SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A charming unrestored Ford Escort Mk2 1100L with just 11,964 miles from new.

EQUIPMENT
Square semi-sealed beam headlamps, safety glass all round, anti-burst locks, bright door frame and window mouldings, bright badging and door handles, bright driver’s door mirror, bodyside moulding, bright bumpers, laminated windscreen, reclining front seats, two-spoke soft feel steering wheel, choke control, safety styled door handles and window winders, aluminium ribbed scuff plates, heated rear window, hazard warning flashers, padded sun visors, two-speed heater and demister, inertia reel front seat belts, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents.  Dealer fit options; passenger door mirror.

EXTERIOR
This fabulously original Mk2 1100L exhibits masses of modest charm from a far simpler bygone motoring era.  Finished in Ford Cordoba Beige, (Code P0), the original paintwork is simply remarkable with a bright polished shine and uniform finish.  All panels are straight and display uniform gaps.  There is absolutely no corrosion to the body and the underside is structurally perfect with evidence of factory underseal, commensurate with an 11,964 mile garaged example.  Only very minor touched in markings can be seen upon close scrutiny helping to confirm the unrestored nature of this honest example.  All bright trim sections and badging is fully intact and remains in exceptional order aside from a tiny light ding to the front bumper.  The dealership reflective number plates and supplying Ford dealer rear screen sticker have been preserved with the car and further cement the cars wonderful originality.  A truly cossetted example of this once unassuming family Ford, delightfully nostalgic and just as the manufacturer intended.

INTERIOR
The interior of this charming 1100L is utterly exceptional in every respect.  The original Chocolate/White Houndstooth upholstery, (Code P1), is spotless and has been preserved impeccably with no wear to the coverings.  The matching loop pile carpeting and vinyl door cards are equally pristine and the headlining is perfect.  The fully intact dashboard displays no cracks whatsoever and houses fully functional switchgear, controls and gauges.  Even the factory tags on the seatbelts, often lost, remain intact!  The soft feel steering wheel feels as new with the veins still prominent.  The smell of the interior takes you back to the 1980’s and awakens long forgotten memories!  Often used too liberally, the term ‘time warp’ is unquestionably justified and the incredibly low mileage is thoroughly reflective in the interior presentation.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Refreshingly simple, this model is fitted with the 1100 Standard engine displacing 1098cc, a power output of 51bhp at 6000rpm allows a top speed of 83mph and 0-60 in 18.5 seconds.  This perhaps pedestrian performance is instantly forgotten once behind the wheel where the nostalgic driving experience and fantastic driving manner are a real delight.  The four speed all synchromesh gearbox is light, exact and effortless.  Impeccably maintained and wonderfully simplistic, this example is mechanically superb.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Standard 13” silver painted sports wheels as fitted to the ‘L’ are in remarkable pristine order.  Five 155/80 R13 tyres have masses of tread remaining and the spare is factory standard.  Hydraulic dual line brakes incorporating front discs and rear drums bring the car up in a straight line to offer excellent stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 18th January 1980 by Ford Main Dealer Godfrey Davis (London) Ltd, this stunning Escort has had just two former keepers from new.  An original new car sales invoice made out to first owner Mr J Mellor reveals an on the road purchase price of £3,348.98 including £15 for the optional extra passenger door mirror!  Upon his passing in 1989 ownership went to his wife Isabel Mellor who cherished the car until 2014, whereupon it was inherited by her nephew.  The amazing history file includes a first service invoice at the supplying dealership when the car had covered just 259 miles.  Furthermore, a huge collection of service invoices date back to the 1980’s with the most recent full service invoice dated June 2014 with less than 25 miles covered since!  Incredibly the same garage maintained the car for many years with nineteen invoices from them from 1988 to 2008!  This complete service history along with many supporting MOT certificates firmly validate the astonishingly low mileage of just 11,964 miles.  The original Godfrey Davis A5 plastic wallet containing the handbooks and operating guides completes the history file along with two sets of keys.

Altogether an incredible history file to match an equally special car having remained within the same family from new.  This unmolested, rare surviving and impeccably maintained example with a fully traceable history represents a not to be missed opportunity for the next lucky and discerning keeper.
