EQUIPMENT

EXTERIOR
Finished in the highly desirable Kenny Roberts Racing Yellow, a colour attributed to the legendary racing champion who dominated the world of professional motorcycle racing in the 1970’s and 80’s. The original paintwork with matching side faring is in superb order with the black Yamaha decals unspoilt and fully intact. The detail to this bike is simply superb and just as the maker intended with beautifully polished and preserved components worthy of the show scene. The chromework is generally excellent with only two shallow dings to the front mudguard and slight pitting to the exhaust pipes worthy of mention. The high-tensile steel tubular double-cradle frame is in a superb state with the matching chassis and engine numbers clearly visible for inspection. The large seat lifts to reveal lockable storage with factory stickers and remains in excellent order aside from two miniscule nicks to the covering, barely noticeable. All functions, lights and controls operate perfectly owing to the previous owner’s fastidious nature and desire to ride the bike recreationally. A very special example of Yamaha’s iconic RD Series.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 2-stroke torque induction engine has a 247cc displacement and produces 32bhp at 8000rpm. Featuring many advanced features at the time such as Yamahas Autolube system varying the delivery of pressurised oil linked to the throttle and precise ignition timing by utilising transistorised capacitor discharge ignition CDI. Owing to regular maintenance and riding enjoyment in dry conditions, this example kicks into life effortlessly and performs wonderfully. The 6-speed transmission has perfectly selected ratios and a multi-plate clutch running in oil for feather light changes.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This RD250 remains fitted with the stylish cast-alloy wheels with black detailing. These
un-refurbished rims are in fantastic undamaged condition with only mild patina visible to close scrutiny. Quality Dunlop K82 3.00-18 front and 3.50-18 rear tyres retain excellent tread. Hydraulic 267mm disc brakes front and rear with single piston callipers stop effectively and safely.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 19th July 1979 at Yamaha Main Agent JP Motorcycle Generation of Brownhills, this UK example has remained in the care of true enthusiasts throughout. The previous keeper kept the bike as part of a vast and almost overwhelming collection of mainly 1970’s Japanese bikes and mopeds, and having covered just 10,714 miles, this incredible bike has been preserved in amazing condition and exactly as Yamaha intended.
