A stunning accessorised UK Volkswagen 1303S Super Beetle with three owners.

EQUIPMENT
Chrome window trim, door handles and mirrors, chrome bumpers, running boards, tinted rear lenses, opening front quarter windows, rear opening windows, hazard lights, dash illumination adjustment, interior light, leather padded dash, assist straps, headlight flasher, bezel vents, sill vents, glove box, rear seatbelts, door pockets, twin sun visors, grab handle, Empi gear shift, Sunpro tach gauge, chrome and wooden door handles/door locks.

EXTERIOR
This delightful Super Beetle really appeals in its two-tone Kansas Beige over Chianti Red, (Codes L91D and L31H) and is reminiscent of a quaint simpler motoring age. The paint work has a uniform glossy appearance and this example is accustomed to VW shows and rallies. The front lights are original Bosch units and the elephant foot tail lights are smoked items. All works undertaken to achieve the show going appearance are catalogued and photographed in the history file. The glass is factory fitted and removable event stickers remain affixed such as Bug Jam, Dubs at the Park and Stanford Hall to act as a reminder of the enjoyment had showcasing this beautiful car. The chrome bumpers and trim are shiny bright but the door mirror arms have pitted. Being the facelifted model this example benefits from wider bonnet shape, rounder front wings, larger two-tier boot with spare wheel lying flat and a sharply curved windscreen helping to Improve forward vision and aerodynamics of the vehicle (known by some as the ‘Panorama’ Beetle). Beautifully finished and ready for the next chapter.

INTERIOR
The splendid interior of this VW Beetle complements the exterior wonderfully finished in cream leather with red piping. This colour scheme extends to matching door cards and even a leather dash all clean. Dark red carpeting throughout including under the bonnet and rear parcel shelf with cream piping was professionally fitted by Spirit of the 50’s and looks stunning. Neat accessories such as an EMPI shifter, chrome and wooden steering wheel, window winders and door locks, Sunpro tach gauge and a sound system lift the cabin to a higher dimension than the simple and austere classic interior. The headlining is clean and unmarked and under the bonnet is the original identification plate and factory stickers. A really special place to be.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This is a matching numbers air-cooled rear mounted engine that produces 50bhp and emits that unmistakable VW Beetle engine note which is delightfully pronounced but completely unobtrusive. Minor visual enhancements include a chrome Flame-Thrower coil and distributor housing and the engine bay is very clean. A top speed of 81mph is quoted from the 1584cc engine. The fully synchronised 4-speed gearbox works perfectly especially when fitted with the Hurst style shifter with a trigger reverse!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Desirable EMPI Sprint Stars grace each corner shod in branded tyres with excellent tread. The wheels are bright, undamaged and look great and have been painted to an average level. Attention to detail even extends to chrome VW valve caps! Being the 1303S model it has a hydraulic dual circuit braking system with disc brakes to the front and drums to the rear which do a fine job of stopping the vehicle.

HISTORY FILE
An amazing history file waits to be presented to the next custodian. Supplied new by VW Main Dealers Renwicks Garages Ltd of Plymouth on the 13th April 1973 this vehicle has only had two former keepers. The new vehicle invoice reveals the first owner, Mr Crimp, purchased the car for £1,104 and remained the proud owner for the next 29 years. It was subsequently sold to VW enthusiast Mr Jackson in 2002 who accessorised the car continuing to cherish it for the next 11 years. His ownership story is told in the magazine Volks World whereby the car won Ride of the Month! The final owner, Mrs Haynes has enjoyed the car tremendously attending various VW events and shows and has continued the fine upkeep. The history file is huge broken down into annual subsections to account for invoices, old MOT certificates, photographs of works undertaken and even tax discs. All the manuals, handbooks and service book are included and even the VW Diagnosis Punch Card Booklet with the original build sticker is present! Representing and wonderful opportunity to tastefully stand out from the crowd and own a car with incredible provenance. Enjoy!
