EXTERIOR
A regular Concours D’Elegance entrant and current 2026 Class Winner at the Stanford Hall VW Show, this example is proven to be one of the very best in existence. Finished in stunning Clementine, (Code L20D), the paintwork is virtually unmarked and certainly the judge’s latest score sheet affirms this, scoring 19/20 for paintwork and panel condition. Genuine and rare VW accessories are fitted adding to the uniqueness of this special car and are the envy of VW collectors worldwide such as the reflective strips on the running boards. The underside is equally amazing, especially considering the long-term custodians insisted on the car being driven everywhere, making it even more remarkable. Add to the mix this being a sought-after Super Beetle, does it get much better?

INTERIOR
Amazing in all respects with the optional high back seats in black leatherette being spotless. Tilting the drivers seat forward will reveal hidden marks to the base, barely worthy of mention. Loaded with genuine VW accessories and with all controls fully operational, this example is a real joy. Practical too, having a larger luggage compartment thanks to the Super Beetle having a redesigned transverse link front axle with suspension struts and the spare wheel fitted flush, it is nearly twice as large as the 1200 and 1300 models. The optional Grundig radio remains fitted and the colour coded radio blanking plate is still present. Lifting the front bonnet reveals an immaculate area complete with a Kamei Kofferraum-Box front luggage storage tray with genuine VW service parts.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This desirable matching numbers 1302 S Super Beetle has the more powerful 1600cc air-cooled rear mounted engine that produces 60 bhp enabling 0-50mph in 13 seconds and a maximum and cruising speed of 80 mph plus. Lifting the boot lid will reveal a show goers delight with everything squeaky clean and factory perfect. The fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox works perfectly. The car was last serviced in October 2026.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pristine full width chrome wheel trims are shod in matching Michelin XZX 165 SR15 tyres costing £722 from Longstone Classic Tyres. The Super Beetle has a dual circuit brake system with disc brakes up front to deliver strong stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
According to the 1970 VW Brochure in the history file, the new VW 1302 S 1600cc Super Beetle was the most powerful, most exciting and most comfortable Beetle ever and combined with a sports car chassis, has the full driver package! This championship winning UK example was registered on the 1st October 1971 by Volkswagen main dealer, Pooles of Portsmouth Ltd. Mr Dingell was the conscientious owner until 1996 and the car has only had two former keepers in total. The last custodian for nearly a decade, Mrs Magaret Keohane, specifically wanted a rare 1302 S model and immediately entered it into the 2017 VW Stanford Hall Concours event. Despite an impressive judge’s scoresheet with its debut appearance, both Magaret and her husband have continually improved the car making it a highly regarded example on the VW scene today and indeed, the current 2026 Class Winner! Affectionately known as Clementine after the cars factory colour, it graced the likes of Stonor Park, Tatton Park and Viva Skegvagas, along with a European tour to Switzerland and the VW Vintage Meeting in Murten, scooping up many awards. There are two colossal history files which contain everything from the original handbooks, VW Service Record, VW Diagnosis Punch Card Booklet, VW fitted accessory installation bulletins and previous MOT certificates. This file also contains the eyewatering invoices revealing valiant efforts made by Mr and Mrs Keohane to source genuine NOS parts and accessories from all over the world! The second file is fascinating as all the show event brochures, concours score sheets and more are chronically filed. You really will struggle to find a more loved Super Beetle!

MOT October 2027, HPI Clear.
