SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A first class Ford Focus RS Mk1 same owner since 2003 and just 3,994 miles.

MODEL HISTORY
Inspired by the Late Colin McRae’s victorious Ford Focus RS World Rally Car, the Ford Focus RS was created as a no compromise WRC, (World Rally Car), as well as revitalising the RS marque.  Designed in conjunction with Ford Racing Engineers and M-Sport in Cumbria, the RS badge synonymous with the most desirable, high performance Ford vehicles was first introduced to the already accomplished Focus.   A limited-production of just 4,501 examples were built with only 2,147 sold to the UK market.  This being build number 2822.

EQUIPMENT
Computer optimised unitary welded steel body, rigid occupant safety cell, energy absorbing crumple zones, wider front and rear pressed steel wings, auxiliary air intakes, aerodynamic splitter and rear wing, mounted side sills, modified lower rear apron, driver and front passenger airbags, air conditioning, leather sports steering wheel with blue inserts, carbon fibre centre console with start button, limited edition number plaque, Sparco aluminium handbrake, gear knob and pedals, boost gauge and ‘change up light’, bright metal tread plates with RS script, stereo radio/6CD model 6006E, Thatcham CAT 1 alarm.  Dealer options; RS floor mats.

EXTERIOR
This ultimate road-going Focus model is finished in Imperial Blue Metallic, (Code Q2), the only available colour.  The electrifying deep blue finish is simply astonishing and despite the soft paint finish associated with this model, a perfectionist will struggle to fault.  There is a miniscule mark to the rear bumper and a couple of tiny chips to the inner wheel arches.  All the glass, plastics and light clusters are preserved and originality seekers will be pleased to see supplying dealer number plates and tax disc holder as well as factory stickers in the door apertures.  The underside is fabulously clean thanks to the ultra-low miles covered and indoor storage and displays all factory markings and part component labels still visible.  Owned by the same Ford fanatic enthusiast since it was just one month old, this perfect example will delight the next Blue Oval fan.

INTERIOR
Inside this competition themed Ford are a pair of body-hugging Sparco road-race seats swathed in luxurious Racing Black and Blue Leather and Black Alcantara, (Code AR).  The RS and Sparco logos are embossed and stitched into the upholstery, and this coupled with the aluminium fittings, push button start and numbered plaque, leave you with little doubt this is no ordinary Focus!  The seats are immaculate and the steering wheel blue leather is vibrant, unlike most.  The RS carpet mats are fitted and are in excellent condition.  The air conditioning is ice cold and all controls function.  Ford built this car to truly delight its motorsport loving RS devoted fan base, and with the Sparco (seats), Garrett Technologies (turbocharger), O.Z. Racing (wheels), Brembo (brakes), Sachs Racing (dampers), Quaife (differential) and AP Racing (clutch), they hit it just right!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the Ford 2.0 Duratec RS four-cylinder 16v unit needing little introduction, the power output achieved is 212bhp at 5500rpm and 310Nm torque at 3500rpm.  The maximum speed is 144mph while 0-60 is dispatched in just 6.4 seconds!  The engine bay is stunning with factory plates, stickers, labels and wing stamps visible.  The Ford MTX-75 gearbox with a heavy duty AP Racing clutch offers the ultimate rally road car experience.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The robust, lightweight and imposing 8 x 18in O.Z. racing rims are pristine and have never been refurbished.  The bespoke and unobtainable factory supplied Michelin Pilot Sport 225/40 ZR18 tyres that were developed specifically for the Focus RS are still fitted with no cracking or uneven wear.  Peer through the large openings between the spokes and massive spotless Brembo 4-pot calipers and 324mm ventilated discs will be seen.  These can stop the car from 100 mph in 4.1 seconds and generate braking forces exceeding 1.0 g.

HISTORY FILE
Manufactured at Ford’s Saarlouis Plant, Germany, build number 2822 is one of just 2,147 units sold to the UK market.  Purchased by the current owner, Mr John Smith on the 18th December 2003 when the car was just one month old.  The supplying Ford dealer, EMG Ford of Thetford charged him over list price at £21,838 when the car had covered 1,730 miles, such was the demand for this rare car.  List price in 2003 was £20,100.  Mr Smith has remained the custodian ever since cherishing the car and forming part of a collection of sporting fast Fords including a Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000 and Mk2 RS2000.  Sparingly used it comes with all original handbooks, guides and special RS supplement are contained within the black Ford leather RS wallet.  Two keys with unbroken RS fobs are present along with EMG main dealer leather keyrings.  The car has just benefited from a major service and cambelt change on the 18th September 2019 by Ames Ford in Thetford costing £1278.62.  According to the Mk1 Focus RS Register, this example is the 9th lowest mileage car known to the club and represents a very special opportunity to the discerning collector.
