SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An astonishing Ford Orion 1.6 Ghia with just 21,991 miles from new.

EQUIPMENT
Grey bodyside mouldings with bright insert, polycarbonate body colour toned bumpers with bright insert, bright window surrounds, halogen headlamps, brown tinted glass, tilt/slide sunroof with louvred shutter, heated electric door mirrors, rear windscreen incorporated aerial, central locking, split-fold 60:40 rear seats, centre armrest, electric front windows, front and rear headrests, tachometer, quartz digital clock incorporating date and stopwatch, centre console with integral coin slots, cassette storage, cigarette lighter, FM cassette (ESRT 32PS) with joystick balance control, glove box illumination, boot light. Factory Options; Metallic paint. Dealer Accessories; Mud flaps, rubber mats.

EXTERIOR
A true show contender, this Orion is finished in metallic and cost optional, Quartz Gold, (Code 1 5). A beautiful deep gloss finish has been preserved thanks to long term enthusiast ownership, garaged storage and very low miles. Incredibly, the car still wears original panels with date stampings and the underside is fabulous with a pleasing lack of excess applied under seal. All trim sections are in amazing condition and the Ghia badges to the boot lid and front wings remind the neighbours that this car exudes opulence! A virtually indetectable rub to the offside rear bumper corner and tiny touched-in chips to the bonnet are only found on meticulous scrutiny. All glass is window etched and both front Halogen headlamps are correct Carello items. The car retains its dealer number plates front and rear as well as the original tax disc holder and the rear screen sticker. A preserved example far superior to the vast majority.

INTERIOR
Trimmed in luxurious Taupe Olivia cloth, (Code NE), with matching door panel inserts, the specialist materials unique to the Ghia model are pristine. Fully commensurate with the low mileage and cherished ownership, the interior is in outstanding condition even down to the internal door handles that are a common weak point and almost always heavily degraded. The coloured keyed cut pile carpet has been protected by genuine rubber ‘waffle’ floor mats from new. All switchgear is functional including the original stereo with joystick speaker control and the dashboard and other plastic trim completely undamaged. The boot area is immaculate including the spotless boot floor and spare wheel well. An unspoilt and pristine Ford retro interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1.6 litre lean burn OHC 4-cylinder engine with a sequential twin venturi carburettor produces 89bhp allowing a top speed of 111mph and 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds. This very well-maintained example is in perfect running order with all servicing up to date and a cambelt change in 2020 with approximately 500 miles covered since. The car is standard apart from a stainless-steel exhaust fitted in 2002 whereby a bespoke system was designed carefully to retain the characteristic CVH rasp at a cost of £432. The engine bay is very clean and retains all factory plates, stickers and fragile paper labels long lost on most examples. The five-speed manual gearbox is a joy to operate and this lively car is great fun to drive!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
6X13 steel wheels are graced with Ghia specification full wheel covers with chrome inserts in excellent condition. All tyres including the spare are matching premium brand 155/80 R13 Firestone F590 with ample tread, the spare in fact having never been used and still showing colouring banding to the tread. The diagonally-split dual line servo assisted braking system with front discs and self-adjusting rear drums stop with assurance.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied by Ford Main Dealers, Candor of Chelmsford, this example was registered new on the 1st August 1986 and used as a dealer demo for all new Orion. Subsequently husband and wife owned until 2012 when an avid Ford enthusiast purchased the car to attend shows. An active member of the Ford Orion Owners Club the car enjoyed the show circuit and at the well-attended Classic Ford Show this example was given the accolade of being in the Top 20 attendees and invited to complete a track parade lap! A comprehensive file of invoices and MOT records warrant the low 21,991 miles which accompany the handbooks and three keys. There is a sales brochure entitled ‘The New Ford Orion, a car with a touch of class!’ This luxurious and well-preserved Orion Ghia is outstanding in every respect and a deserving addition to any classic car collection.
