Full Description

An indulgent Mercedes-Benz W124 E220 Cabriolet with just two owners and full history.

All steel monocoque body, torsionally resistant safety cell, impact-absorbing front and rear sections, electro-hydraulic roof operation, roll over protection, wind deflector, tinted safety glass, laminated windscreen, heated twin washer nozzles, panoramic windscreen wiper, Infra-red remote locking, pneumatic headlamp range adjust, parking lights, electric seatbelt feeders, remote rear headrest lowering, driver and front passenger airbags, fine wood veneer cappings, electrically adjustable heated door mirrors. Factory options; Electric driver’s memory seat, electric front passenger seat, electric height adjust on front seat headrests, front seat heaters, outside temperature indicator, Speedtronic cruise control, anti-theft system, luxury automatic climate control, front central armrest, headlamp wash, metallic paint.

The sleek angular lines of the W124 Mercedes-Benz cabriolet are instantly recognisable and this E220 Cabriolet example is a fantastic testament to this design classic. Finished in original and optional Ruby Metallic (code 572) the polished paint finish is very pleasing with only small paint blemishes noticeable, namely stone chips and a tiny section of lacquer peel to the bonnet. There is a tiny section of paint lift to the nearside rear arch and Mercedes main dealer number plates remain fitted. The electro-hydraulic roof operation is seamless and the hood remains watertight with only minor lifting to the fabric around the rear screen. A redundant small phone aerial remains fitted to the offside rear wing. Ever pioneering, Mercedes eliminated the traditional roll over bar in favour of automatic rollover protection which also double as electrically operated rear head restraints. An excellent example synonymous with exceptional Mercedes-Benz build quality.

Luxury and opulence in abundance, a cabin space that was, and in many ways still is, hugely ahead of its time. Features such as electrically adjustable head restraint height to compliment the electric front seats as well as the automatic seat belt feeders hint towards the ‘over engineering’ of the Mercedes-Benz W124. The contoured seats trimmed in original Mushroom Leather (code 265) are ergonomically designed for optimum comfort with lateral support and seat-suspension designed to harmonise with the vehicles actual suspension. The upholstery with matching doors cards is clean and displays general age related wear but no holes or rips. The leather to the steering wheel is now worn and the original Blaupunkt Canberra RCM85 stereo operates well but the digital display is grainy. Outstanding Mercedes Benz craftsmanship.

Fitted with the Mercedes four cylinder 16v unit of 2199cc displacement, the engine produces 150bhp at 5500rpm and 210Nm of torque at 4000rpm. A top speed of 128mph and 0-62 in 12.0 seconds is achieved effortlessly in this exceptionally well maintained example. The four speed automatic transmission operates exactly as the manufacturer intended with smooth changes and positive kick down. Sheer motoring indulgence.

The original unrestored eight-hole alloy wheels are well presented with only light delamination and scratches to the outer rims. Matching 195/65 R15 tyres have good tread remaining. The boot area houses spare wheel alongside the original toolkit roll, jack, warning triangle and Mercedes first aid kit. Dual-circuit servo braking system with vacuum booster and anti-lock assistance (ABS) offers excellent straight line stopping power.

Supplied new on 3rd November 1995 by Mercedes Benz main agents Hills of Shrewsbury, this UK example has been exceptionally well maintained with just two owners from new, the second keeper purchasing from Drayton Mercedes Benz at just two years old. A vehicle print out outlines a list price new of £40,036.99 including an incredible factory options spend of £5,377.42! The original service booklet displays 18 stamped entries mostly Mercedes Benz main agents or recognised specialists, the most recent being in May 2015. A further folder of virtually every MOT certificate remains with the history file along with two remote keys with Mercedes fobs.

Completing the wonderful history file is the Mercedes-Benz document wallet containing all handbooks, manuals and radio guides as well as other dealership literature presented upon new car handover. The ultimate in four seat open top elegance.
