The boxy shape of this iconic Citroen BX, penned by Bertone, is the ultimate 80’s throwback and represents a time when Citroen just did everything different. The BX 14 Series featured a range of three cars with the 1.4 petrol engine, this Leader model being mid-specification. Finished in Citroen Blanc, (Code EWT), the bodywork is beautifully straight with a superb unform finish. The lightweight plastic body panels are completely intact as is all trim, glass lights and badges. The first owner requested the supplying dealer to remove the Leader decals from the sides as confirmed on the vehicle order form still in the history file. Some light imperfections to the rear bumper are visible along with some touched-in marks. Supplying dealer branded number plates, tax disc holder and Total rear screen sticker adds a lovely touch of authenticity. A marvellous slice of Citroen quirkiness!

INTERIOR
Typical Gallic soft furnishings and sumptuous comfort are found in this brilliant BX. The Chequered Cloth upholstery is beautifully clean with no rips or holes and only slight stretching to the fabric on the front seats has occurred. The fascia, door cards, carpet and headlining are all in super condition although one astray lid is missing in the rear door armrest. All controls and functions operate perfectly including the optional Sharp AN55 stereo cassette. The 1360cc engine as fitted to all BX 14 Series models is the renowned TU Series unit developing 72bhp and 109Nm or torque. In a car with an unladen weight of just 900kg, top speed is quoted at 101mph while 0-60mph is achieved in 13.4 seconds. The engine bay is very clean and still has the slam panel stickers and offside wing lip chassis stamp as well as the nearside inner wing paint code clearly visible. Having covered just 28,939 miles from new and cared for by Citroen specialists, every aspect of the car is in prime working condition including the perfectly operating suspension system to offer an exceptional, unique and fun driving experience! The five-speed gearbox is light and easy to use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory fitted wheels and hubcaps are fully intact and in superb order and all four tyres are matching quality brand 165/70 R14 fitted new in 2021 with minimal mileage covered. The power operated braking system with outboard discs front and rear offer excellent stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 20th April 1989 by Citroen Main Dealer, Pat Wilson & Co of Plymouth, this outstanding example has covered just 28,939 miles from new. The comprehensive history file began even before the car was registered and when prospective first owner, Mrs Stearn, had telephoned her local Citroen dealer to enquire about buying a new BX. A letter to her from the subsequent supplying dealer enclosed a quotation and days later the order was put in. The original new car order form specifies the dealer options as well as Mrs Stearns adamant request that the Leader decals be removed from the sides! This request was duly obeyed and the following new vehicle invoices confirms £6,644.00 paid for the car.

The car has been very well maintained throughout its life by Citroen Main Dealers and marque specialists, more so in recent years by highly respected Chevronics in Hitchin. In just the last two years comprehensive servicing and maintenance has been carried out to include timing belt in November 2021 and the suspension system with recent invoices for this period totalling over £3,500. The most recent service at Chevronics was carried out in July 2023. The large file of invoices dates back to 1990 when the first service was carried out and MOT records date back to the very first in 1992. The full Citroen book pack is present along with two keys and even an original Citroen BX 14 Series sales brochure. A true delight to traditional Citroen fanciers and without question, one of the best BX driving experiences you can get with very few factory correct examples remaining.

Citroen 2CV AZU Fourgonnette

SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A rare and magnifique 1958 Citroen 2CV AZU Fourgonnette.

MODEL HISTORY
Conceived by an extraordinary design brief by Citroen MD Pierre-Jules Boulanger in 1936 to enable four farmers to drive 50 kg of farm goods to market at 31mph in and across muddy unpaved roads if necessary. The car would use no more than 3 litres of fuel to travel 100 km (78 mpg). Most famous, was the requirement be able to drive across a ploughed field while carrying eggs without breaking them! The TPV (Toute Petite Voiture – Very Small Car) project was abandoned in September 1939 when the French government declared war on Germany. Finally revealed in 1948 the Deux Chevaux was an instant commercial success with a five-year waiting list and second-hand Tin Snails costing more than new ones! Numerous variants of the 2CV in its 42-year production run included the AZU Fourgonnette (Van) which was a familiar sight for many years and commonly used by the French Post Office ‘La Poste’ and EDF (Électricité de France).

EQUIPMENT
Steel corrugated body panels, twin side-hinged rear doors, rear hinged side doors with openers, spare wheel compartment, rear grab handles, triple side rear glass panes, nearside door mirror, steel slatted grille with chevon emblem, mudguard flaps, one rear light, side repeaters, rear reflectors, removable seats, batterie gauge, headlamp adjustment control knob, pull starter, choke, column mounted Jaeger speedometer with gear change markings, horn, speedometer driven wipers with manual override, scuttle ventilator, sun visors, rear view mirror.

EXTERIOR
Wonderfully simplistic this 2CV AZU Fourgonnette A-Series has had a full restoration which can be seen from every angle. Correct to the original factory build, virtually every body panel bar the front wings, front doors and A-panels have the corrugated construction which was an ingenious design by Citroen to add strength to allow ultra-thin steel for weight saving purposes. A spotless underside reveals perfect structural integrity and the Grey bodywork looks fantastic with some markings, touched in scratches, and imperfections but far superior to most commercial vehicles. The obvious build methods falling far short of modern-day manufacturing excellence, verging on the hilarious, just as they rolled off the production line! The one tail light and rear reflectors resonate with a simpler motoring era designed for the masses and suicide doors enable easy access. The six side windows were a feature of many ‘Weekend’ conversions and the original GLAQauto Securite etched panes remain with new rubbers fitted. The grille logo comprising the famous chevrons and single door mirror remain intact. A truly delightful example of this Gallic icon.

INTERIOR
Utilitarian brilliance is demonstrated everywhere from the surprisingly comfortable removable seats with tubular steel frames and rubber band springing to the cable/hand operated windscreen wipers! The Jaeger batterie gauge still functions as does Veglia speedometer. The grey steering wheel is correct for a post 1957 vehicle as is the presence of a speedometer light for post 1954 and side repeater post 1955 production. The rubber mat is easily lifted allowing all laid bare metal flooring to be visible thus revealing the quality workmanship below. The Fourgonnette cargo area is finished to the same exterior standard as is the clever side compartment containing the spare wheel. A most intelligent application of minimalism in vehicle design, or more simply, a brilliantly method of transporting one’s baguette, wine and cheese!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The air-cooled, flat-twin, four-stroke 425cc engine is the original factory unit as fitted to this 1958-year model complete with AZU stamped engine plate with number clearly legible. The wonderfully clean engine has block stampings as well as the original numbered chassis plate which again corresponds with a 1958 AZU Fourgonnette. Prime the carburettor and the engine thrums into life at the pull of the switch and settles to a surprisingly smooth idle ready to exploit the ferocious 12.5hp performance! The transmission is dash mounted and has fours speeds which are easy to use once the uniqueness is familiarised.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five correct grey steel wheels support expensive Michelin 135R 400 tyres all round with masses of tread and no cracks. The front inboard drum brakes and rear drums make this car slightly slower than the speed it eventually reaches.

HISTORY FILE
A copy of the Certificat D’Immatriculation (registration certificate) confirms first registration in the Billy Commune in the Allier Department, Central France on the 21st March 1958. The first registered owner was an Andre Fillion whose profession was very fittingly noted as a Cultivateur (Farmer)! The car remained in France for over 60 years and following a full restoration it was imported to the UK by the only UK owner, a gentleman also fittingly named Mr French! This 2CV is fully UK registered as a Historic Vehicle but prior to leaving France it was fully restored by Mark Griffin who has been a 2CV restoration specialist for over 40 years and is well known to the Citroen Car Club and 2CVGB. Highly respected and well-known within the 2CV fraternity, Mr Griffin is enthusiastically applauded by the UK’s leading Citroen Guru and Chairman of 2CVGB. Photographs of the restoration are held in the history file.

The current owner, Mr French, sourced the car from Mark Griffin in 2018 having searched for a long time for the right vehicle. Mr French had always wanted a 2CV Fourgonnette having had fond memories of childhood holidays to Northern France where these vans were a common sight, many in Grey! Wanting to concentrate on his motorbike collection, Mr French having now scratched his Fourgonnette itch has decided to sell the vehicle to the next lucky custodian who will certainly appreciate this magnifique example.

The factory optional automatic gearbox is perfect in operation and offers even more serene cruising.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 25th August 1994 by Citroen UK Ltd, Slough, the car was then sold to the only other owner, Mr Bryan Cedar when it was just four months old. He cherished the vehicle and the exceptional condition and low mileage of just 21,806 are very special credentials to car collectors. An impressive history folder containing a huge number of main dealer and Citroen specialist invoices to document the fastidious ownership this car has enjoyed. Every MOT certificate dating back to the first in 1997 further validates the mileage and the full Citroen book pack with service booklet is present. There are two Citroen remote keys plus master key and dealer fobs. HISTORY FILE
Production of the Citroen Saxo came to an end in 2003 with the final run of cars being the VTR/VTS models, the last of which rolled off the production line in September 2003.  This very late example was registered on 24th October 2003 by Citroen Main Dealer John Wilding Ltd of Morecambe.  The first and only registered owner, Mrs Rena Eastwood, was in her sixties when she purchased the car brand new, citing that she wanted something fun and fast!  After covering just 29,751 miles from new and owning the car for almost 15 years, Mrs Eastwood is now in her eighties and sadly ill health has brought about the difficult decision to sell her pride and joy.  Mrs Eastwood, a fascinating lady, is able to reel off important information about the car’s history with amazing detail, and it was her strict insistence that the car was always garaged, to the detriment of her husbands Mercedes which remained outside!  The condition, driving manner and history is a huge credit to her love and dedication for her VTR, it was her wish that the car was sold to an enthusiast which is exactly what KGF Classic Cars did in 2018 selling into a formidable collection of modern classic cars and we are delighted to have the car back to sell to the next discerning buyer.

The history file includes the full Citroen document wallet containing all handbooks, guides and point of sale literature as well as the service book with 10 stamps and original purchase invoice.  Absolutely every MOT certificate is included.  A large file of invoices completes the history file along with both sets of keys and the key code tag.  Representing a very rare example of an often modified and abused hot hatch, this amazing and hugely entertaining Saxo VTR is without doubt one of the best in existence.
