Full Description

A desirable 90 Spec Ford Escort RS Turbo with only two owners from new.

Body coloured bumpers with black insert, body coloured wheel arch extensions, 90 spec tailgate spoiler, halogen headlamps, front driving lamps, cooling vents in bonnet, central door locking, remote body coloured door mirrors, heated rear window, front windscreen rapid de-ice, tinted glass, quartz digital clock, aerial incorporated in rear windscreen, Recaro front reclining seats, soft feel sports steering wheel, tilt/slide glass sunroof, tachometer, electrically operated front windows, heated door mirrors.  Factory options; Fuel computer, graphic equaliser.  Dealer fit accessories; Apollo 2002 immobiliser.

Finished in striking Radiant Red, (Colour Code P9), this excellent standard RS Turbo has a deep glossy shine.  The desirable 90 spec enhancements such as the face-lift front bumper and rear spoiler are fully intact and straight.  Remedial paintwork has been undertaken in order to uphold the pleasing finish and all factory panels are straight with linear gaps. Correct decals, body-styling, original Carello headlamps and Ford rear light clusters remain fitted and the front window rubbers have distorted slightly.  All exterior glass has factory stickers and is security etched with the registration number, and Ford main dealer number plates are fitted.   A very bright and useable show goer.

This fabulous Escort RS Turbo has an interior which remains exactly how the manufacturer intended.  The fully adjustable supportive Recaro seats show virtually no wear to the ‘ Zolda’ fabric which is grey, red and blue (Code LW) thanks to the two owner careful ownership.  The prominent side bolsters are firm and the matching door cards are in excellent condition with some lifting to the armrest.  All switches, knobs and dials function correctly and the 90 spec Ford stereo radio/cassette model 2005 remains fitted along with the factory optional and incredibly rare Graphic equaliser and operational fuel computer.  The boot area is very clean and the grey carpeted parcel shelf is straight, uncut and supported by correct rubber hangers, but is slightly discoloured.  A tremendously clean and unspoilt retro RS interior.

The 1.6 OHC (CVH) fuel injected engine with a Garrett AiResearch T3 turbo charger and intercooler is factory standard making this vehicle a rare example that has managed to avoid the modification era, thankfully as the car was in the custody of the first owner for an incredible 27 years!  Quoted figures of 132bhp give this vehicle a 0-60 dash of 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 128mph.  The engine bay is clean with factory stickers, plates and inner wing stampings.  The 5-speed manual Ford BC box with standard 220mm clutch is light, precise and a joy to use having just had a complete strip and rebuild with all new bearings and seals.

The light alloy 6X15 RS wheels have been subject to refurbishment in the correct Stardust Silver and are pristine.  Premium matching Dunlop SP Sport 2000 195/50 R15 tyres are fitted all round showing plenty of tread and the spare wheel wears the original Dunlop SP Sport D40 tyre.  This ‘hot hatchback’ slows as well as it goes with the ABS braking system designed in conjunction with Lucas Girling working perfectly.

Registered new on the 1st August 1989 by supplying Ford Main Dealer, W.H. Perrys of Essex, the first owner was a Mr David Smith.  A new car order form in the history file made out to Mr Smith confirms the price paid of £10,430.81 including factory specified options.  Incredibly, Mr Smith owed the car for almost 27 years, only selling in 2016 to the second ever keeper, Mr Craig O’Neill.  It is extremely obvious that both enthusiasts have cherished this performance Ford as witnessed by a complete and eye watering colossal history file comprising of countless genuine Ford invoices and specialist thereafter, including the most recent by renowned experts, Harvey Gibbs of Supreme Car Services in May 2019.  This invoice for £1,577.35 includes works carried out of full service, cambelt, tensioner and water pump, gearbox rebuild and metering unit calibration as well as a full inspection.  Furthermore, the original Perrys document wallet houses all handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as the service book with 15 stamped entries.  The current mileage is 79,345 miles.

This vehicle will appeal to a Ford enthusiast wanting a cherished, well maintained and useable Series 2 RS Turbo.
