Full Description

A Jewel Violet Ford Escort RS Cosworth Monte Carlo with only 24,247 miles.

Built by Karmann alongside the regular Escort Cosworth, the Monte Carlo was named in tribute to Francois Delecours’s victory on the 1994 Monte Carlo rally. Available from February 1994 in a numbered limited run of just 200 examples. The Monte Carlo was offered with or without the Aero Pack and in a choice of three colours: Mallard Green, Ash Black or Jewel Violet. A mere 73 RHD Monte Carlos were made for the British market of which just 12 are in Jewel Violet. (Source: Factory-Original Ford RS Cosworths by Dan Williamson and the RS Owners Club).

Number 163. This exceptional Monte Carlo has covered a warranted 24,247 miles from new and is finished in the desirable Jewel Violet colour scheme, (Code T 4), one of only 12 RHD drive examples ever made in this colour at the Ford Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany. The correct silver Monte stickers are attached to the doors and tailgate and the smaller Ford badge is repositioned in the centre, above the boot lock. This collector quality example is simply breath taking having enjoyed ownership by knowledgeable enthusiasts and only some carefully touched in frontal stone chips are visible. All factory light clusters and labelled glass remain fitted as do the original supplying Ford main dealer number plates and rear screen sticker. Even the unused original tax discs holder has been kept! Beautifully preserved, this is the holy grail of Escort Cosworth’s.

The interior of this desirable Monte Carlo Edition is exceptional with the Recaro recliners finished in multi-coloured Raven Flow upholstery, (Code LB). The Motorsport logos embroidered on one thigh support along with the alloy gear knob and matching alloy handbrake button are all present and unique to this model. Also unique, is the steering wheel with the diamond-shaped perforated sections in excellent condition. Genuine Ford carpet mats are fitted and the Dawn Grey headlining is unmarked. A replacement gear lever gaiter has been fitted and the CD 2040 unit is fully operational. The numbered dashboard plaque 163 (of 200) reminds the occupants how rare this car is.

The powerful and well proven Cosworth 2.0 litre 16v turbocharged YBT engine features the blue painted cam cover denoting a number of significant changes over the older YBG unit of the Sierra RS Cosworth and factory standard power is quoted at 227bhp. The engine bay is clean and unaltered with all factory plates and labels intact. There are some tiny chips to the blue cam cover and a stainless-steel exhaust system has been fitted. The permanent Ferguson four-wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is light and direct.

Iconic and immaculate OZ 8 X 16” alloys are shod in correct premium replacement Pirelli PZero Asimmetrico 225/45 ZR16 tyres with masses of tread. The spotless boot area holds the unused space saver spare and toolkit both with respective carpeted covers as well as an ultra-rare genuine Ford vehicle safety set. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.

This desirable and rare Big Turbo Ford Escort RS Cosworth Monte Carlo was built in May 1994 and registered new on the 30th November 1994. This car is number 163/200 produced of which just 73 are RHD for the British Market. Only twelve cars were produced in Jewel Violet, of which seven are believed to have survived. Supplied by Ford Main Dealers, T.C. Harrison Group Ltd of Sheffield, this example has covered just 24,247 miles from new with a wonderfully presented history folder. The ownership history has been carefully researched by the previous keeper which reveals that the car once belonged to Mr J Harrison, a Director of T.C. Harrison Ford Group Ltd. Further documented and detailed research has been carried out on all other remaining Jewel Violet cars and forms part of the huge and beautifully presented history file. A large folder of MOT certificates date back to the first in 1998 and there are many invoices for servicing a maintenance. In December 2022 the car was taken to renowned Harvey Gibbs of Supreme Car Services in Peterborough for a major service including front and rear differential oils, transfer box oil and a cambelt a water pump, for which the invoice provides a full breakdown of works. All handbooks including the original service book are present in the Ford document wallet along with two sets of keys.
