SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

An outstanding Mk1 Volkswagen Golf GTi Convertible with only 23,605 miles.

EQUIPMENT
Fast folding convertible top with five-layer structure, roll-over bar, laminated windscreen, bumpers with chrome trim, spoiler under the front bumper, twin halogen headlamps, waistline trim with chrome inserts, black wheel-arch extensions, heated glass rear window, metallic paint, PVC underbody protection, red trim around grille, air blade driver’s windscreen wiper, alloy sport wheels, front sports seats, multi-function digital computer, rev counter, digital clock, sports steering wheel, fuel economy gauge. Dealer accessories; Panasonic 873 stereo cassette.

EXTERIOR
It is difficult to portray just how special this mind-blowing Golf Mk1 GTi Convertible is, finished in factory original Montego Black, (Code LY9V). An unrestored example that simply gleams with a deep polished shine, all original panels are free from damage and arrow straight with perfect shut lines. Nothing other than a few carefully touched in frontal stone chips and light scratches detract from the incredible condition of this example which remains fitted with the supplying Volkswagen dealer number plates. The original hood is perfect in both condition and operation as is the rear tonneau which has all loops and clips fully intact. All trim sections, glass, lights, rubbers and badges are superb including the iconic GTi badged red-trimmed grille showing some marks. The bright beading to the windscreen rubber is tarnished. A highly collectable example of this legendary Golf.

INTERIOR
A truly spectacular interior with the sports seats finished in the grey vinyl/white strobe, (Code 01), with the matching unmarked cloth covered door and side panels. The bolsters remain perfectly shaped and unworn commensurate with the incredibly low mileage and the carpets are in excellent order. Further indicators of the low mileage are the iconic unworn golf ball gear knob and steering wheel retaining its textured finish. The boot area is immaculate and still has the factory build label affixed to the left side of the rear crossmember which matches the sticker in the service booklet. All functions and controls feel tight and sturdy and operate perfectly, although the LCD computer display whilst fully operational has leaked slightly to the edges. An amazing interior and virtually nothing to displease even the most ardent of perfectionists.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1781cc engine in this sporting GTi model produces a 112bhp and 153Nm of Torque and drives perfectly with a distinctive exhaust note which is truly addictive. A top speed of 108mph and 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds are quoted. A very clean engine bay with original plates, stickers, slam panel stamping, factory wax and under-bonnet label will please exhibitors and sticklers for originality. The 5-speed sports gearbox is positive, sturdy and is a joy to use.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original alloy sport wheels are unrestored items and display clearly defined part number stampings and emblems, the definition of which is always lost on refurbishment. Some aged related markings and outer rim scratches are visible but have been left untreated in order to retain originality. Matching replacement premium brand Continental ContiEcoContact3 175/70 R13 tyres have masses of tread. Dual-circuit braking system with servo assistance and ventilated discs offer steady straight line stopping power requiring a firm foot compared to modern equivalents.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on the 21st June 1985 by Volkswagen Main Dealer, Walton Lodge Garage Ltd in Walton-on-Thames, the car has covered an incredibly low 23,605 miles from new with just four owners, all of whom are traceable. First owner, Miss Tarabzouni, received the car as a gift and owned it until 1993. A sales invoice in the history file dated July 1993 refers to when the car was purchased from a dealership by Mr and Mrs Bryan who paid £5,500 including part exchange of their newer Ford Sierra. Mr and Mrs Bryan owned the car for 24 years until in 2017 the difficult decision to sell was made. A letter in the history file in 2017 from Mr and Mrs Bryan to the new owner, a collector, confirms their history with the car and in their words, “The car is 100% genuine and must be one of the lowest mileage examples in existence”. The car has formed part of one further incredible collection since and is now available to the next custodian to continue its remarkable preservation and enjoyment.

The original V.A.G Service document holder contains all the owner’s manuals, instructions pamphlets and dealer literature as well as the service booklet. The service history file is neatly presented with main dealer and specialist invoices as well as MOT certificates. Completing the history file is two sets of keys and copy V5 documents recording full ownership history. This GTi thoroughly excels in every conceivable way.
