Full Description

A time warp UK Mk1 Mazda MX5 with just 9,222 miles and one owner from new.

Laminated windscreen, retractable halogen headlamps, bright finish door handles, colour keyed bumpers and outer mirrors, colour keyed mud guards, manual folding black canvas soft top, rear tonneau, side impact beams, Clarion Finish Line 540 stereo, tachometer, leather steering wheel and gearknob gaiter, power steering, bucket seats, interior light, cigar lighter and ashtray, locking glovebox, locking centre storage box.  Factory options; Colour coded hard top with heated screen, electric windows.  Dealer accessories; Mazda MX5 tailored mats.

This exceptional preserved Mazda MX-5 is finished in its factory original coating of Classic Red (colour code SU).  The paintwork boasts a pristine deep gloss shine, commensurate with the super low mileage covered and long term display at Mazda UK.  A tiny ding to the offside front wing and a rub mark from over polishing are barely visible and have been left untouched so as to preserve the cars originality.  The sills are spotlessly clean and the underside condition is truly commensurate with a pampered vehicle of such privileged credentials.  The black canvas hood and tonneau are in perfect order and the rear plastic window is clear with no scratches.  Original supplying Mazda dealer number plates, front bumper sticker and rear screen sticker are still fitted and there is a set of Mazda display plates with the vehicle.  The epitome of a modern classic sports car, preserved to a pinnacle standard.

Trimmed in the standard Black Cloth upholstery this interior is as new and exactly how Mazda intended.  The spotless high backed seats have integral headrests offering maximum comfort and support and show virtually no wear.  The classic sports dashboard houses a cluster of crystal clear instruments that function precisely and retain a new car feel.   The leather trimmed steering wheel with pristine white stitching is as new and factory applied stickers to the windows and door apertures remain.  The original Clarion Finish Line 540 stereo cassette is still fitted.  The iconic MX5 sports car interior ready to take you back to a 1992 Mazda showroom!

To experience a low mileage Mk 1 MX-5 is a true motoring delight.  The lightweight 1.6 litre 16v DOHC engine sits low and behind the front axle to offer a low centre of gravity and centralised weight distribution making handling perfectly balanced and delightfully responsive.  With 113bhp available, a top speed of 115mph and 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds is achieved.  The engine bay is spotless with factory stickers and plates intact, just as it rolled off the production line.  The close ratio short throw gearbox provides light and precise gear changes.  Perfection!

This exceptional Mazda retains its factory fitted 14” Daisy alloy wheels which are shod in quality matching Toyo Proxes 185/60R14 tyres with excellent tread remaining.  The unrestored wheels show only miniscule markings, yet they retain the correct dual finish and prominent factory stampings which are otherwise lost upon refurbishment.  The wheel brace and covered space saver wheel are all present and spotlessly clean.  Ventilated front and solid rear discs install maximum braking confidence.

This astonishing example was registered new by F.C. Green Mazda in Hertford on 13th April 1992 to first owners Mr and Mrs Vowles.  This special order vehicle has had just one owner from new and covered an incredible 9,222 miles having been subject to long term display.  Two vehicle order forms, one for the car and another for the factory hard top illustrate a total price paid of £17,008.21.  Initially displayed in the Mazda showroom and used only for dry leisure outings, this example in recognition of its wonderful preserved condition was sourced by Mazda UK for its 25th Anniversary celebration of the MX5 in 2014.  It was subsequently displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.  The display plaque, Mazda display plates and photographs are included in the history file.

Despite the amazing low miles covered, the history file includes the original Mazda wallet with book packs, service record and dealership point of sale literature.  Furthermore, there are invoices and receipts for service work including a documented cambelt change.  Completing the history file is a Mazda MX5 sales brochure and Mazda Finish Line accessories booklet.  Chosen by Mazda UK as one of the best MX5’s in existence, this unmolested and preserved showpiece is sure to delight the collector wanting to experience the essence of fun Mazda intended when new over 25 years ago!
