EXTERIOR
Rarely does such a special car become available to the true enthusiast. This Volvo 480 Celebration, one of only 480 made to commemorate the 480 Model that was first introduced in 1987, has covered a remarkably low 15,755 miles from new! Finished in one of just three colours available, Burgundy Red Metallic, (Code 322), this example boasts the originality of first paint and looks incredible. The factory panels are pin straight with no dings whatsoever and the paint is virtually blemish free, a testament to the low mileage, garage storage and quality Volvo finish. The underside is also exceptionally well preserved and the light clusters retain their correct tint with a few stress lines. Volvo supplying main dealer number plates and rear screen sticker remain fitted and all glass and lenses display factory labels and security etching. There is some ageing to the original front window weather strips. Further delight for the Volvo aficionado is the green keyhole light functioning as it should when the door handle is lifted to help guide the key in when it is dark! A uniquely styled and quirky modern classic boasting pinnacle collector credentials.
INTERIOR
Without wishing to use the narrative loosely, it is fair to say the interior condition is near perfect. As close to a 1995 showroom example as is possible and entirely standard. The ruched two-tone grey leather upholstery, (Code 2346) is spotless and displays virtually no wear. The carpeting is pristine, as are all other trim sections including the headlining. The rare luggage roller blind with the Volvo logo remains as does the jack and wheel brace in the blue Volvo bag. The Celebration model has as standard air conditioning and a Philips DC942 CD/radio and importantly, a fully operational graphic information centre with all switchable functions working perfectly. The highest level of comfort, condition and factory preservation.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original B 20 F 1998cc petrol engine with computer controlled fuel injection offers 110bhp at 5500rpm and 165Nm torque at 3500rpm to achieve an impressive top speed of 119mph and 0-62mph in 9.8 seconds. The engine bay is beautifully clean and displays factory labels and panels stamps. The five-speed manual gearbox is tight and precise and altogether this super low mileage example performs impeccably and is impressively swift.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 15in six spoke alloys wheels are flawless with no scuffs or damage whatsoever and the factory Goodyear Eagle NCT 2 195/55 R15 tyres remain fitted for absolute originality. The pristine boot area with Volvo roller blind houses the unused space saver spare wheel along with the original jack which has also never been taken out! The ABS brakes featuring discs all round feel assured and bring the car up to a straight and steady halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 14th September 1995 by Volvo Main Dealer, Mill Garages of Newcastle, this car is one of just 480 Celebration models made and has covered an incredibly low 15,755 miles from new. Purchased brand new by the first lady owner who kept the car until her passing in 2012, the car was only discovered when the house was sold to a family friend, Mr Michael Kirby, who didn’t realise it was in the garage! The family found it too hard to deal with and asked Mr Kirby to dispose of the car however he saw fit. After owning the car for just over a year, he was able to offer it to a friend who happened to be an ex-Volvo Master Technician at the supplying Volvo Main Dealer who worked on 480’s when they are new! Mr Shaun Whitfield bought the car in April 2013 and has owned it ever since. Known as the ‘480 Man’ at Mill Garages of Newcastle, there is nothing Mr Whitfield does not know about these cars and his knowledge and enthusiasm is mighty impressive.
Peace of mind is assured with a Type A service carried out in January 2019 at 15,615 miles and cambelt and water pump change at 8,080 miles, both documented. The history file incudes two Volvo keys and a 480 Celebration sales brochure. This unrestored, unmolested and super low mileage example is one of the best surviving example in existence.
