A multiple award winning factory original Ford Escort RS1600i with two owners.

EQUIPMENT

Factory Options; Tinted glass, tilt/sliding sunroof. Dealer Accessories; Polycoat, Britax, Identicar, Ford rubber mats.

EXTERIOR
This show winning RS1600i is finished in stunning Sun Burst Red, (Code P 1), and has a perfect uniform shine across every factory fitted and date stamped panel. The paint has the desired orange peel, only found on first paint Fords and all decals are original fitment. A small number of touched in chips are barely noticeable. Polyglycoat was applied when new by the supplying Ford dealer as stipulated by the long-term first fastidious owner and the care bestowed on this cars appearance has never waned. Testament of this is evidenced with numerous concours wins and trophies awarded on the competitive RS show circuit. The underside has the Britax seal application as applied when new with corresponding certificate still preserving the factory components. The optional tinted glass has Identicar number plate etching carried out by the supplying dealer. A proven car found in factory perfect condition in all respects.

INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1600i is astonishing. Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour, (Code TC), the special RS seats and deep side bolsters have retained perfect structural integrity and the matching door cards and perforated headlining are in excellent condition. The deep grey carpets are spotless and free from undue wear and are protected by four genuine Ford waffle rubber floor mats, which in turn are wrapped in preparation for concours. The dashboard has no cracks and all interior equipment is functional including the fuel thrust cut-off warning lights. The boot area is spotlessly clean as is the immaculate rear parcel shelf and the colour code sticker is attached to the back panel. Incredibly the TC Key Number is still inscribed on the boot floor! Amazing.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords transverse mounted 1600 OHC Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit producing 115 BHP. Mated to the Bosch K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut-off, special alloy cylinder head and camshaft the car has a top speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8.7 seconds. The engine bay is is immaculate in presentation and correct in every way. The twin coil set-up and finned cast alloy rocker cover are proudly on display and the engine stickers are original. The gear changes are light and a joy to use with the unique 0.83 fifth gear ratio fitted only to the RS1600i.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Sensational cast alloy wheels have never been refurbished with a few minor marks and are still shod with the manufacturer Dunlop SP Sport Super D4 195/50 VR15 tyres including the spare. Massive tread and not cracked but replacement is advised due to age. The brakes have been upgraded under warranty by Ford in November 1983 and fascinating written correspondence between Ford and the owner exists tracking this upgrade.

HISTORY FILE
Prepare to be amazed. Introduced in September 1981, this stunning example was built in April 1983 and is one of 2,600 UK examples and just one of 560 in Sunburst Red. (Source: RS Owners Club). Registered new on the 11th May 1983 by Ford Rallye Sport Dealer, Bristol Street Motors (Cheltenham) Ltd, to Mr S Warwick. The new vehicle invoice totals £8259.28 and begins what can only be described as a colossal journey documenting every mile of this cars pampered life. Mr Warwick quite literally keeps a personal journal of every experience from visiting the car when it arrived at the dealer covered in wax to his correspondence with Ford where they eventually agree to upgrade the brakes and fit the Series X Sports Handling Kit at the Ford Boreham factory free under warranty. He was sworn to secrecy as every RS1600i customer would demand the upgrade! All Ford invoices are neatly filed and the list of jobs demanded by Mr Warwick on every visit highlight his perfection seeking nature. Mr Warwick also had tyres replaced by Dunlop. The car remained in his protective care until December 2015 when it was sold to RS enthusiast, Mr Wilcock, who entered the RS Concours circuit and immediately starting winning trophies including Novice Gold Cup Winner at RSOC National Day in 2017 amongst many all catalogued in the Concours Competition Logbook.

This car will absolutely satisfy the most demanding Ford collector wanting one of the best, unrestored, factory original examples with an unrepeatable history.
