A Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 2 with 37,759 miles, family owned for 30 years.

EQUIPMENT
Body coloured bumpers with black insert, body coloured wheel arch extensions, tailgate spoiler, halogen headlamps, front driving lamps, cooling vents in bonnet, central door locking, heated rear window, dual-tone horn, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass, quartz digital clock, aerial incorporated in rear windscreen, 60/40 split rear back rest, soft feel sports steering wheel, tilt/slide glass sunroof, tachometer, electrically operated front windows, Ford Self-Seek Stereo, speaker control. Factory options; Quickclear heated front screen, electrically operated and heated door mirrors. Dealer Options; Ford rubber floor mats, immobiliser.

EXTERIOR
This stunning example is finished in original Ford Radiant Red, (Code P9), which boasts a gorgeous deep uniform shine commensurate with the car’s low miles and fastidious enthusiast ownership, namely Father and Son for 30 years! The factory panels are pin straight with uniform gaps and all trim sections and RS decals are correct and original. Close scrutiny will reveal nothing other than light touched in markings and stone chips. The Ford Security System window etching remains on all glass and the headlight and light fittings are factory Carello/Ford fitment. Supplying Ford Main Dealer number plates remain fitted along with the rear screen sticker, tax disc holder and even dealer boot badge. A very special RS Ford.

INTERIOR
The cockpit of this Escort RS Turbo is near perfect remaining exactly as Ford intended. The fully adjustable supportive Recaro seats show no wear to the Zolda fabric, (Code LW) with the ever popular Shadow grey, red and blue pattern. Matching door cards are in excellent order and the often scratch prone door handles are remarkably good. The spotless carpets have been preserved with genuine Ford rubber waffle mats front and rear, in addition to a second set, and retain complete fullness to the pile. All switches, knobs and dials function correctly including the Ford Self-Seek stereo radio/cassette which even has the operating tag still attached! The boot area is spotless with original build stickers and markings to the floor. A truly well cared for interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1.6 OHC (CVH) fuel injected engine with a Garrett AiResearch T3 turbo charger and intercooler is completely factory standard. Producing 132bhp in such a lightweight car, the 0-60 sprint is dealt with in 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 128mph is achieved. The engine bay is spotless and displays factory plates, stickers and date stamps to the original wings, and there are genuine Motorcraft service items including a Motorcraft flat terminal battery. The 5-speed manual Ford BC box with standard 220mm clutch is light and precise.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The alloy 6X15 RS wheels incredibly are unrestored and still display the factory finish and prominent part number stampings with only very light scratches. Five factory Dunlop SP Sport 195/50 R15 tyres will delight originality seekers but renewal due to age is advised. This fast Ford icon stops as well as it goes with the ABS braking system designed in conjunction with Lucas Girling working perfectly.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 3rd March 1989, this fabulous example was supplied new by Ford RS Dealers, Quicks of Chester Ltd. In addition to the very low 37,759 miles from new, this example has the added provenance of being owned by Father and Son, Lee and David Hannam, from new to 2018 with ownership transferring between them. In 2018, the car was entered into Silverstone Auctions where it sold for £26,438, as detailed in the auction results here.

The huge history file consists of the original purchase invoice made out to Lee Hannam which confirms the purchase price of £12,499.99. The full book pack incudes the original service book with eight stamped entries, all from the supplying Ford Dealer Quicks, and covers the vehicle history up to 28,187 miles. In addition, there is a huge collection of supporting Ford invoices throughout the car’s lifetime as well as all MOT certificates from the first in 1992 to fully validate the mileage. The timing belt was changed in 2017 at 37,324 miles by Ford main dealer, Evans Halshaw, with supporting invoice. Everything about this example, down to the low mileage, outstanding condition and remarkable history file is a credit to Father and Son, David and Lee Hannam, whose dedicated and fastidious upkeep is a true reflection of their enthusiasm for the Ford brand. This is without question a very special RS Turbo with which the next fortunate owner will benefit from the cars cherished existence.
