A stunning impeccably detailed bubble-arch AVO Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000.

EQUIPMENT
Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) Type 49 body, front quarter bumpers, strengthened chassis rails, strengthened flitch plates, reinforced front suspension strut top mounting plates, rear radius rods, safety glass, anti-burst locks, black painted aluminium grille, six pod sports binnacle, leather rimmed sports steering wheel, heater fan, two speed wipers, courtesy light, washable plastic headlining, push-round ashtray.  Factory fitted options; Cigarette lighter, hazard warning flashers, Quartz iodine headlamps. RS Accessories;  Steel ‘bubble’ wheelarch extensions, 7.5×13 RS alloy wheels, Weber 44IDF carburettors and RS special oval air box, centre console, Ford push-button radio.

EXTERIOR
This startlingly beautiful and iconic RS2000 is finished in Stardust Silver, (Code 3), which is a rare colour option and as it left the factory when new.  The attention to detail throughout is staggering from perfect panel gaps to a spectacular underside, all laid bare and as manufactured by Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations.  This car personally belonged to Andrew Stapley, former Director and renowned marque expert of ASM Restorations Limited and has been restored to a show winning standard.  At this time Special Build Programme steel wheelarch extensions, (bubble-arches), were fitted to create the big-winged tough look and accommodate the gorgeous wide RS alloys.  The correct 7” diameter round sealed beam Cibe quartz halogen headlamps are fitted along with plain orange lenses fitted from late 1974 and all chrome, rubbers, glass and badges are immaculate.  Very difficult to fault in all respects and suitable for visual perfectionists.

INTERIOR
Fabulous in every way and true to a Ford RS2000 interior with incredible attention to detail.  The brushed nylon RS sports seats, (Code A1), with optional headrests match a spotless loop pile carpet throughout and unmarked door cards.   All sports instrumentation functions including the correct 130mph and 7000rpm speedometer and tachometer providing at a glance concise information.  The flat three-spoke RS steering wheel has been retrimmed.  The padded facia top has no cracks and period accessories such as the centre console housing a Ford push-button radio and Kienzle clock are fitted but not connected.  The boot area continues the showroom experience.  This is one for the RS connoisseur wanting to enjoy a top class motoring legend.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Prepare for gasps of amazement as onlookers marvel at the spotlessly clean engine bay of this Escort RS2000.  The 2.0 Ford ‘Pinto’ unit offers ample performance but thanks to a complete Vulcan Engineering overhaul to their Pinto 160 HP Spec, costing £5,892, this example goes and sounds as well as it looks!  The desirable Ford RS special oval air box helps the engine breathe freely and is the prized jewel for any RS collector.  The single selector rail shift four speed synchromesh gearbox offers short, positive and snappy gear changes which is an absolute delight to use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Immaculate and optional 7.5×13 RS Sport Alloys, as available through the Ford Dealer Special Build Programme are correctly date stamped and shod in Vredestein Sprint Classic 205/60 VR13 tyres with excellent tread.  The direct acting vacuum servo assistance dual-line braking system works effectively.

HISTORY FILE
Built at Fords Advanced Vehicle Operations factory in Aveley in November 1974 this vehicle is one of 3,759 genuine AVO RS2000’s built for the RHD market.  With the production of the RS2000 ending in January 1975 this was one of the final cars produced before the closure of the AVO factory.  Originally registered in the Republic of Ireland as IIA5936 before arriving in the UK in 1984 and being registered to Guy Reynolds in Maidstone, the owner for the next 27 years.  The vehicle was then registered to Andrew Stapley in 2012 who was Company Director and renowned marque expert of ASM Restorations Limited.  Ownership was transferred in 2013 to Mr Lee Fulford who provided ASM Restorations Ltd with an open chequebook to create his ultimate dream Mk1 RS2000, a big-winged immaculate show car true to factory specification with performance to match.  This car will not disappoint any Blue Oval Ford fan wanting what must be, one of the cleanest Mk1 Ford Escort RS2000 examples currently available.
