nissan Sunny! In 2003, Mrs Berry ceased to drive the vehicle and thankfully had the foresight to ensure the car was stored in her dry, well-ventilated garage where it remained until July 2024. Mrs Berry’s son contacted KGF Classic Cars to discuss the sale of this family owned and ultra-low mileage classic and arrangement were made to inspect the car with a view to recover it. Immediately upon inspection, it was very apparent just how preserved and original the car was after 21 years of perfect storage. During the process of full recommissioning including major service, fuel system and ignition service, brake overhaul, cambelt and water pump, the car was found to have never been subject to structural repair work and still wore its factory fitted panels and original tyres!
The handbook, spare keys and a large file of invoices and previous MOT certificates form the history file along with an original sales brochure. Very difficult to find better and such great reliable retro fun!
