A fabulous Ford Puma 1.7 with an amazing 7,799 miles and 13 service stamps.

EQUIPMENT
Front air dam, front aerodynamic spoiler, colour coded door mirrors, headlamp system with three projector lamps, tinted glass, rear quarter light Puma emblems, variable ratio power assisted steering, traction control, driver airbag, pyrotechnic front seat belt tensioners, aluminium finish interior, leather sports steering wheel. Factory options; Air conditioning, metallic paint, Luxury Pack 6006 features; Electrically operated and heated door mirrors, Quickclear heated windscreen, Ford 6006E RDS stereo system with 6CD changer and ‘Keycode’ anti-theft locking. Dealer options; Tailored Puma premium velour carpet mats.

EXTERIOR
This late 2002 model is finished in the factory optional launch colour of Moondust Silver, (Code 61), the same colour as the car used in the iconic and award-winning Steve McQueen Bullitt recreation TV advert. The stunning Ford ‘New Edge’ lines of the Puma seem to defy their age and the factory original paintwork boasts a stunning bright polished shine and uniform finish with a condition commensurate with the exceptionally low 7,799 miles. The often-troublesome rear arches and sills are as new and the underside is very clean and still displays factory labels and PDI dabs, long lost on most examples. A miniscule scratch to the nearside door mirror and one to the bumper are virtually indetectable and the only noteworthy imperfections. The original supplying dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder remain fitted. All trim sections and badges are excellent and the styled lighting units are crystal clear. Virtually impossible to find in such an incredible preserved condition.

INTERIOR
The sporty feel of the Ford Puma certainly continues once inside the snug cockpit which somehow manages to offer space and comfort for front seat occupants whilst not losing the sports car sensation. The original Chrome/Twill trim, (Code OC), is perfect in every respect with the seats having no markings or signs of wear. The super-low mileage credentials are clear to see in the preserved carpets protected from new with tailored Puma carpet mats and the steering wheel leather is as new. The controls and switchgear are factory fresh and all functions operate perfectly, including the optional air conditioning and Ford 6006E RDS stereo system with 6CD changer. The immaculate luggage area displays factory marker scribes to the boot floor and both the parcel shelf and carpet are spotless. An interior condition commensurate with a 2002 showroom car complete with the new Ford smell!

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Co-developed with Yamaha, the Puma’s 1.7-litre engine was the first Ford to use variable camshaft timing, (VCT). The power delivery is incredibly flexible and energetic with 85 per cent of peak torque being available at just 1500rpm. The air induction system is tuned for a raspier sound and combined with a free revving engine this power plant is immensely rewarding. Exceptionally well maintained from new despite the low mileage covered, this engine is eager to please, and housed in a pristine engine compartment displaying factory plates, stickers, original panel stampings and PDI markings. The standard IB5 close-ratio sports gearbox is precise, short and impeccably weighted working in perfect harmony with the engine. A true driver’s car.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory fitted and unrestored nine-spoke alloy wheels are in perfect condition and display the correct factory finish as opposed to the vast majority of refurbished items. All four tyres are premium brand Pirelli 195/50 R15 with masses of tread. Servo assisted anti-lock brakes with vented front discs and Electronic Brake Force Distribution provide safe stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Supplied by Ford Main Dealers, Bristol Street of Newcastle Under Lyme, on the 31st June 2002, this incredible example has covered just 7,799 miles from new and remains totally factory original. The final Puma’s were produced in July 2002 making this a very late example. First owner, Mrs Hill, owned the car for 17 years and since then the car has formed part of two exclusive collections of modern classic cars. A common trend with super-low mileage cars is for servicing to fall behind, however this example being an exception has a comprehensive service history including the original service booklet with 13 stamped entries. The mileage is fully verified and a cambelt and water pump change was carried out at 7,022 miles. The blue Ford document wallet inside the Bristol Street Ford folder contains the owner’s manual, radio guides, security codes and point of sale literature. There are two original Ford keys with dealer fob. Completing the history file is a folder containing invoices and every single annual tax disc from the very first to the very last issued in 2014 when they were discontinued!

Upon launch in 1997, the Puma boldly hit the market with huge fanfare and instantly won Top Gear Car of the Year 1997 and advertising industry awards for the Steve McQueen television adverts. To drive this low mileage and well-maintained example, it is clear to see why the Puma was an instant hit from Ford and has now become highly collectable.
