EXTERIOR
Most bikes of this class were commuter machines, but the GP100 was more akin to a real motorcycle of the era with the looks and performance without the insurance premiums. Being the sportier model and finished in gloss Red it looks fabulous with period decals and badges in bright excellent condition. All the chrome has a mirror finish and the original Suzuki exhaust pipe is pristine with the part number clearly visible. The front mudguard has some minor dings, and the large size speedometer and tachometer is fully operational along with the warning lights. The original Stanley headlamp is clear, and the matching numbers frame ID is still encased in the protection sticker. A fabulous piece of Yamaha two-stroke history and a real hot 100!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With modern technical advances such as Crankshaft Cylinder Injection, (CCI) and Pointless Electronic Ignition, (PEI), this little 100cc disc-valve two-stroke motor is a screamer! Delivering a claimed 12bhp at 8500rpm, this machine will reach 71mph with similar mpg! (Source: The Biker February 1981). Presenting beautifully with the untampered engine number clearly visible, it kicks into life effortlessly emitting a wonderful whiff of two-stroke smoke and the familiar ring-ding exhaust note! The 5-speed transmission engages smoothly helping to keep the engine in the powerband from 5000rpm.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Being the sportier model, this example is fitted with the rare and genuine Suzuki mag wheels with Gold inner and polished Silver outer edging. Having never been refurbished there is some minor tarnishing, and they are shod in branded 2.75-18 rear and 2.50-18 front tyres with ample tread. Factory upgraded from the usual drum front brake, a desirable front hydraulic disc brake ensures positive stopping power at high speeds or under rainy conditions alike.
HISTORY FILE
Fashionable and sporty the GP100 provided real motorcycle looks without the costs helping many to graduate from scooter power to real power! This particular example was registered on the 21st June 1985 to a Mr Malcolm Roberts and has only ever had three former keepers. Such low owners normally unheard of with small capacity bikes. Still a matching numbers example it has the owner’s manual, Haynes manual and sales brochure included. Two keys are present. Enjoy and relive your youth or add it to the mancave!
