This factory standard and very late UK Mazda MX-5 is finished in stunning Classic Red, (Code SU), which looks fantastic and boasts a brilliant shine and deep polished finish. The amazing condition extends to perfectly preserved sills and rear wheel arches still showing defined factory spot weld dimples! The excellent underside condition is a welcome sight and all factory stickers remain affixed to the door apertures. All trim, exterior rubbers, glass, lights and badges are in brilliant order and there are a few touched-in chips to the front bumper and a tiny ding to the offside rear quarter, all barely noticeable. The windows are correctly security coded and the original black canvas hood is immaculate with the fully intact Perspex rear screen. An instant success from Mazda upon UK launch in 1990, this is one of the last NA examples and will delight the collector wanting the purist version.

INTERIOR
The bucket seats are trimmed in Black Cloth upholstery, (Code NA3), and this interior remains precisely as Mazda intended with everything co-ordinated perfectly. The high-backed seats offer great comfort and support and show virtually no aging to the fabric. The urethane steering wheel and gear knob have prominent veins thanks to the one owner low mileage credentials. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal-clear instruments that function precisely as does the dealer fitted Clarion ARB5070R radio cassette. The original wheel brace, jack and toolkit are all present along with the tonneau. HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 11th August 1997, this late build UK example was supplied by Main Dealer, Windsors Mazda in Merseyside. The first and only owner, Mr Clough, purchased the car for £14,680 after securing a £300 discount and specifying alloy wheels and a radio only. Garaged stored during his 27 years, early use gradually fizzled out with his advancing years but despite this, the car was annually submitted for an MOT to keep it fully road worthy and warrant the low 17,233 miles covered. An A4 folder neatly files all documents and invoices from early supplying Mazda main dealer service history to the latest service and cambelt carried out in December 2024. MODEL HISTORY
The Limited-Edition Mazda MX-5 Berkeley was introduced right at the very end of the production of the original Mk1 or NA Series of MX-5 and prior to the launch of the Mk2/NB Series. Available to the UK market exclusively and with just 400 limited edition cars produced, the model was a marketing collaboration with The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, London. All cars were finished in Sparkle Green metallic paint and the list price was £17,600 with little chance of a discount! Indeed, Mazda ran a competition whereby a weekend for two to stay at the famous Central London hotel could be won and the marketing literature featured a tear off competition entry slip to be posted off by eager entrants!

Number 355/400 is finished in the only available colour for the Berkeley Edition, Sparkle Green metallic, (Code 11R). The original hood is unmarked and two small touched-in marks are barely visible, one to the door edge and one to a rear mudguard. The underside and wheel arch apertures are extremely clean thanks to careful garage storage and fair weather use only. The original service books reveals 13 stamped entries from Mazda main dealers and independent specialists and the cambelt was last changed in November 2024. In June 1999, the Director purchased the car from the company for the sum of £8,000 as confirmed by an invoice in the history file and ownership has remained with her since new. The large history folder contains the all-important California document wallet housing all handbooks, guides, dealership point of sale literature and the service book. A separate file holds the original welcome letters from Mazda, MOT certificates dating back to the first in 1998 and all service invoices. The tailored MX5 over mats remain in place and protect the immaculate light carpeting. Incredibly, the paper factory labels that have usually fallen or been picked off remain in place on the centre console! HISTORY FILE
This amazing example was registered new by Mazda Main Dealers, Ilkeston Co-op Motor Group, on the 19th December 2003 to the first and only owner lady owner. The new vehicle sales invoice confirms the price paid of £16,300 less part exchange allowance for her 1998 Ford Escort. MODEL HISTORY
The Limited-Edition Mazda MX-5 Berkeley was introduced right at the very end of the production of the original Mk1 or NA Series of MX-5 and prior to the launch of the Mk2/NB Series. Available to the UK market exclusively and with just 400 limited edition cars produced, the model was a marketing collaboration with The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, London. All cars were finished in Sparkle Green metallic paint and the list price was £17,600 with little chance of a discount! Indeed, Mazda ran a competition whereby a weekend for two to stay at the famous Central London hotel could be won and the marketing literature featured a tear off competition entry slip to be posted off by eager entrants!

Number 293/400 has covered a warranted 21,541 miles from new and is preserved in outstanding unspoilt condition. The Sparkle Green metallic paint, (Code 11R), presents in fabulous condition with a stunning deep shine throughout. All bodywork panels are arrow straight and the underside, sills and wheel arches are structurally perfect. All Berkeley Limited Edition equipment is present and correct with the boot rack even still wearing the maximum load caution sticker! The original hood is as new and further total originality is found in the factory etched glass and supplying Mazda main dealer number plates. A critical eye will notice none other than very light markings to the plastic rear screen and a tiny shallow ding to the nearside front wing. The hugely desirable and expensive factory optional hard top is present with a few tiny marks and comes with the original wall mounting kit and cover for safe storage. One of the best remaining of the original 400 produced.

INTERIOR
Standard and unique to the Berkeley Limited Edition is the Black and light Grey leather seat facings with matching light Grey door panels (Code NA3). Commensurate with the low 21,541 miles covered, the interior is beautifully clean and the seats retain correct shape with no damage. Again, absolutely all Berkeley Limited Edition interior features are present including the numbered plaque, (293/400), Momo leather steering wheel and carpet mat set in excellent order. The dashboard wears the original dark Burr wood trim which has discoloured slightly to the edges and further special features such as the suspension brace bar and stainless-steel scuff plates are present with some markings. Unique to the Gleneagles special edition is the Classic leather upholstery in cream with matching door panels and fascia panel, (Code NA3). Commensurate with the incredibly low 12,901 miles, the sumptuous interior is beautifully clean and free from undue wear with central seat panels featuring ruched hide, exactly as it left the factory. Absolutely all Gleneagles special edition interior features are present and preserved including the perfect wood effect trim and Gleneagles Tartan. HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Mazda Main Dealer, Evans Halshaw of Birmingham, the car was registered on the 1st March 1996 to first owner, Mr Basketfield. All pre and point of sale documentation has been kept in the large history file and includes a fax from Mr Basketfield to the dealership whereby he agrees to buy their MX-5 Gleneagles special edition as well as the subsequent order form, sales invoice for £17,223.83 and customer vehicle delivery checklist. Mr Basketfield cherihed the car for over 21 years until 2017 when the second and only other owner, Mrs Mills, purchased the car.

The original Gleneagles Tartan document wallet and key holder are present and in immaculate condition, the latter still kept in its plastic sheath. All handbooks, guides and dealership literature including the service book are present along with both sets of keys with code tags and dealer fobs. EXTERIOR
This factory original, early and unmolested UK Mazda MX-5 is finished in stunning Classic Red, (Code SU), which looks fantastic and boasts brilliant uniform shine and deep polished finish. The original panels are pin straight and the amazing condition extends to perfectly preserved sills and rear wheel arches still showing defined spot weld dimples. The excellent underside condition is a welcome sight and all factory stickers remain affixed to the door apertures. Factory glass has MX5 Club stickers attached, all easily removed. All trim, exterior rubbers, glass, lights and badges are in brilliant order, even down to the front nearside Mazda bumper sticker only fitted to early cars and lost on many examples. Supplying Mazda Main Dealer number plates front and rear remain fitted including the front registration number sticker that was fitted as standard to only the earliest examples. There are no number plate holes in the front bumper. The black canvas hood is immaculate with the fully intact factory fitted Perspex rear screen perfectly clear. An instant success from Mazda upon UK launch in 1990, this very early example is one of the first and will delight the collector wanting the purist version.

INTERIOR
Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior remains precisely as Mazda intended, and everything is co-ordinated perfectly. The high-backed seats offer great comfort and support, and show virtually no aging to the fabric. The seat structure including the bolsters are firm. The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal-clear instruments that function precisely as does the factory removable Clarion CRH-70 radio cassette. The original leather trimmed steering wheel with white stitching is fully intact. Dealer accessory chrome vent bezels have been fitted. The original wheel brace, jack and toolkit are all present, as is the tonneau cover for which even the storage bag has been kept. The no frills driver focused concept perfected by Mazda is simply wonderful, and this example upholds that notion perfectly.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
To experience driving a low mileage and unspoilt Mk1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight. The lightweight 1.6 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive. With 114bhp available, a top speed of 121mph and 0-60mph time of 8.7 seconds is achieved. The factory exhaust system with OEM stampings to the silencer and bright exhaust tip spot welded to the exit pipe remains fitted and in excellent condition. The engine bay is very clean with all factory plates and stickers intact, including the often-lost bonnet underside stickers. The thrilling close ratio five speed gearbox provides short and positive gear changes. Huge grin motoring guaranteed!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This unmodified example has its factory fitted 14 x 5.5j alloy wheels and correct Mazda centre caps, affectionately known as the ‘Daisy’ style. The wheels have never been refurbished and retain the correct textured inner spoke finish and clearly defined stampings. All rims are in excellent order with only a few faint markings, barely visible. Brand new Premium brand Dunlop SportBluResponse 185/60R14 tyres have just been fitted in February 2022. The unused space saver spare tyre still has the coloured banding visible. Ventilated front and solid rear discs install maximum braking confidence.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 11th April 1991, this early build UK example was supplied by Main Dealer, Lodge Garage Aylesbury Mazda. The first owner, Mr Davies, purchased the car and was offered the choice of either a front registration number sticker applied to the nosecone which was standard or an optional number plate and plinth. Mr Davies chose the sticker which still remains applied today! Mr Davies sold the car after 19 years of ownership at which point it had covered just 6,631 miles and an email in the history file confirms as such. Having the purchased the car from the latest owner, KGF Classic Cars contacted the first owner and spoke to with him about the car whereby he was pleased to hear how well cared for it remained and how low the mileage still is. His personalised plate is still fitted to the car.

The vehicle has covered a genuine 25,806 miles from new with full comprehensive service history to fully verify the mileage.
