SORRY NOW SOLD – SIMILAR WANTED

A stunning UK VW Karmann Beetle 1500 Cabriolet with just one former keeper.

EQUIPMENT
Chrome window trim, chrome bumpers, chrome headlamp rings, bright belt line and bonnet strip, ashtrays front and rear, chrome door handles and escutcheons, running boards, Karmann badges, hood cover, hazard lights, interior light, headlight flasher, fresh air vents, sill vents, glove box, driver and passenger door pocket, grab handle, twin sunvisors, MW/LW radio.  Optional extras; Chrome full wheel covers.

EXTERIOR
The unmodified and original nature of this delightful UK RHD Karmann Beetle poses as a huge testament to the cherished ownership this example has enjoyed.  Finished in Volkswagen Pastel White (code L90D) the gleaming paintwork boasts a bright pure shine and is guaranteed to please onlookers.  The vehicle is structurally excellent with no evidence of weld repairs, and the beautifully fitting panels are straight and free from corrosion or damage.  All chrome bumpers and trim pieces are pristine and aid the appeal of this car immensely.  A quality recent replacement hood is in perfect order and the matching hood cover with white piping completes the outfit.  A motoring icon through and through with added open top fun in abundance.

INTERIOR
The black leatherette interior having had a retrim is in excellent order with surprising comfort on offer!  The factory fitted thin steering wheel with Wolfsburg crest and horn bar is remarkably well preserved.  All matching door cards and black rubber floor mats are intact but are the original 44 year old items so do show signs of wear.  The sunvisors have discoloured over time.  Original features such as the dashboard ashtray with gear shift diagram and the working factory fitted radio are a delight to see.  A humble, pleasant and functional classic interior, hugely reminiscent of a simpler motoring era.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original air-cooled rear mounted engine is housed in a beautifully clean engine bay with an emphasis on originality and meticulous maintenance clearly evident.  A power output of 53bhp and 78.1ib.ft of torque from its 1493cc displacement delivers a top speed of 78mph and 32mpg, whilst the unmistakable VW Beetle engine note is delightfully pronounced but completely unobtrusive.  The fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox is positive, light and smooth having benefitted from a brand new clutch in October 2014.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original pressed steel wheels are dressed in brilliant optional chrome full wheel covers and shod in matching quality 165/80 R15 tyres with excellent tread remaining.  Only very superficial and minor age related markings are evident upon close inspection.  Dual circuit drum brakes front and rear operate freely, offering modest stopping power when compared to modern vehicles, exactly as they were made!

HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 20th August 1970 this example was supplied by Volkswagen Main Dealer Tom England and Sons Ltd of Liverpool to original owner Mr Henry Barton.  The original sales invoice details a purchase price of £1,025.83 including optional extra wheel trims at £5.00 and road tax at £20.83.  A supplying dealer tax disc holder remains in the screen and is a delightfully original touch.  Incredibly Mr Barton remained the vehicles only owner throughout its lifetime, initially using the car as his everyday vehicle and in later years just for family holidays and weekend trips.  Upon his passing this year the vehicle was left to his daughter Victoria Barton-Jones, none of this however before his pride and joy was used as transport for her wedding!  Perhaps even more amazing is the registration to Victoria took place on 20th August 2014, exactly 44 years to the day after it was first registered!

The history file further consists of the original VW Service Record displaying many stamps, warranty card and vehicle data cards as well as a huge collection of previous MOT’s, a stack of old tax discs and a collection of receipts and invoices.  Having covered a fully verified 86,432 miles from new, this cherished example has wanted for nothing and is ready to become the next lucky owner’s new pride and joy.
