EXTERIOR
This wonderfully nostalgic Vauxhall Cavalier Mk3, a once common sight on UK roads and instantly familiar to many, is now seldom seen and this example remains in beautiful original condition having been cherished by the same keeper from new to 2017! Finished in factory original Glacier White, (Code 10L), the paintwork boasts a bright pure white shine with only tiny markings visible. All factory panels are damage and ding free and the superb underside is free from excess applied underseal to allow easy structural inspection. The Vauxhall Security registration etched glass, GM Carello headlights, badges and trim sections are virtually as new and supplying Vauxhall dealer number plates and rear sticker remain fitted. The condition of this unmolested and cherished Cavalier is entirely commensurate with the remarkably low 36,355 miles covered.
INTERIOR
A spotlessly clean, functional and period Vauxhall interior is sure to delight fans of the Griffin badged cars! The original Matlock Velour trim, (Code 81I), remains unworn with absolutely no damage whatsoever. The matching colour keyed door cards and headlining are pristine, and the fleece carpets are beautifully preserved. All functions and controls operate perfectly and the dashboard and associated switchgear are as new. Prominent natural veins to the steering wheel are an obvious trait of such a low mileage example. The immaculate boot floor has the factory insulating panels and the original polystyrene moulding holds the jack and wheel brace. The factory fitted Philips Type 670 radio cassette remains fitted and operational. A comfortable modern classic and just as it left the Vauxhall showroom in 1991.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Cavalier GL features the 1796cc OHC four cylinder engine with automatic choke developing 90bhp at 5400rpm and 148Nm of torque at 2800rpm. This example having covered just 36,355 miles drives perfectly and the quiet engine is a delight. The engine bay is very clean, unaltered and displays original panel stampings, plates and stickers and factory protective wax. The five speed manual transmission is tight and precise.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 14in wheels wear the correct GL specification hubcaps which are in remarkable condition with only tiny scratches visible. The factory fitted Dunlop SP Sport D8M2 195/60 R14 tyres remain fitted to all wheels including the spare. Diagonally split dual circuit brakes with direct-action servo assistance feature 9.3in front discs and 7.9in rear drums to bring the car to a steady and assured halt.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new by Vauxhall Main Dealers Quest Motors of Braintree on the 25th January 1991, this exceptional example has covered just 36,355 miles with one former keeper. Mr John Hand bought the car brand new and owned it for an incredible 26 Years. Upon his passing in July 2017 ownership transferred to his son Paul Hand, who has reluctantly decided to part with his father’s car owing to imminent emigration to Canada. Recent maintenance work includes an oil service, brake service and the original GM rear silencer has just been replaced with a brand new standard stock item.
Both original Vauxhall book packs contains handbooks, radio guide and dealership point of sale literature. This beautifully preserved and unmolested Cavalier is a credit to its long term custodian and offers capable, practical and comfortable retro motoring, a guaranteed hit at shows.
