EQUIPMENT
Monocross rear suspension with De Carbon type shock absorber, box-section swinging arm, long-travel front forks with 41mm stanchions, lockable fuel filler cap, speedometer, tachometer, water temperature gauge, ignition switch incorporating park light, turn signal switch, headlight switch, neutral indicator, two-stroke oil light, horn, steering lock, rear luggage rack, rear footrests, helmet holder.
EXTERIOR
Based on race winning YZ motorcross machinery, the Yamaha DT125R was a favoured choice amongst both first time riders and experienced motorcyclists. This stunning original example presents incredibly well with a gloss shine to the bright red 10 litre fuel tank and vibrant factory decals to all undamaged plastic panels. The deeply padded dual light grey seat has no wear or rips with a clear white Yamaha logo and all light units are factory fitment. Honest markings to areas such as the side stand and luggage rack are entirely forgiven and even the olive drab finish is present on components, long lost on poorly stored and restored examples. All dials and gauges function correctly and the switchgear looks like new along with the footrest and gearchange rubbers! The rear mudguard is uncut. It is hard to imagine a nicer existing example of this successful machine.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Powered by a liquid cooled 2 stroke motor, the DT breathes through a 28mm flat slide Mikuni carburettor which feeds the fuel/air mix straight into the crankcases to give instant throttle response. Advanced features such Yamaha Power Valve System, (YPVS) and Yamaha Energy Induction System, (YEIS), gives strong low and mid-range torque combined with a great top end powerband! Being a French European model, it benefits from being unrestricted. The 6-speed transmission is smooth and precise and helps keep the engine in the sweet spot.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Takasago chrome wheels have a brilliant mirror shine with slight markings and are shod in premium Continental Escape measuring 2.75-21 upfront and 4.10-18 to the rear for great all-round performance. The DT125R features YZ style drilled discs at the front and rear to dissipate heat, measuring 230mm up front and 220mm to the rear and uses the same caliper and master cylinder as YZ motorcross racers to offer controllable stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
This fabulous Yamaha DT125R was registered on the 24th June 1991 and was sourced by Unit 5 Motocyles for a discerning bike collector wanting the very best example. Residing on display in a French motorcycles dealers showroom as a one owner bike with only 2,039 miles, it was purchased and UK registered in 2016 and owned by the same collector ever since. On display in his lounge it has been well maintained with light regular use and now has a documented 3,579 miles, (5,761km), and performs fabulously, especially being an unrestricted full power YPVS model! The owners testimonial is also included with the history file. Supplied with its handbook, purchase documents, previous MOT certificates, spare keys and brochures, it is ready for the next appreciative enthusiast.
