A delivery mileage Ford Focus RS Red Edition with one owner from new.
The Ford Focus RS hit instant iconic status ever since its first incarnation in the form of the Mk1 released in 2002, and the hype has never wavered throughout Mk2 and Mk3 production whereby demand has often far outstripped supply, especially for the limited-edition models. Warley at Brentwood in Essex, the then home of The Ford Motor Company UK, announced that production of the RS Focus would cease on the 6th April 2018 and to pay a deserved homage there were to be limited edition models to include the RS Edition, RS Red Edition and the RS Heritage Edition. Just 300 examples of the RS Red Edition were produced and finished in Race Red with other distinguishing features such as gloss black roof, mirrors and rear spoiler.
All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring, four selectable drive modes, SYNC3 8” touchscreen DAB audio nav system, Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, Ford Power Starter button, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System, Performance gear-shift light. If being one of only 300 RS Red Edition Focus RS models was not special enough, this example boasts one owner from new and delivery mileage of just 18 miles! Finished in the only colour available Race Red, (Code ZF), the car presents exactly as you would expect from a delivery mileage example in as new condition. The pristine underside is production line fresh with component labels and stickers still attached. The one and only owner had the awareness of how collectable this car is and not only resisted the urge to drive the car but also he the foresight to insist that the supplying dealer not fit the number plates or even remove the chalk ‘PDI’ lettering from the front number plate plinth! Although not fitted, the supplying Ford Dealer number plates are with the car. A perfect example with amazing provenance.
Upon opening the door of this volcanic Focus, you are instantly greeted with extrovert styling including the naked seat frame emblazoned with Recaro lettering, bright blue contrast stitching throughout and brushed aluminium tread plates with RS logo. Climb into the phenomenal Recaro Race moulded seats with huge bolsters and harness holes and you are instantly aware this is a cockpit like no ordinary Focus! The partial leather/Alcantara seat upholstery, (Code AR), is in perfect condition as is the rest of the trim and soft-touch material in a car that has covered just 18 miles. The original carpet mats are present and of course all functions operate correctly including the factory optional and ingenious automatic door edge protectors. The protective cellophane is still on the door sills and accelerator pedal and even the build sticker remains attached to the rear console!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Specially designed for high performance, Ford’s 2.3 litre Ecoboost engine in this Red Edition produces 345bhp and torque from 470Nm, good for a 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds and a 165mph top speed! In addition to this, the RS Red Edition along with the RS Heritage Edition was fitted with a mechanical Quiafe Limited-Slip front Differential to limit torque delivered a wheel that has reduced traction and redistribute torque to the wheel with more traction in order to counteract the stability and acceleration detriments of a wheelspin. The engine bay is as new and just as it left the dealership with even the air filter spotlessly clean! With the Quiafe ATB fitted to the front axle of the all-wheel-drive system and 6-speed manual gearbox, this sure-footed RS is a formidable performance machine.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Factory optional Black forged 19in alloy wheels were a £975 upgrade over the standard RS Red Edition rims and remain in as new condition. Factory Michelin PilotSuperSport 235/35/ZR19 tyres have covered 18 miles and present as such. Huge ventilated front discs are gripped by contrasting grey-finish Brembo callipers, another styling feature of the RS Red Edition.
This outstanding Ford Focus RS Red Edition was registered new on the 27th March 2018 by Trust Ford of Warrington to the first and only owner who purchased the car to form part of a collection of RS Ford’s. Despite the huge demand for the Red Edition, the buyer secured the car due to his large annual spend with the dealer. A strong awareness of the model’s importance meant the car was destined to be a collector’s piece and the no doubt unbearable urge to drive the car has been resisted. Instead, the car was kept under covers in a heated garage while the Fast Ford itch was routinely scratched when he drove his high mileage Ultimate Green Mk2 Focus RS with 5,000 miles!
A new vehicle sales invoice is made out to the owner and confirms the price paid and the factory specified options. The vehicle presentation pack incudes the Ford performance document wallet containing all handbooks including the RS Owner’s Manual Supplement and all point-of-sale literature. Furthermore, both original remote keys are present with the main key still in its Race Red sheath and there is also a press release document with photographs. The car was handed over complete with all transportation stickers and consignment documents which are neatly held in the history folder. One of the most coveted of all modern RS cars untouched in every way.
