HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in October 1971, this vehicle has led the most incredible pampered existence with absolute enthusiasts. Highly regarded and registered with the both the AVO Owners Club and RS Owners Club, this example has won many prestigious awards during the 1980’s and 1990’s and is both an AVO National Day winner and RSOC National Day winner. Photos in the history file of the car at many events with trophies are a testament to the outstanding condition still witnessed today some 38 years later! A feature in Fast Ford magazine dated August 1990 about long-term custodian, Les Harris, who has known the car from new when delivered to Ford RS Dealers, Whites of Taunton where he worked as a Ford mechanic. He recalls fellow mechanic and workshop foreman, Walter Miller, buying the car new and always wanted to be the next owner knowing it had always been serviced by Walter at the Ford main dealer. Les took the car to a concours level and after winning the Concours d ’Elegance at Longleat Ford Spectacular it was used to illustrate Graham Robson’s classic Ford feature. Historic photos, AVO Owners Club valuation, MOT certificates, book packs and brochures are just a few of the documents included along with a few valuable awards. The most recent agreed valuation is dated December 2018 for £60,000 and was last sold by KGF Classic Cars in 2023 now fully prepared for the next lucky custodian.

EXTERIOR
Having been in the ownership of two family members since new, this unrestored example has covered just 26,377 miles and remains in astonishing original condition. A Special Edition model, these were offered in just two choices of Tu-Tone metallic paint, Crystal Blue over Strato Silver or in this case, Strato Silver over Mercury Grey, (Code LX8). The exceptionally beautiful paintwork is factory original throughout and gleams with just a few minor touch-ins mainly to the rear bumper, left to uphold absolute originality. All body panels are factory fitment and pin straight with uniform shut lines and the underside/wheelarch apertures are incredibly clean with no metal fatigue. The original Blue-toned hood is pristine with no fading or fold cracks thanks to strict garage storage since new. The colour-keyed hood cover is present and as new. Factory Sigla glass and Carello head/driving lamps and Ford light fittings remain fitted throughout. An exceptionally well cared for example, preserved as Ford intended.

INTERIOR
A fun and practical option of retro soft-top motoring with space for five and a generous boot! The sports seats trimmed with unique Special Edition blue Daytona fabric trim, (Code SF), are spotlessly clean and show a distinct lack of wear to be expected of such a low mileage example. Door card shrinkage is very common for the model, yet thankfully there virtually no evidence on this example and the often-scratched inner door handles are pristine. The dashboard and switchgear are in superb order and all functions and controls operate including the standard Ford radio/cassette with electric aerial and the roof mounted digital clock. A clean and utterly unspoilt interior complete with a set of genuine rubber Ford ‘waffle’ mats.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A delightfully crisp, responsive and free-revving 1.6 OHC (CVH) engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection produces 105bhp to achieve 0-60mph in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 115mph. The engine bay is show-worthy clean, and the real wow factor is the complete originality seen throughout the rest of the car. Factory stickers and labels remain intact and bright as do both the VIN and body plates. Date and Ford oval stamps as well as factory seam sealer assure you these are the original front wings. The car performs brilliantly and the replacement yet standard exhaust system hasn’t lost the characteristic rasp! The five-speed gearbox is light and precise and aids the enthusiastic driving XR owners are known for.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Special Edition came with alloy wheels as standard, and these unrestored rims are in excellent condition with a few tiny markings, hardly worthy of mention. Brand new matching Dunlop Sport Blue Response 185/65 R14 tyres were fitted in August 2026 to all four road wheels and originality seekers will be delighted to see the spare wheel that has never been used still wearing the factory Dunlop SP tyre still with coloured banding and nobbles intact! Clipped inside the spare wheel is the unused jack and brace with original soft square protection pads. The diagonally split dual-line servo assisted brakes stop the car straight and quickly.

HISTORY FILE
Produced in October 1987 and registered new on the 25th March 1988 by Ford Main Dealer, Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham, the car was purchased by Mr Launchbury who purchased through his business, Promanco Ltd. After nine months he registered the car to himself and in 1993 it was sold to his brother-in-law, Mr Lambert, who has owned the car ever since. Utterly fanatical about the car, Mr Lambert personalised the number plates with his initials, and it was kept strictly in an integral heated garage. The luxury of being a leisure car only meant it was only used in dry conditions and these cosseting ownership traits are wholly evident in the cars condition. Only no due to ill-health is the car being offered for sale.

In July 2026 the car received a major service using genuine Ford parts where possible and the cambelt and water pump was also renewed at this point. All handbooks are included along with the original service book as well as a Special Edition Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet sales brochure. A further illustration of this cars pampered life is the fact it has never had a single MOT failure or even an advisory! With just 26,377 miles from new and in original condition, this car will appeal to the Blue Oval collector looking for one of the finest preserved examples.

HISTORY FILE
Focus RS Mk1 factory build records reveal that this example was built on 19th May 2003 as Build Number 3260. Registered new on the 6th June 2003 by Ford Main Dealers, C.D. Bramall Motors Ltd of Hull, this example has had just two former keepers from new. A new car sales invoice confirms the first owner, Mr Neil Wilson, paid £19,994.99 for the car and almost exactly a year later the second registered keeper, Mr Parr, purchased the car for slightly more money! Ford experts will notice the pink throttle cable grommet, start button sticker and plastic covers at the base of the rear seats, features of the unofficially named later phase 2 cars, and yet the front seats without double stitching as per the earlier build examples.

All original handbooks, guides and special RS supplement are contained within the Ford leather RS wallet and there are ten stamped entries in the service book, the last being a Ford Main Dealer service in July 2026. This last service also included a cambelt and the four figure invoice is neatly filed in the large history file as proof of maintenance. Even the original welcome letters have been kept! Two keys are present along with the RS fobs with broken hoops. A huge file of receipts and Ford invoices detail all servicing and maintenance work along with virtually every MOT certificate from the very first in 2006 to warrant the mileage. An amazing example and one for the connoisseur.

This highly desirable run out 90-Spec model is finished in iconic Diamond White, (Code B 3), a colour synonymous with the RS model and Fast Fords. There are numerous differences between and 88 and 90-spec cars, albeit there are some 88-spec crossover cars that had some features from the 90-spec. The notable changes for 90-spec cars include front bumpers with larger scalloped air intakes, larger rear spoiler with down-swept side fins, and boot decals in hollow font to contrast the early 88-spec solid font. This car has covered a genuine and fully warranted 12,420 miles from new and remains in absolute original condition. The paintwork is simply exceptional throughout with no scuffs, dings or imperfections worthy of mention. All factory panels are pin straight with even shut lines and spotless door apertures. Further remarkable originality is seen in the supplying dealer branding that extends to the number plates, front and rear screen stickers, tax disc holder and even a small boot badge! It is abundantly clear that the dealer showed strong pride in their branding! All Sekurit glass has the Ford Security System and number plate etching which also extends to the Carello headlamps and rear clusters. The underside and wheel arch apertures are incredibly original. Near impossible to find in such an unmolested condition, this is as close to production line accuracy as you are likely to find.

INTERIOR
Interior revisions for the 90-spec, again with some examples of 88-spec crossover, include seat upholstery with Zolda replacing Roma fabric, revised headlining with addition of rear courtesy light, extended centre console to incorporate handbrake surround, fuel and temperature gauges swapped around, addition of intermittent wipers, and Quickclear heated front screen as standard. The interior of this super-low mileage Escort RS Turbo is near perfect and remains exactly as Ford intended. The supportive Recaro seats show virtually no wear to the Zolda fabric, (Code LM). Matching door cards are in superb condition with no shrinkage or plastic fatigue to the inner door handles, an issue affecting many an example. The headlining is tight with no damage and spotless carpets are preserved with complete fullness to the pile. All switches, knobs and dials function correctly including the Ford Self-Seek Model 2005 stereo radio/cassette and overhead console digital clock. Both the sports steering wheel and gear knob show great definition thanks to the miniscule miles and the boot area is spotless. A truly magnificent example of this legendary RS Ford.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1.6 OHC (CVH) fuel injected engine with a Garrett AiResearch T3 turbo charger and intercooler is completely factory standard. Producing 132bhp in such a lightweight car, the 0-60mph sprint is dealt with in 8.2 turbo induced seconds and a top speed of 128mph. Genuine Motorcraft/Fomoco service parts are visible including oil and fuel filters and the genuine Ford battery cover remains. The pristine engine bay displays all plates, labels and stickers. A lesser know 90-spec revision is the deeper inner wing profile which in turn allows a deeper expansion tank to be fitted. The 5-speed manual gearbox is light and precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The instantly recognisable RS Turbo alloy wheels are virtually immaculate with clearly defined part number and size stamping often lost upon refurbishment. Goodyear Eagle NCT 195/50 R15 tyres are fitted along with the spare. This Fast Ford icon stops as well as it goes with the ABS braking system designed in conjunction with Lucas Girling working perfectly.

HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in June 1990 at the Saarlouis assembly plant in Germany and registered new on the 3rd September 1990 by main dealers, Hartford Motors (Grimsby) Ltd, this fabulous example has covered a fully verified 12,420 miles with two former keepers. The original Ford Cares leather wallet holds all handbooks, the original service book and radio guides and there are three sets of keys including the master and code tags. A 1990 RS range brochure is also included and both the initial Ford fitted and updated Sigma alarm fobs are present. A full service using genuine Ford parts where possible was carried out in June 2026 and the cambelt was renewed in July 2023 at 12,041 miles with supporting invoice. With such amazing credentials combined with the impeccable condition, this RS icon will appeal to those wanting one of the very best of the desirable 90-spec cars.

Ford Escort RS Cosworth

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A rare Ford Escort RS Cosworth Big Turbo with one owner and 12,556 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship. It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), group. It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann. In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth. An extremely rare car with only 2,500 homologation Big Turbo units out of a total of just 7,145 produced. (Source Wikipedia, 1995 Edition One RS Brochure and the RS Owners Club).

EQUIPMENT
Body colour front bumper with black lower extension, front airdam, louvred bonnet air intakes, wing air extraction grilles, integral driving lights and fog lights, padded armrest with cassette storage, oil pressure gauge, turbo gauge, voltmeter, quartz digital clock with ambient temperature, electro-luminescent dials. Lux Model Equipment: Electrically operated and heated door mirrors, sunroof – tilt or slide with louvered blind, ‘Quickclear’ heated windscreen and washer jets, front Recaro seats with lumbar support, seat back map pockets, rear centre armrest, rear head restraints, electric windows, opening rear quarter vents. Factory Options: Premium Sound System – Model 2008. Dealer Options: Vecta alarm, (Disconnected), Sterling imobiliser, Tracker, Ford Extra Cover, (Expired).

EXTERIOR
With 200 hours detail development in Fords own Cologne wind tunnel, the rally-bred innovation of this model is instantly recognised. Finished in the ultra-rare Escort Cosworth launch colour of Polaris Grey, (Code N 2), the finish can be described as impeccable. The three-position front adjustable splitter is undamaged along with all other sophisticated downforce enhancing spoilers and the underside is spotlessly clean. The colour-coded fuel filler cap and large door mirrors of early Big Turbo cars along with every other factory Big Turbo detail is correct. This one owner Escort Cosworth is a showstopper.

INTERIOR
The interior of this early Escort RS Cosworth Lux Edition is exactly as Ford intended. The Recaro seats finished in the Polaris Grey Hex cloth, (Code LW), are divine with a fullness and shape only witnessed on low mileage examples never exposed to ultraviolet light. The desirable early leather covered steering wheel with three horn buttons remains fitted and the grey headlining is slightly loose in areas. Being one of the first 2500 cars, the pristine boot area still has the water injection kit never plumbed in and unused to comply with homologation rules. Most were removed by the Ford dealer to avoid customer confusion! The optional Premium Sound System Model 2008 is fully operational in this collector grade example and a rearview mirror display board is included.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The powerful and well proven Cosworth 2.0 litre 16v turbocharged YBT engine features the larger Garrett AiResearch T3/T04B turbocharger with a 2-stage water/air plus air/air intercooler together with an electronically regulated over-boost facility. Being an early car it is also fitted with the desirable Weber-Marelli-programmed injection/ignition. The blue painted cam cover denotes a number of significant changes over the older YBG unit of the Sierra RS Cosworth and power is quoted at 225bhp with 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph. The permanent Ferguson four-wheel-drive system with an epicyclic centre differential gives a 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT75 5-speed gearbox which is a formidable combination.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS 8 X 16” five soft-spoke alloy wheels built by Ronal have a few insignificant marks and are still shod in the correct Pirelli P Zero tyres, which were specially developed for the Escort RS Cosworth. Due to age, it is recommended these are preserved and replacements fitted for road use. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs with hydraulic high pressure assistance, offer immense stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
If being a one registered owner Ford Escort RS Cosworth with a documented 12,556 miles were not astonishing attributes in themselves, how about this example being one of just 45 RHD homologation models made in Polaris Grey?! (Source RS Owners Club). This desirable Big Turbo model was built in August 1992 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new on the 16th November 1992 by Henlys Ford of Newcastle. Genuine Motorcraft service parts are visible including red Ford plug leads and fuel filter and the bonnet sound deadening with foil heatshield is fully intact. The super clean engine bay displays all plates, labels and stickers. Some tarnishing to the slam panel is visible but has been left untreated to uphold originality. An expensive bespoke full stainless-steel exhaust, sympathetic in size to the original system, has been fitted. A major service, water pump and cambelt was carried out in June 2026 as well as a new battery and the original turbo professionally reconditioned. The 5-speed manual gearbox is light and precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The instantly recognisable RS Turbo alloy wheels are stunning with insignificant tiny marks and clearly defined part numbers and size stampings often lost upon refurbishment. Four matching premium Goodyear 195/50 R15 tyres are fitted retaining excellent tread. HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in September 1988 at the Saarlouis assembly plant in Germany and registered new on 6th March 1989 by Ford Main Dealers, KT Group in Dartford, this fabulous example has covered a warranted 64,170 miles from new. The first owner, Mr Pearce, clearly wanted to preserve and protect his purchase and hence chose an expensive alarm system as well as sophisticated preservation treatments for rustproofing and upholstery care. In 1993 the car was sold to the second owner who went on to have the car for 28 years. Mr Crooks was fanatical about the car and the condition and originality is testament to his pride in the car. From the start of his ownership, he kept a detailed maintenance log which remains upheld today, and it was not until 2022 that he made the difficult decision to sell the car to a good friend.

The very neatly organised history file dates to when the car was new with handover packs for the Truseal and Trufab treatments as well as the fitting of the alarm system. A comprehensive file of service records and MOT certificates fully verify the mileage and even historic tax discs have been neatly mounted! The supplying dealer branded document wallet holds handbooks, the original service book and spare keys. Even a Ford RS range sales brochure is included! This RS icon will appeal to those wanting a real rarity, an unspoilt and unmodified example fit for exhilarating outings and classic car shows.

HISTORY FILE
This absolute treasure of a Mk1 Ford Fiesta Van was supplied by Ford main dealer, Hartford Motors (Oxford Ltd), and their commercial division on the 1st June 1980. Only having two owners from new, John Hughes and his daughter, Phidda Hughes. As a civil engineer, Mr Hughes insisted on a double coating of underseal when new well aware of the problems of rust and taking a precautionary approach. The vehicle was used for very light duties for transporting boxes of wood products that he manufactured as a hobby for local customers around the Kidlington area. Always placing blankets in the cargo area before setting off on a journey. Unfortunately, Mr Hughes had a major stroke and was severely disabled for the last seven years of this life and the vehicle was subsequently transferred into his daughter care who has remained the devoted custodian ever since. A neat A4 file contains all documents, previous V5 registration certificates and recent expenditure proving absolute provenance and maintenance works. A letter from Ms Hughes tracks the history for the next enthusiast to cherish. All handbooks, the original service book, van sales brochure and Ford Fiesta Van operating guide are included. A set of keys are on a worn supplying dealer leather key fob. Only physical inspection and test drive of this incredible example allows you to appreciate just how special this survivor is and perhaps even with the bragging rights of being rarer than an Supersport or XR2?
