EXTERIOR
This 1980 R100RT is quite outstanding in that it still wears its factory original Red Smoke (Dunklerot) paint finish featuring air-brushing and hand painted gold pin-striping. In stark contrast to most examples having been repainted, this example is absolutely original and bares a few well-earned touring mementos in the form of scratches and markings to the tank and faring’s. Most noticeable is light damage on the front faring to the right of the headlight and some of the hand finished pinstriping has worn thin. The decision to leave all imperfections untreated is understandable when the amazing originality of this bike is considered. Further noteworthy features include original BMW foot peg and hand grip rubbers, supplying dealer numberplate and every single light lens being the factory BMW stamped fitment. The large seat is original and both lockable BMW saddlebags, which in turn lock to the bike, are in superb order. Even the BMW first aid kit has been kept in place under the seat along with the air pump! A beautifully built machine.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The matching numbers 980cc air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine featuring twin Bing constant velocity carburettors, push-button starter and engine kill switch develops 70bhp. The engine is nestled in the original frame which is in superb order and has never been damaged or repaired and the alloy engine casings and ancillaries are in fine cosmetic and working order. The original Bing carburetors fed from twin fuel feeds remain fitted and the engine bursts into life at first request. The sturdy five speed one down four up transmission controls the enclosed shaft drive set up and all transmission aspects perform as it should.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original pressure die-cast alloy wheels of size 2.15B x 19 front and 2.75C x 18 rear are in very good unrestored condition with no rim damage and some light age-related tarnishing, more so to the rear wheel. Replacement Continental 3.25-19 front and 4.00-18 rear tyres have plenty of tread and excellent rubber condition. The braking system is well maintained and features double 260mm front perforated discs with floating callipers and single 260mm perforated rear disc with correct floating Brembo calliper which has just been replaced.

HISTORY FILE
This matching numbers BMW R 100 RT was registered new on the 1st March 1980 by BMW main agent, Hughenden M40 in Oxfordshire, to first owner Mr Heyne. The history file consists of paperwork pertaining to service and maintenance including from when a previous owner rode the bike to France and kept it at his holiday home. The service booklet is present along with the original keys, a 1970-1996 2-valve Twins manual and some old photographs of the bike. The previous owner purchased the bike in 2017 and instructed a specialist to fully inspect and service the bike which included the fitting of new tyres. The decision to sell the bike is due to an ever growing and eclectic collection of classic cars which has now got to a ‘one in one out’ basis. The acquisition of a low mileage MGF from KGF Classic Cars has necessitated the sale of the BMW.

This beautifully built, totally original and preserved classic tourer will delight the next lucky owner in every respect.

HISTORY FILE
A fascinating history. When Mr T Ibbott visited his local dealer, Sycamore BMW in Peterborough to order his unique specification 330iSE he was disappointed with the insistence that he would be well advised to order the 330 MSport model instead due to the options chosen. The importance placed on the chrome window surround, a N/A option on the MSport, was ignored and he left disgruntled. On discovery that he could order exactly what he wanted with no quibbling direct from a German BMW main dealer to UK specification and save a considerable sum of money on the list price too, resulted in the order being promptly placed and this example being first registered as a new car on the 5th April 2002. A specification printout confirms all the unique options and importantly, Option Code 0812, National Version Great Britain. Mr Ibbott cherished the car and on his passing ownership transferred to his wife who remained the custodian until 2015 when she eventually part-exchanged the car at Crowsons of Spalding, a main VW Dealer believing a smaller car would be more suitable. A vehicle much older than VW would normally retail as an Approved Car, the condition and mileage of just 13,625 resulted in an exception being made, and the car was soon snapped up by enthusiast, Daniel North once on the forecourt. Daniels dedication for the car was unrivalled working full-time at a prestigious franchise as a valeter, his knowledge on how to keep the car immaculate is clearly evident!

All handbooks, spare keys and MOT certificates are present along with a number of service sheets. The previous keeper has written his account of ownership since 2015.
