EXTERIOR
This wonderfully nostalgic Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3, a once common sight on UK roads and instantly familiar to many, is now seldom seen and this example remains in beautiful original condition having covered just 20,868 miles from new! Finished in factory original Haze Blue Metallic, (Code E 261), a cost option when ordered new, the paintwork boasts a wonderful bright uniform shine and polished finish. Only very light markings and carefully touched in chips are visible and common troublesome areas such as the rear wheel arches are original and in great shape. Garaged from new, all factory panels are damage free and the superb underside is free from excess applied underseal to allow easy inspection of the fantastic structural integrity. The factory glass, GM Carello headlights, badges and trim sections are in excellent order and radio security stickers and ‘Made in West Germany’ rear window label remain. The condition of this unmolested and cherished Cavalier is certain to impress even the most ardent scrutineer. Retro motoring at its best!
INTERIOR
A spotlessly clean, functional and period Vauxhall interior is sure to delight fans of the Griffin badged cars! The original Matlock Velour trim in Blue, (Code 111), is in very good order with no rips or worn bolsters. The matching colour keyed door cards and headlining are pristine, and the fleece carpets are preserved. Prominent natural veins to the steering wheel and gear knob are an obvious trait of such a low mileage example. All controls, switch gear and displays function except the radio. The immaculate boot floor has the factory insulating panel, PDI chalk scribe and the original polystyrene moulding holds the jack and wheel brace. A comfortable modern classic remaining just as it did when the MK3 Cavalier ‘Sierra Beater’ was launched in 1988.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Cavalier GL features the desired 2.0i 1998cc OHC four-cylinder engine with automatic choke developing 115bhp at 5200rpm and 175Nm of torque at 2600rpm. This example having covered just 20,868 miles drives perfectly and the quiet yet free-revving engine is a delight. The engine bay is spotlessly clean, unaltered and displays original panel stampings, plates and stickers and factory protective wax. The five-speed manual transmission is tight and precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 14in wheels wear the correct GL specification hubcaps which are in remarkable condition with only a few markings. Vauxhall experts will note the 14in wheels and hub caps as opposed the otherwise identical 13in fitment for lower engine models as well as the square as opposed to the rounded griffin badges on the hub caps as fitted to the earlier models. Premium brand Uniroyal 195/60 R14 tyres have covered just a few hundred miles having been fitted new in 2021. Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with direct-action servo assistance feature 9.3in front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 31st January 1989, this exceptional example has covered just 20,868 miles from new and was one of the very first MK3 Cavalier’s sold on a F prefix registration plate, the new model only having been launched three months prior. The car was supplied directly from leasing company, Jessups Fleet and Commercial in Romford, and was believed to have been ordered for the wife of a wealthy businessman. At roughly a year old the car was sold as an approved used car by Gates Group Ford to the second owner who kept the car until 2020. KGF Classic Cars sold the car to a collector in 2021 and we are delighted the car has found it’s way back to us, ready for the next lucky owner to appreciate.
The original Vauxhall vehicle literature pack contains all handbooks, radio guide and dealership point of sale paraphernalia along with the service book with eight entries, and all servicing and maintenance is fully up to date. Two keys are present including the original working Vauxhall torch key and there is even an Edition No 1 Cavalier range brochure from 1989! This beautifully preserved and unmolested Cavalier is a credit to its long-term custodian and subsequent keepers. Capable, practical and comfortable retro motoring, a guaranteed hit at shows.
