Factory options; Sunroof. Dealer options; Tailored Peugeot floor mats, mud flaps, locking wheel nuts, cassette holder, extended warranty (expired), sunroof deflector, fire extinguisher, Scorpion 737 alarm.

EXTERIOR
This outstanding Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 finished in original Alpine White, (Code P0WT), boasts incredible credentials with having just one owner from new. The fanatical dedication and the owner’s absolute adoration for the car is clearly evident in the stunning condition of this garaged example. The lightweight fragile panels are straight and free from the common dings and scuffs, and some light age-related markings are insignificant and more than appropriate for an untouched unrestored car. This early 1987 car displays correct Phase 1 features including the Siem driving lamps, round base door mirrors, rear spoiler with squared ends bonded to the rear screen and the fluted rear applique with Peugeot and 205 GTi badges correctly affixed left and right accordingly. Further originality is seen in the factory etched glass with all stickers and labels intact along with the Peugeot Talbot Sport front and rear stickers that have been fitted since new. This is an outstanding unmolested example and not the usual multi owner thrashed hothatch!

INTERIOR
Interior features for the Phase 1 cars are quite distinctive, namely the notably different dashboard featuring slider heating controls as well as the door cards in grey vinyl/red lower carpet which finish short of the window sill leaving a strip of exposed painted metal. The ribbed velour/cord upholstery is spotlessly clean and tight and all seat structure has retained correct shape and firmness. The bolster material to the driver’s seat has been professional retrimmed. All the clear sports dials show healthy readings and operate faultlessly, as do the push button switches and slider controls. The bright red carpeting, anthracite headlining and fully trimmed door cards are in excellent condition with even genuine Peugeot carpets mats being protected with further mats! The factory Philips PLL Quartz 553 radio cassette player with the standard four speaker system remain fitted and operational as does the digital clock. A wonderful period ‘hot hatch’ interior.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The lively performance of the 1580cc XU5JA engine with correct Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection produces 115BHP at 6250 rpm and 98.4 lb. Ft of torque. Performance credentials in a car weighing just 850kg are guaranteed to stir up excitement! The clean engine bay displays factory plates, stickers, inner wing stamp and scuttle lip chassis stamp as well as the black slam panel and paint code stencilled above the nearside headlamp remaining factory correct. The Scorpion alarm siren is placed where the jack is normally housed but the original jack is present. The five-speed gear box feels light and direct.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard 12-hole centre-less Speedline SL201 5.5J x 14 alloy wheels are pristine and feature the correct diamond cut centre sections, a feature very often lost upon a compromised refurbishment. Michelin 185/60 HR14 tyres are fitted all round with plenty of tread and the spare wheel remains shod in the factory Michelin MXV tyre. Dual circuit hydraulic vacuum servo assisted brakes incorporates front vented discs with floating callipers and rear drums to match the performance dynamics perfectly.

HISTORY FILE
Registered on the 27th March 1987 by Peugeot Main Dealer, Poplar Garages of Billingshurst, this remarkable example was purchased new by Mr and Mrs Cockram. Registered in Mrs Cockram’s name, the car has remained in her ownership ever since with the V5 displaying zero former keepers. The colossal history file is simply incredible and thorough perusal of the massive history folder would consume hours! The original new car sales invoice is made out to Mrs Cockram and confirms £7,730.59 as the purchase price and is accompanied by welcome letters from the supplying dealer, Poplar Garages. All paperwork is neatly filed in chronological order and contains service and maintenance invoices dating back to when the car was new in 1987. The blue Peugeot A5 wallet containing all handbooks, guides and dealership point of sale literature is accompanied by the original service booklet fully stamped and with comprehensive hand written note recording in minute detail all work undertaken throughout the car’s lifetime. A documented service was carried out in April 2022 at 84,207 miles and the most recent cambelt change was done at 82,106 miles. The fanatical owners are Peugeot Sport Club members and viewed themselves effectively as custodians of the car and responsible for its preservation in every respect, even down to retaining original dealership paper floor mats, spare keys with fobs and Peugeot bulb kit, in addition to the huge vehicle history file. An unmissable opportunity to acquire a Peugeot 205 GTi that has been used, enjoyed, cared for and preserved exactly as it should be, this is a very special car.
