A remarkable Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 2 with an incredible 22,703 miles.

Body coloured bumpers with black insert, body coloured wheel arch extensions, 88 spec tailgate spoiler, halogen headlamps, front driving lamps, cooling vents in bonnet, central door locking, remote body coloured door mirrors, heated rear window, dual-tone horn, tailgate wash/wipe, tinted glass, quartz digital clock, aerial incorporated in rear windscreen, Recaro front reclining seats, 60/40 split rear back rest, soft feel sports steering wheel, tilt/slide glass sunroof, tachometer, electrically operated front windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, Ford Self-Seek Stereo with power amplifier.

This simply impeccable example is finished in stunning original Radiant Red (code P9).  The original factory finish truly lives up to its ‘Radiant’ name with a deep glossy and vibrant shine, commensurate with the cars astonishingly low miles and pampered keeping.  Needless to say the factory panels are pin straight with uniform gaps and all trim sections and RS decals are as new.  Receipts in the history file reveal a programme of underside detailing in 2003 costing in excess of £6,000 which remains to the day absolutely spotless due to fastidious Carcoon storage.  The previous owner replaced the desiccant every couple of months to prevent moisture.  Guaranteed to set the pulse racing among aficionados, this RS Turbo retains all the manufacturers’ originality and unmolested appeal.  A pristinely detailed and completely standard engine compartment displays all the factory stickers and a correct Motorcraft battery and headlamp protectors are still fitted revealing the care this remarkable example has enjoyed.  Near impossible to find such a special RS Turbo, this example is a worthy show piece for the perfectionist.

This original Escort RS Turbo has a perfect and stylish interior which remains exactly how the manufacturer intended.  The fully adjustable supportive Recaro seats show no wear to the Zolda fabric (Code LW) with the ever popular Shadow grey, red and blue pattern.  Matching door cards are pristine with only minor markings to the driver’s door pull, a common occurrence on these cars.  The pristine carpets have been beautifully preserved and have retained complete fullness to the pile.  All switches, knobs and dials function correctly and the fully operational Ford Self-Seek stereo radio/cassette with separate power amplifier remains fitted with original speakers.  The boot area is spotless with original build stickers and markings intact.  A truly magnificent example of this legendary fast Ford.

The 1.6 OHC (CVH) fuel injected engine with a Garrett AiResearch T3 turbo charger and intercooler is completely factory standard making this vehicle a rare example that is now the exception.  Producing 132bhp in such a lightweight car, the 0-60 dash is dealt with in 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 128mph is achieved.  A factory original exhaust system is fitted.  Having only covered a mere 22,703 miles, the 5-speed manual Ford BC box with standard 220mm clutch is light, precise and a joy to use.

The correct light alloy 6X15 RS wheels remain undamaged and pristine with the Ford logo and part numbers raised and visible.  Five matching quality 195/50 R15 Goodyear Eagle tyres have masses of tread remaining with the spare item unused and factory original.  This 1980’s ‘Hot Hatch’ icon stops as well as it goes with the ABS braking system designed in conjunction with Lucus Girling working perfectly.

Registered new on 17th August 1989 by Ford Main Dealer Charles King Motors Ltd of Bedford, this tremendous example has benefitted from fastidious enthusiast ownership since new enabling it to remain preserved in fantastic show condition.  Professional specialist invoices in the huge history file illustrate an immense program of underside and engine bay detailing commissioned by previous keeper Ms Claire Stephens throughout 2003 totalling an astonishing £6,138.96!  Countless large photographs beautifully presented in the folder document the work carried out.

The Ford plastic wallet contains the original stamped service book along with every handbook, radio guide and dealership literature from point of sale.  The service book displays a number of stamped entries even for a vehicle of such minimal use, including the most recent entry in April 2014 at 22,644 miles using genuine parts from Fordparts UK.  Also at this time the timing belt, tensioner and water pump were replaced to offer reassurance. Furthermore, the history file contains MOT certificates to fully support the incredible low mileage along with many invoices and receipts.  Two sets of keys including the original working torch key are present!

This vehicle is certain to appeal to a collector of modern classics wanting one of the best, most original lowest mileage examples in existence.  The ultimate Ford fans desire.
