EXTERIOR
Introduced as a compact, shortened version of BMW’s existing Neue Klasse Sedans, the ’02’ Series was named so in relation to the number of doors the cars had. This stunning 2002 model finished in vibrant Verona Red, (Code 024), boasts a brilliant uniform deep polished finish to the paintwork following an extensive full restoration carried out nearly two decades ago to include a full strip down of the entire shell and underside. A testament to the quality of the work is still the amazing appearance today with only a few minor blemishes. The trim sections, rubbers and chrome work are incredible and virtually unmarked and the underside is stunning. There is a small area of delamination to the front screen at one bottom corner and the decorative badges to the front grille are now removed. Original features such as the BMW and 2002 model designation badges, original windscreen with running-in label, factory light clusters and BMW stamped lockable fuel cap will delight the avid BMW aficionado. A superb example of a model deep-seated in classic BMW history.

INTERIOR
The functional interior of this cockpit is clearly designed to suit the driver and highlights BMW’s visionary accomplishments which helped cement the makers place as a prestige marque. The body contoured seats in factory optional Tan leatherette are immensely comfortable and supportive. A very small repair to the edge of the driver’s side door card is barely visible along with a tiny and out of sight hole to the lower side drivers seat base. The pearl finish headlining and full carpeting are super clean and intact and the dashboard has only one very small split. Very expensive 2-piece front Coco Mats in Black and Neutral cost $200 from the US! All switchgear and functions operate with precision including the optional Becker Europa radio cassette. Remaining just as BMW intended, this beautifully preserved and unspoilt interior is certain to impress in all areas.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The technically advanced and civilised 4-cylinder 4-stroke inline engine with triple hemispherical swirl action combustion chambers produces 100bhp, enough to propel the car from 0-62MPH in 10.9 seconds and achieve top speed of 106mph. The spotless and detailed engine bay proudly displays original offside inner wing panel stamp and build plate along with stickers. The gearbox is an all synchromesh 4-speed unit with smooth and direct action, a sheer joy to operate.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard steel rims have been upgraded with genuine dealer accessory BMW Sport Paket alloy wheels. Hugely sought after and valuable, these are genuine items rather aftermarket replicas as evidenced by the FPS (Fratelli Pedrini Sarezzo) stamping to the inner faces as well as the more textured finish. The rims and centre caps are in superb condition with premium Uniroyal RainExpert3 tyres. The spare wheel is housed in the very clean boot area alongside the original jack. Dual-circuit brakes incorporating 240mm front discs and 230mm rear drums feel positive in all traffic conditions to install complete confidence. Advanced features such as automatic pad wear compensation further emphasise BMW’s forward thinking.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 1st April 1976, this exceptional UK example was registered by Mason Motors in Haverfordwest. The car has had just five former keepers in total with the third, Mr Ellis-Jones, owning it from 1986 to 2012. He was responsible for undertaking the full restoration. A Motor Engineer by trade, he purchased the car from a friend in 1986 knowing how good it was with the intention was to make the car one of the finest in existence. A full strip down included sandblasting of the bodywork and meticulous refurbishment of components before a professional repaint in the original Verona Red. The project was finally completed in 2008 and a detailed letter in the history file from the third owner along with a photograph of him beside the car recounts the story beautifully. KGF Classic Cars have previously sold this rare example and were thrilled to be offered the car once more whereby the next appreciative owner will marvel in the condition and appeal of this very special car.

A neat folder containing specialist invoices and previous MOT certificates also holds a letter from BMW Group Classic Division confirming that the car was built on the 25th August 1975 and delivered on the 11th September 1975 to BMW Concessionaires G.B. Ltd in Brentford. The original book pack, spare keys and a BMW ‘02’ Series sales brochure completes the history file.
