Full Description

An iconic sports 2-stroke UK Yamaha RD250E in fabulous condition.

Chrome mudguards front and rear, chrome side repeaters, twin chrome adjustable mirrors, capacitor discharge ignition CDI, speedometer, tachometer, turn signal switch, headlight switch, engine kill switch, neutral indicator, oil light, high beam light, horn, rear footrests, fuel valve with reserve, steering lock, helmet holder, under seat storage, centre and side stand, lockable fuel cap.

Finished in the desirable Clean White, the paintwork with matching side faring is in superb order with the famous and correct red Yamaha speed block motif proudly on display, exactly how it left the factory. The high-tensile steel tubular double-cradle frame has been blasted and powder-coated with the frame number visible and the fork bottoms highly polished. The chrome work is bright with some minor tarnishing to the original front mudguard. The standard twin exhaust silences have never been touched clearly showing the Yamaha part numbers to each pipe with some markings and the downpipes have been rechromed. The seat base is a fibreglass replacement with brand new seat sponge and cover. All functions, lights and controls operate perfectly. A very special air-cooled projectile.

The 2-stroke torque induction twin cylinder engine has a 247cc displacement and produces 32bhp at 8000rpm. Featuring many advanced features at the time such as Yamahas Autolube system varying the delivery of pressurised oil linked to the throttle and precise ignition timing by utilising transistorised Capacitor Discharge Ignition, CDI. The engine has been aqua blasted to create the show appearance and has just been fully rebuilt with the crank and barrels sent off to Grampians via BSD Engineering for a full crank rebuild, new pistons and a rebore. The 6-speed transmission has perfectly selected ratios and a multi-plate clutch running in oil for feather light changes. Please note a running-in period of 500 miles is required.

This RD250 remains fitted with the stylish sports cast-alloy wheels with red detailing. These
rims are in fantastic condition with a few minor marks having been aqua blasted, repainted and polished. New quality Michelin 100/90-18 rear and 90/90 -18 front tyres are fitted. The braking system has been overhauled with both front and rear master cylinders stripped, cleaned and new internal kits fitted. The brake calipers have been stripped, cleaned, repainted and new pistons and seals fitted and new modern authentic brake hoses fitted.

Registered new on the 2nd November 1979, this RD250 Model E is a UK bike and left the factory in desirable Clean White, as presented today. Receipts for expenditure are included and the bike was previously owned since 2010 by Mr Mark Moore. A Yamaha collector and restorer of the highest standing, his collection of bikes and passion for the marque are the envy of many and this example boasts all the hallmarks of a knowledgeable enthusiast having been fully restored by him. This RD250 is an absolute must for a collection and presents a rare opportunity for the avid classic motorcycle fan appreciative of the esteemed RD Series.
