Just 1,430 limited edition MGF Trophy 160 cars were produced for the worldwide market and this example is one of the 804 UK examples. Finished in Trophy Blue, (Code JFV), one of four colours available, the other options being Trophy Yellow, Anthracite and Solar Red. The recently ceramic coated paint finish is virtually perfect having covered just 11,888 miles with strict garage storage by the two owners from new. The original black woven acrylic fabric hood and rear screen is in exceptional condition with just a couple of very faint scuff marks. All panels and shut lines are straight and even the boot lid is flush rather than so often raised due to the incorrect fitting of the tonneau cover. The detailed underside will please those wanting to display on the show circuit. All trim is unmarked and the Trophy 160 rear badge is proudly displayed. This example will satisfy the most fastidious fanatic and is without doubt one of the best surviving examples anywhere in the world.
The sports seats with unique cloth centre panels, (Code WRA), are standard fitment on this limited edition MGF and in a condition that is commensurate with the incredibly low 11,888 miles covered. The vibrant exterior is mirrored inside the cabin with perfect centre console and door casing inserts in body colour finish. The interior is simply outstanding and displays all the indicators of such a low mileage car including the immaculate Trophy Blue/Black leather steering wheel. The cut pile carpets have tailored MG velour mats covering them. Both front and rear luggage areas are spotless with the front housing the optional spare wheel uniquely painted orange for this model which remains shod in the original unused Goodyear tyre. Even the head lamp units still wear the fragile Valeo part stickers! MG museum quality in all respects.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The desirable four-cylinder 1796cc VVC, (Variable Valve Control) engine produces 160bhp enabling a top speed of 137mph and 0-60 in just 6.9 seconds, this is a fast car! The light weight body, race-bred chassis, mid-mounted engine and rear wheel drive configuration possesses all the correct sports car credentials to ensure optimum driver delight. The uprated Hydragas suspension is set to the manufacturers ride height of 348mm, 20mm lower than standard. The short throw sports ratio five speed gearbox completes the package.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The factory fitted 16inch Forged Spun Ultra alloy wheels are in superb order with no kerb damage and only light deterioration to the MG centre cap decals. Matching branded tyres of size 195/45 R16 tyres up front and 215/40 R16 at the rear are soft compound designed for use with sports cars and retain masses of tread. Standard for the Trophy 160 are MG/AP Racing ventilated front discs and solid rear discs offering positive straight-line stopping power.
Supplied new by MG Main Dealers, Osborne Garages Ltd of Colchester, this UK MGF Trophy 160 SE was purchased new by a Mr Decker who used the car for just two years before recognising its uniqueness and rarity and so deciding to place the car into dry storage. In 2017 the car was purchased from the original owner by a renowned MG Specialist where it became the owners showroom display piece for two years, at which point the second and only other keeper, Mr Fewtrell, purchased the car in 2019 to add to his fastidiously kept collection of classic cars and motorcycles. Whilst boasting collectors’ quality credentials of low owners and super-low mileage, this limited edition MGF Trophy 160 SE is ready to use and enjoy should the next owner wish as the coolant pipes have undergone the desirable stainless-steel upgrade and the cambelt, water pump and heavy-duty head gasket upgrade were carried out in August 2019.
All handbooks, guides and the service book are in the MG leather folder and two sets of keys and remotes remain along with a neat file of invoices and MOT certificates. Cherished private ‘9MGF’ registration number is available by separate negotiation to what must be one of the best surviving examples made available for a lucky new custonian.
